But 'taken high'? Thats just a matter of where they are taken not how highly they are rated.

If we take Collins at #11 it doesn't mean he's the #11th best player in the draft.

Collins isnt in the best 15 players in this draft - he's eerily close to that Watson range at around #18.

Yes, but history tells us good talls tend to go at the pointy end of the draft:

Franklin, Roughead, Lynch, Riedwoldt, Riedwoldt Mk II, Nic Nat, Hurley, Carlisle

Even Harry Taylor and Kurt Tippett were second rounders. Not many project talls beyond the top 20 make it

McKay at 8 ill except as long as we go Collins at 11 Collins weitering package just to good to pass up, even if we go weitering , Collins , rioli I would love to piss Richmond off I would hate to have to chase rioli around, my dream draft would be(unlikely to happen)
Weitering,Oliver,Collins,rioli

Yeah they do - generally in the top 10 or so - because theyre too good to pass up

Collins - rated around #15-20 doesn't fit that mould for me. And i can't shake the feeling it will be a huge mistake if we take him.

I'll be sweating at Melbourne's second pick hoping they've changed their mind on Weideman here.

I still think the whole thing could turn on its head as early as GC's pick, if they don't take Ah Chee or Milera.
Yep that's definitely the crux of the draft for us. That and Adelaides pick shapes the draft for us

I was talking about McKay...

Has been a hell of a build up for us. Huge thread, lots of excitement.

Meanwhile the Pies started their draft thread late and half of it is hoping we fail. Ah rivalries ...

whether or not McKay is 200 or 195 isn't really the issue, the key issue is how agile / mobile he is.

if McKay is as agile as a Cameron or Patton and we don't take him just because he's 200 seems a bit short sighted. of course, if he isn't as mobile as he should be then the risk is high.

not sold on Collins, just isn't mobile enough for the way the game is heading. sure, reads the game well but on the whole too much of a Watson for mine.

interesting though, if Collins was 200 with his currently mobility people would be saying we shouldn't take him because he's 200. but at 190 odd his lack of mobility doesn't seem to matter ?

thinks it's presumed that if someone is really tall they won't be agile and if they're shorter they will be, which isn't always the case

I have last minute milera love

You know that with KPP you have to pick some before you get one right?

Like we aren't going to rock up at the club one day and there will be a 198cm marking machine out the front, miraculously signed up overnight who is going to dominate.

Those guys didn't work out, we all know that, they also weren't the top KPP in that draft class or taken high.

We need to take some risks with KPP right now in order to have a shot at having a full side up and going in 2018
We have a lot of needs so going bust on talls is not a list rebuild. I hope we take the best talls who have locked down a position and demonstrated they can play a role - not high risk projects like Hampson once was.

We will get Weitering the best KPD in the draft and AA U18's.
I hope we get Collins the best fullback in the draft and AA. Probably the best fullback prospect seen in the last 5 years since Talia. This is a position we need to fill immediately before Jamo declines. Collins and Weltering are fringe 22 CFC players right now (lower risk) and will play games in 2016.

We will not get Schache (best KPF) but are a chance for Weideman or Burton - both have injury risk, and need development time so are higher risk.
Both Mckays can play - but are development projects with less experience/exposed form and play like they are learning the game late. We do not need another ruck having just got Gorringe and Phillips to add to our injury free Kreuzer, plus Wood and Korcheck. As Casboult can also ruck we have 6 rucks!
We are drafting SOS2 as a KPF.

We need to take quality players that will make a difference, wherever we can find them. If we can get Parish or Oliver or Curnow (KPF/Mid) at #8 plus Tucker, Clarke, Balic, Matheison or Gresham at #19, they will give us some run in the middle.

Would be very happy to get 2 KPD's, 1 KPF and 2 mids.

You know Collins ran 8.62 in the agility test right?

The guy is not Watson, and is the best player in his position for several years.

Yeah gotta say, I'm warming to a Weitering/Curnow/Collins draft - McKay is very tempting but Collins seems the safe, more ready-made pick and sures up the backline nicely.

Curnow/Cas/Jaksch as our tall forwards is a good mix - got a feeling Curnow will develop into a hybrid of Pavlich and Fyfe.

Although, if any of Weideman, Parish or Francis slide then look out.

Our ideal/best case is:

3. Dees - Oliver
4. * - Francis/Weideman/Parish
5. * - Bolter - Milera/Ah Chee/McKay
6. GC - Ah Chee
7. Dees - Francis/Weideman/Parish/McKay
8. Carlton - Francis/Weideman/Parish
9. Adelaide - Milera/McKay/Burton
10. Carlton - Curnow

That's the dream...

Well said.
I use the Hampson Rule.
Hampson was agile, and quick for 200cm, but, couldn't kick , couldn't mark, and lacked nous.
McKay from all reports has a lot more skill and nous.
Doesn't mean he will make it but I think it shows why SOS is interested.
200cm players with agility all have upside, so forget the upside argument.
It's the fact he actually has some semblance of idea how to play the game and has skill that is the key IMO.

Andy McKay said that we formulated a draft strategy at the start of the year. Part one of a 3 year strategy. Just makes me think we are targeting KPPs so they are ready to go when we start to compete again.
Makes sense. In fact too much sense.
