CARLTON

WHO THEY GOT: Jacob Weitering (1), Harry McKay (10), Charlie Curnow (12), David Cuningham (23), Jack Silvagni (53)

WHAT THEY SAID: “We now have the nucleus of a spine to build with in the future. We’re rapt with that. But we do know it’s a big jump from TAC Cup to AFL and it’s going to take some time.” — Brendon Bolton, Carlton coach.

RILEY BEVERIDGE’S ANALYSIS: SOS can be very happy with his work. As well as Jacob Weitering, the Blues nabbed two key forwards in Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow. The latter was a slider who will now work with his brother Ed at Carlton after once being touted a top five selection. David Cuningham is a classy midfielder who uses the ball well, while father-son prospect Jack Silvagni is the third Silvagni to represent the club.

The line has been put in the sand, if your a commodity with value you either perform or your out and that's how it should be.

Casboult needs to move from cameo performances to regular consistent football, hanging onto players just because they take "a" strong grab every week isn't how we're going to roll moving forward.
Fair call but remember playing in carltons forward line wouldnt be an easy thing to do of recent times . And reckon he's about to hit a very good patch in his career and feel it will be a mistake to offload a guy that's about to hit his best ever form for yes a first Rd pick but not a given that first rounder will be better than Casboult .

The Adelaide 'Welcome Tom Doedee' thread is hysterical..............as is Richmond with Rioli and Dogs with Dunkley.

* Tom Doedee thread is 34 pages long already.
Reckon Richmond could have gotten him with a later pick. Bit of a reach for mine at 15.

I can see Cunningham being another Hickmont or maybe Koutafides.
Lol Kouta had no where near the break away speed of Cunningham and Cunningham does not poses the height nor the physical attributes of Kouta.

More a Chris Judd - explosive speed away from the contest kicks okay not exceptional on both feet. As Judd did, he will need to develop his inside game....still a long way from putting him in the same league as the Messiah.

You mean they could have got him for what they gave us for Yarran instead of fighting so hard to hold on to #12?

Think ahead to next years trade period. Casboult could be packaged up with a pick to get another first round, Wood is insurance only. My thoughts on Gorringe and Phillips is that we think one can make it and one wont. So i see it as kind of like a competition. Hopefully Mckay can concentrate on just being a forward.

History says Kreuz will miss half the games each year - so good chance Gorringe and Phillips will be playing in the same team for plenty of games each year. We might need both of them to "make it".

Little surprised we s

We seem keen to offload Casboult I'm not a fan of offloading key position stocks when we've just lost Waite and Henderson Kpp are gold shouldn't be willingly offloading them I believe or atleast younger kpps.
Given time for curnow and mckay to develop Casboult can play closer to goal and be a genuine full forward with his size and better kicking he will give sides a real headache I feel .Being a late developer he's now in his prime I hope we don't trade him I'm sure we could look elsewhere on out list if we want another first Rd pick next year who I'm not sure .

We now have plenty of young talls and need to stock up on mids in next 3 years.

If the young guys develop quickly enough and another team is prepared to offer a R1 pick for Levi?

Would SOS take the R1 pick and get a gun mid through the draft?

Absolutely!!!

It doesn't look as though there will be any rookie elevations this year, given we've topped up our senior list to the desired 38

Will that make it tricky now as to who the nominated rookies will be? Have the feeling that one of Sheehan or Byrne will miss out.
I'm not expecting Wood to play, so I'd say both the Ciarans.

Regardless of 38 or 40, we'll have 3 rookie selections.

been thinking about this a little, think we could be a chance for Melbourne's first rounder (in GC's possession). they showed interest in Everitt last year, perhaps a package of a second rounder Everitt or casboult could work, think that pick could end up around the pick 9 mark.

already hoping for Petrevski-seton - Ainsworth

Interesting stat I heard this morning:

There has been two previous instances where Carlton have had a Silvagni/McKay combination on the list - Serge/David and SOS/Andy. In both of those instances they were all part of premiership success!

Fingers crossed our third Silvagni/McKay combination is as successful as the previous two...

Love how the new recruit for Richmond is not just Daniel Rioli.

It's "Daniel Rioli, taken with Pick #12 which they managed to hang on to in the Yarran trade with Carlton".

I insist we call Cunningham, 'David Cunningham taken with Pick #19 that we prised out of Richmond for that flake Yarran'

I would have thought it important to get your facts straight before jumping on here and being so condescending.

Kreuzer couldn't be traded because he was not on the trade table. The club made it clear that they wanted him to stay but as a free agent he had the right to explore his options elsewhere.

My statement that "he could not be traded because of medical issues" remains true whether or not the club wanted him to stay. Had other clubs been satisfied medically, "given Kreuzer was exploring his options", he might have been traded. So, he could not be traded NOT because he was not on the trade table (as a free agent exploring his options he was) but because of medical issues. And in any event Kreuzer's long term fitness remains "an issue" whether we like it or not.

We have three genuine rucks on the senior list - Kreuzer, Phillips & Gorringe (who you completely overlooked) - and one on the rookie list - Wood. Forget about Korcheck for now as he is a Category B rookie and not likely to see senior game time any time soon, if at all.
My bad. I overlooked Gorringe. A player who played 2 games in 2015 for a club who favoured Nichols (who?) over him even with Smith out of the side. And now Smith and Dixon have left Gold Coast and Port turned down Gorringe after picking up Dixon, somehow we have picked up a certainty as a delisted free agent. Give me a break. Like all of us I am hopeful for Gorringe but he is, entering his 6th AFL season, completely unproven as an AFL footballer, let alone as a ruckman.

Name me one other club who currently has more genuine options available to them than we do. There are very few, if any.
We have one proven ruckman of any quality - kreuzer. At this stage none of the others are anything more than wing and prayer, however much one wants to fantasise about Phillips becoming at least a B grade ruckman (as I do).

checkpoints is right - we have plenty of holes which need to be addressed, but bringing in another ruckman is way down on the list of priorities. We're sufficiently covered in that area of the ground.[/QUOTE]

McKay, unless he grows, will be groomed as a KPF so fortunately SOS's opinion of our ruck strength (sic) was beside the point.

Dont see why we would take wright in the PSD when we could just take him as a delisted free agent. Kerridge would be spewing - wasnt wright the guy keeping him out of the best 22.
No chance he keeps him out of the team at Carlton, you can just already tell kerridge is loved at the club
