I love the "The figures meant one in every 28 Australians was a member of an AFL club."

It doesnt allow for all the double counting that occurs with SMA, when people buy double memberships so they can use them with casual footy mates, corporates get memberships attached to their packages, but no specific individuals, people who double up with AFL membership with club support + club memberships etc etc.

Kevin Sheedy buys a Vic club membership from every Vic club.

They seem to suffer some sort of Stockholm / Battered wife syndrome as a group. Club treats them with disdain - customers, insulting justifications for wrong doings, pretend everything is fine when players are known to be going, being about the only club unwilling to publish Membership numbers, etc. - yet rather then pull the club up and demand better, they accept it and go the step further and rationalise the actions as clever and proof they are the best club in the state.

5AA and The Advertiser really have taught a whole generation. George W. Bush was a poor President, but his quote about the fear of soft bigotry of low expectations is about the most apt one I can think of for that club. May it never change.

It's not about keeping their customers happy, it's about the fact that the media in this state is loaded with Crows ambassadors who lack the journalistic integrity to maintain a neutral POV when reporting things.
Even the little fairy dick head who reads the news on Fresh FM is a crows supporter who talks shit when it's football news he's reading out.
