Despite not landing a big name,

Would be very happy with 3 picks in top 20 plus Gore, and Hampton.

May set us back a year or so, but if we draft well, should do very well in a few years time.
Don't know if it is a set back ... we should generate improvement from within. Some of the players on our list should improve a lot.

I expect us to improve next year, but not much of that is based on the trades we do in this period.

So who is going to be our big fish? I would assume we have been working on it for years. If Hampton is the best we get then more questions again.

I guess we're no longer of the belief that 2017 is a realistic target. Trading no one in of note would imply we've got a brand new 3 or 4 year plan.

Disappointing. Feel like now was the time to pull the trigger, considering where our list is at.
Cripes that is pessimistic. Long term pessimism at that.

Only one person has mentioned anything about a possible 'big fish', but I guess it's easy to search for something new to be outraged about, right? ;)

Trade Radio said Gary Buckenara was the head recuiter. Obviously not.
Anyway Gary said it is the worst draft in over a decade.

If your interested Gary Buckenara named his top ten in this years draft the other day when talking to Cal Twomey on trade radio.

Gary Buckenara who has been one of the main recruiters at Hawthorn from 2004-2015 has this as his top 10

1. Jacob Weitering
2. Josh Schache
3. Kieran Collins
4. Aaron Francis
5. Darcy Parrish
6. Jacob Hopper
7. Darcy Tucker
8. Sam Weideman
9. Charlie Curnow
10. Rhys Mathieson

I tend to agree. 2x B+ players is better than one A player.

I have enough faith in our club's drafting ability to be happy with keeping both picks, but on further thought, moving up from pick 13 or 9 where one of those picks would be replaced with 5 either means Noble would still be happy with trading to have pick 13&5 or 9&5, or in his answer to Wallice he was also referring to keeping our second round picks. Although he did also mention having 3 picks in the top 30 (which is a little strange to me since we have pick 32 which is close enough to 30 anyway so if we were to give up a pick 28 and one of our first rounders for pick 5 we still kind of have our 3 picks in around the top 30).

Personally, I think we will still make the 8 next year, and the rise further in 2017.

Give the players a chance to settle in with the new coach.

Hopefully Gore and Hampton give us some speed.

Lever
Knight
Kelly
M Crouch
B Crouch
Atkins
Cameron
EYol

All have the chance to improve massively.

Plus if we do have 3 top 20 draft picks, one or more of them may make an early splash.

2017 to 2018 is still a realistic chance. We have only lost one player, albeit our club champion.

Interesting that he doesn't rate Milera inside the top 10, but I highly agree that Weitering is the better pick over Schache.

Biggest surprise for me is that we haven't (to date) bolstered our key defensive stocks. We are obviously backing in Hartigan, Lever, Shaw and Otten to provide support to Talia. However, another experienced tall back would've been good especially until Lever has put on some beef. We may resolve to do this via the rookie draft or maybe Michael Talia is still in play.

Not many around for trade though

Not necessarily.

If we do 28 + 32 for Sydney's pick 14, then we have 9 - 13 - 14.

13 + 14 = 1,212 + 1,161 = 2,373 points which is equivalent of about pick 3.

So we trade picks 13 and 14 to the Saints for pick 5.

Then we have picks 5 and 9.

Ta-daaaa.

We went from 12th to 6th on natural progession and Cheney.

Our top 9 players are above the AFL average rating. Our 10th to 22 is significantly under the AFL average rating. We are working on the middle of our list.

Hawthorns list is above average almost all the way down to 22.

This is what trading no-one of note really means. We are building the easiest part of the list to improve.

Yeah, doesn't seem to be. Michael Talia goes OK, but I'm not sure he offers more than what we currently have.
If we want Talia, he will likely be delisted after trade period

Sounds good, except we then don't meet Noble's 3 picks in the top 30 plan.
