Swann definitely implicitly opening the possibility of Aish being traded... "we haven't spoken to Collingwood yet".

SEN: Would be a real shame if Aish went into the draft wouldnt it?
Swann: *crickets*

I remember a few weeks ago we were being linked to Sam Grimley from the Hawks. Has that died down or is he not really a good fit? I don't know much about the guy.

Would not be opposed to Grigg but seems unlikely. We simply won't have the trade assets to bring him in with picks needed for our academy selections and the need to trade for Bell. Am a little confused as to why the club is showing reported interest in so many midfielders. Bell and Jansen seem near certainties to join the club and we have been linked with Anderson, Bastinac and now Grigg as well. The club must have identified the need to bring in 3 midfielders for depth reasons and the club is probably sourcing out Anderson, Bastinac and Grigg in an attempt to lure one of them to join Bell and Jansen. Why else would we be linked to them if we already have Bell and Jansen coming? I suppose I can understand the club wanting to bring 3 midfielders in due to the lack of depth this season just gone and the departures of Redden and Aish. We do have Keays coming in through the draft though.

If we are looking to bring in one of Anderson, Bastinac and Grigg in addition to Bell and Jansen what would be everyones preference?

Mine would probably be:

1. Anderson
2. Grigg
3. Bastinac

Anderson is a quality young talent so I would have him at the top. I would rate Grigg as the best player out of the three at this stage and the one most likely to have the biggest impact next year so if it's not Anderson I would go with him over Bastinac.

My favourite bit was "We'll just see how that all plays out......."

Very low for a guy of his supposed standing. Less than we offered Aish, I think.
Like I said, playing 1st ruck consistently in an AFL team clearly means more to him then money. Money isn't everything for everyone. And 375k in the big scheme of things is very, very good money. Maybe not compared to other AFL players but the average wage in Australia is something like 50k-60k.

I'd say a mid twenties pick is more than fair (and good value) for Leuey. Will be very interested to see how this all pans out.

He's been delisted & was truly horrible in the VFL GF, if take the risk - but I am a bit biased. He will cost $0

Ox pulling out the "they didn't lose players to homesickness when they were playing well".

AKA the "Headland O'Bree Fallacy".

There is no certainly that he will play first ruck with Bellchambers and Giles at the Bombers.
Did you see either of them play this year?

Me either, Giles wallowed in the VFL and Bellchambers spent more than half the season injured. The games he did play were very ordinary.

Leuey instantly becomes their no. 1 ruck.

I think it might be the same guy that said Brisbane were "pig headed" for our Aish stance.

Yes that would be the guy. They are VFL reporters. They have no idea about the struggles of an interstate club.

These blokes employed by the VFL are pretty useless.

Essendon are the biggest dumbasses. Why not pay an extra 50k-75k so we end up with at least band 3 compensation. You knew we wanted a early to mid second round pick, Morons. Now they want to trade him for a third round pick. Carlton will pick him up in the PSD and any team wanting a quality ruckmen will pick him up before pick 30 in a weak draft. Bunch of freaking MUPPETS!

Hopefully we can work with the Saints and try to get a deal done for Carlisle. No wonder clubs rate them as the hardest club to deal and that's mainly due to their incompetence.

I'm not suggesting this will happen but is there anything to prevent Essendon increasing their contract offer to Leuey prompting the Lions to ask the League to reassess compo?

It's about 80k ...

I'm not concerned about how much he's earning, I'm concerned about how they value him and what they're offering ... it makes it easier for us to match and for them to lose a decent pick to trade him.

Would rather keep Leuenberger then get Pick 39. Match it. Worst case scenario we stuff over Essendon and get the same really.

With regards to FA getting us Pick 39 for Leuy, the club is left with only one choice...

Match the offer!! Pick 39 doesn't help us sign anyone or enough points to sign our academy kids.

Leuy is a quality ruck, he's just useless up forward

At least if we match the offer we can sign a few delisted FAs like Johnson and Grimley with ease.
