Our defence was good this year, no doubt. But you have to be great to win a flag. Can our defensive unit still improve? Of course it can.
Hawthorn won the flag last year and then snagged James Frawley. Most of their defenders are over 190cm. Do you think Waite would have destroyed Carlisle like he did Batchelor in the elimination final? No way.

Rance, Carlisle and Grimes would form a great backline to be honest, so would be a good get

It's about looking forward in the future. We know Chaplin is about to hit 30 years old soon and Jake Carlisle just turned 24 years old and is a good defender. I think his acquisition would be a smart move by the club. If he gets suspended by WADA, it won't be for very long because of back-dating anyway

What everyone will assume is what has ruled us out. I will not elaborate and I won't continue posting what I know because as I once said, it's not done until the contract is signed. I'm not interested in putting my head out for attention or hatred. I just wanted to share the excitement. I'm shattered, really wanted Bennell.

The posters on here that are coming in and slagging off TheUndertaker and Tiger71 really need to get a life. Obviously they had good mail up to a certain point and then things changed. I don't recall any of them saying he was a certainty, obviously something has happened in the last couple of days that nobody could predict and that changes everything. Coming on here for "I told you so" is just plain childish and isn't gonna get you any mates on here, we're all gonna be pretty disappointed we didn't pick him up so let's just start talking about potential other targets.
So, really, has anyone heard anything new? Here's a quick summary of what I think is the general consensus on this board:

Yarran: 90%, supposed done deal unless something changes dramatically
Redden: 30%, appears to be going to either WCE or home to South Australia, really only linked with us as lions supposedly want astbury but no source saying we are into him
Dangerfield: 1%, appears certain to go to Geelong
Jaeger O'M: 5%, a couple of reliable posters seem to have picked up whispers we are into him but slowed down since we were in to Bennell, could it be back on now that we have that first pick to play with?
Lobbe: 5%, we need a ruck, but doubt port would trade him, what do we have to offer they would want?
Zach Smith: 15%, see above
Stevie J: 20%, I would've said less a few days ago but now that Bennell is off the table could we make a late play?
C Ellis-Yolmen: 10%, is uncontracted and out of favour but no official sources linking, may be back in play with Bennell off, what would we need to give up?
Crouch: 25%, we seemed to be into him before Bennell but gone quiet since

Anyone agree/disagree with the above or heard anything not mentioned? Just to get the discussion back on track

This is a very strangely worded statement , Why would they not just say Richmond has decided not to offer Harley Bennell a contract

We'd have a defense that could take care of Buudy and Roughead when they were together in 2013 PLUS Grimes could hold onto Gunston PLUS Vlastuin on Rioli
