whatever, the answer is yes.
i don't see why would would risk your career over it.

if you're stupid enough to do that, you probably are better off flipping burgers at Hungry Jacks, because i don't think McDonald's would take you.
so what? Even if that outlandish story is true, what of it? If players take that risk, and are caught, no sympathy.

But don't try and come to me and say the reason you don't want players taking drugs is that they might get caught up in some improbable scam around PEDs. Zero tolerance doesn't work. It never has. For people like you to get all righteous because Jake Carlisle decided to have a few lines of coke in an LA nightclub on his holiday is a joke.

why is it a joke?
i think he's a joke. do you think he's cool?

and yes, the only reason not to take drugs is to avoid getting caught up in an improbable scam
i can see no other reason not to take drugs?

his partaking of drugs doesn't change my opinions of him one iota, one way or another. You know why? Because it's nothing to do with me or you or anyone what he gets up to in his own time.

I'd have no friends if that were the case.

How much of an affect on your life has seeing Jake Carlisle take drugs had?

Now how much effect has it had on your life knowing that many more athletes and people who you know about or have spoken to have done or are currently dabbling in drugs?

Is there a difference between those two answers?

wrong on several counts:

1. if he were still an EFC player, i would be contributing to his wages. i don't want some numbskulls getting paid $700k doing that. if i were a St Kilda supporter, i'd want action taken
2. he publicised his drug taking
3. taking drugs can **** you up. if these players are too stupid to see that, then rules need to be put in place to protect them from themselves.

yes, i understand zero tolerance wont wipe it out. but what do you do? nothing?

yes. as EFC supporters/members, we were basically paying Carlisle's wages.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news bacon buster. You contribute to all players on the team and guess what. Quite a few of them do drugs.

Hope you can sleep tonight with this horrible news.

oh god, don't try and tell me your measly little membership fee is "paying his wage" and that this then gives you the right to control every aspect of a players life

HE didn't publicise drug taking, A Current Affair did, in a grubby grab for ratings. And as I've already stated, if you don't want to publicise drug taking there's a very very easy way to stop that. Stop the testing. Job's done.

Taking drugs can **** you up. Yes. But it can also not **** you up. In fact, the overwhelmingly vast majority of people who take drugs aren't ****ed up, so you're expecting us to make policy based on tiny minorities and you don't see the stupidity of that?

Drugs should be seen in a health context, not a moral or criminal one. Simples.

oh really?

let's all go give them an 8 ball each then. let them go nuts
they're going to do it anyway

let's setup an injecting room while we're at it.
if we can't beat them, may as well join them i guess

snipped waffle
In fact, the overwhelmingly vast majority of people who take drugs aren't stuffed up, so you're expecting us to make policy based on tiny minorities and you don't see the stupidity of that?
snipped waffle

do you have statistics/studies to support that position?

also, i'm talking about this from an AFL/EFC perspective. i don't care what Joe Public does
but i care what an EFC player does.

holy ****, do I have statistics/studies??? Do you?? You're the one who made the assertion that drugs **** people up. But as it happens, yes, of course I do.

AUSTRALIA, a country of sports champions, innovators … and drug takers.

The nation has the inglorious distinction of having the highest proportion of recreational drug users in the world — an embarrassing new low, albeit from getting high.

Our collective craving for a hit is only set to heighten, with the number of drug users continuing to rise steadily.

The frightening statistics in the United Nation’s 2014 World Drug Report confirm Australia as leading the world in the use of party drug ecstasy, third in methamphetamines and fourth in cocaine.

Of greater concern is the addiction to prescribed or black market opioids such as codeine and morphine. We rank second only to the US, with 3.1-3.6 per cent of people between 15 and 65 considered regular users, mostly women.

So yeah, despite being one of the highest drug taking populations in the world the amount of people who actually get "****ed up" by drugs is miniscule. Tiny.

Feel free to provide proof of your assertions now. I won't hold my breath...

Just as an aside, here's what happens when you stop treating drugs as a moral and criminal issue:

I laughed as soon as he asked for "proof". Weren't you just having this convo the other day in another thread?

As an aside, that Portugal article is a great read.

There’s a few parents and junior footy coaches around who might disagree with you there.

It’s not exactly a moral equation for an organisation to be blitzkrieg marketing to kids, whilst simultaneously the very people they use for the marketing (the players) be splashed on the news doing drugs.

Your views are a bit outdated imo. It ain’t a game any more, if it still was I’d hear you better. It’s an entertainment business aimed in no small part at kids.

Personally, I’d prefer EFC players didn’t do drugs, as it’s not exactly conducive to an elite athlete’s lifestyle, and this club has been a failure for far too long. But by the same token, it doesn’t bother me that much. But I get the business point of view.

wtf
do you really need studies to prove that 'drugs can **** you up'. do you agree or disagree with that statement?
do you actually read the posts? or do you see what you want to see and then argue against something that was never stated in the first place

i don't really want to get into an argument about the wider drugs problem. you're obviously a drug advocate and i'm not. and that's not going to change.
however i hardly see that article as 'proof' that the vast majority of drug takers are just a-ok. they did mention that there were 3 overdoses that led to death per day though.

back on topic - it is our business if our players take 'recreational' drugs. and it should also be the business of our clubs doctors etc.
if they want to take drugs, they can happily flip burgers at Hungry Jack's and see what kind of stuff they can afford then
