Traded Patrick Dangerfield [traded w/ pick 50 to Geelong for 9, 28 and Gore]

Reckon we're best off rolling the dice in the PSD rather than mortgaging 2 years worth of picks to get an out of contract player. Crows had the opportunity to move him to Melbourne for 2 top 5 picks last year and didn't. Can't see them getting anything close to that now.
What a load of baloney. Paddy did not want to move to Melbourne last year, mate. End of story!

Failing this they lose chance to acquire Dangerfield and he likely ends up at Carlton , I would say a very big missed opportunity for Geelong and a smaller missed opportunity for adelaide to acquire pick 15 compo
And you lose a player in Dangerfield.

Luv all the talk of Cats sending trading players back to AFC as part of PD trade.

The same reason the Pd to Demons thing didn't happen. Player didn't want to go there. Same here. Recently re-contracted players are then gonna want to go to AFC.

If it gets to trade, the offer wont be a god father deal. Rd 1 and Rd 2 next year. Its better than the AFL compo offer.

Of course, then GFC drag out their trading negotiations to kill all the time and SC options that AFC have in trade period. Take what you can get early or wait until to end of trade period, maybe get a bit more and have no time to use them…..

Go Catters
Of course, when GFC drag out proceedings and threaten the PSD, Carlton, Melbourne and Essendon will start licking their lips.

You reckon Danger will feel 100% comfortable with that?

I can't fault a guy who has bled for the club for this many years; including being a sole contributor in a lot of games, and is now in a difficult position with a partner wanting to go home, making this decision. Smart business move for his post-football life. Geelong and to a further extent Melbourne will look after him very well. Its not an ideal world for me, but it is the world we live in, so being pragmatic about it softens the blow.

My football heart wishes the likes of Judd, Ablett, Franklin etc ... and now Dangerfield stayed with their clubs, but the brain says to turn down offers that better set you up for life after football would be foolish.
Key difference? Those players helped their clubs to win a premiership, Danger hasn't done that. At all.

It does suck; went through all that with the Ablett saga, and to a lesser extent previously with Leigh Colbert. I had similar thoughts with Ablett; wish he had stayed a one-team player but at the same time, he did amazing at Geelong, helped the Cats win two flags, and now he is setting himself up for life. Can't fault anyone for that at all, especially when clubs are so quick to toss players who no longer fulfill their requirements.

Of course it is linked to a player's ability.

You telling me that if VB left the Crows to Geelong, we would be getting the same compensation as if it were Danger?

It wasnt for lack of trying though? No one can fault Danger for trying his hardest this season; he didn't fall off, and if anything got better as the season went on. Its not like Ablett or Franklin single-handedly won their club a flag; its a team sport, so not sure what your point is.

It would 100% depend on his contract and his age, not his ability... if some bunch of muppets wanted to sign VB for 5 years and 800k, you'd get band 1 compo for him too

Danger for me will follow the Judd model. Pick his club and expect them to work out a fair trade. We did for Judd, I am sure these guys will too. Neither are known to be dickheads at the trade table.
Geelong are pretty good to deal with, if not the best. This deal will get done no problems.

Putting him up on a pedestal of expectation like that will only end in misery. Nothing to be gained from it, except a sense of entitlement that a player owes a club more than he has already given which has been plentiful in his contributions. However he can't, nor did any of the players listed, win a flag on his own.

Our list already proves that Danger is not the difference between us winning a flag and not. We need better team balance, which if the club does the right things we could get with what we receive from Danger leaving.

See the part where I said I lose respect for "any player" who does this?
I respect someone who plays their heart out for the club they play for. Danger did that at the crows.
Danger wants to go to the club that is closest to home, that he reportedly barracked for growing up, and has a bunch of ties to through playing for Geelong Falcons.
I respect that.

You guys still don't get it.
