I can't fathem why you wouldn't want McKay!? He is 17, 200cm athletic beast that takes Contested Marks and kicks goals. We are in good position if we select him and Curnow and then Matheison to finish.

Shaun Hampson and Tom Boyd say hello. Personally not sold on 200cm athletic beast.

Hampson was great below his knees and could run all day. Boyd is now being told he'll have to play more ruck over at the doggies.

I really hope we haven't locked ourselves in to Cunningham at 19 meaning we overlook a slider because that stinks of what we've done the last few drafts.

I guess there is a bit of insurance with McKay and Curnow.

McKay, if he doesn't become a gun forward, at worst he will probably be a ruck/fwd, like Cas. Pinch hit in both spots.
Curnow, if he doesn't become a gun inside mid, could be a decent 191cm 3rd tall fwd.

They have other strings to their bow.

Whereas Collins is a defender and just that, from what I have read anyway.

I am majorly pissed off, have been waiting a long time to watch this live esp with the excitement of 4 early pick + SOSOS and live bidding, but have a work function I cannot get out of.

Works both ways. We opted for the slider in Kane Lucas instead of taking the tall we needed.

Have to back them in because we can't see the future.

Lol you cannot compare a basketball error in Hampson who cannot kick a football to McKay. Tom Boyd will take time. Not sold on 200cm beast have you seen Daniher play??

Just can't help but feel we've had a bit of luck for a change with a draft that is dominated by the best players being tall KPP types.

I've always believed we went about the last rebuild the wrong way around and ended up reaching for the taller types to fill the deficiencies in the list.

Just hope our luck has changed in relation to those taller types having a good run at it instead of being constantly injured and that Lady Luck shines on us tonight.

My wet dream result would be:
Weitering
Francis/Weideman
Curnow
Tucker/Gresham/Rioli

I think I agree. Shallow draft but good talls.

We made a lot of mistakes in the previous rebuild, but some weren't our fault.

We were unlucky we had 3 picks inside top 19 in a poor draft, but then didn't help when we used pick1 on a ruck and pick 19/20 on a speculative ruck.

And Grigg was top 20 and has poor kicking skills and is a tagger really these days.

Trading 11 for Mclean is another dumb move.

The list goes on.

Let's hope SOS gets it right this time and we have learnt from our mistakes.

Jesse Glass-McCasker sounds like a long term project I think... if he was there and we took him at 59, there isnt any pressure on him really to get out and do stuff straight away. But at 198cm and 95Kg, he sounds like another ready made player to me.

I have a hunch he'll be gone by pick 45. Plays shorter than he looks.

I don't put Kane down as a mistake per se. It was just the wrong choice.

Kreuzer/Hampson, Grigg, Mclean were choices that lacked foresight IMO.
Take the pick again and we might still muck up the Lucas pick. I fancied him at the time. Good running capacity. I'd probably still make that pick and still stuff it up but I wouldn't take rucks early ever again, and I wouldn't trade 11 for a slow, injury plagued player, and I wouldnt pick Grigg who was seen at the time as lacking development

Possibly true, but if he's a gun full back/defender then that could allow Weiteriing to be played on the forward line. Weiters just turned 18 and no reason to pigeon hole him as a defender, can mark and kick the ball.

You shouldn't be sold on what McKay is now, he is a high risk prospect. But his ceiling is super high, that's why we like him

I can see that his a high risk high reward type. Having said that since we're in a rebuild, and I'd rather a 150 game dour defender in Collins over a potential boom or bust player McKay. Especially if we're considering one of our top 15 picks. McKay at #19 definitely.

Last thing we need is another ruckman.

In the articles I've seen, they say Collins will be a solid defender, but was trialled at FF and showed he had the ability to play there.

........but better above Megans

o_O Grigg. Absolutely nothing wrong with drafting him. He's barely missed a game since crossing over to Richmond and is on target for 200 games.

Betrayed us but still, on talent he's easily the 19th best player in that draft.

Silvagni has stated a 3 year rebuild .
It's hard to imagine he hasn't mapped out a strategic plan going forward with the knowledge of what's available draft/trade wise .
This.
We have to be patient. SOS and his team will have a plan and we have to wait. We've been crying out for a proper rebuild for years.

Just because they are tall does not mean we need to speculate on ceilings - Ryder, Hampson, Gorringe, etc. etc. There are always better players than these taller types who are over-rated based on one attribute.

Please pick the best players, we already have one of the best 'explosive athletic beasts' in Liam Jones.

Since we are in a rebuild we are starting from the ground up. We have nothing to lose in going for boom or bust players. If Mckay is a bust we don't go backwards. We try again next year. Once we have our key positions (and tall forwards are as key as you get) in place we can concentrate on upgrading less fashionable positions like full back. Indeed those positions are often filled by players unsuited to other parts of the ground (think Pitman, or going back Bourke and Clay who started life as wingmen).

Last thing we need is another ruckman.
You are joking, surely. We have Kreuzer (who couldn't be traded because of medical issues), Phillips (who is a mature age ruckman who has never commanded a regular position in a team that frequently had little in the way of ruckmen), Wood who is rightly on our rookie list and Korchek (no revealed form). Oh, and if we get desperate we can ruck with our only halfway decent tall forward Caz or an undersized and underskilled Rowe.
