ESPN's Ed Werder reports DeMarco Murray "addressed frustrations" with his role in the offense in a meeting with owner Jeffrey Lurie.

Werder said Murray did not want to cause a scene, but that may be exactly what he does by bypassing the coach to speak with the owner. Murray was understandably frustrated by seeing eight carries and playing 14 snaps against the Patriots. For his part, Chip Kelly said the lack of work was game-plan specific and declined to officially demote Murray. With this situation swirling, it will be difficult to trust Murray in the first week of the fantasy playoffs.

We're all frustrated Murray. My frustration is that you run slowly sideways and appear incapable of getting above 3.5 yards a carry in an offense where the other backs run for about 5.

Having said that, he should have gotten that last carry. Say what you want about little guys running around big linebackers- that has it's logic I guess. The purpose of the last carry was NOT to run around really though. It was to take it up the middle safely, and get down. If you gain a first down great, but it wasn't a necessary component. Murray was absolutely a safer option to do that than Barner.

Happy Mathews is back this week. We really missed him in the games against Tampa Bay and Detroit. Wonder what the splits will be this week with everyone healthy at RB.

The biggest disappointment with Murray has been his attitude when stuff doesn't go well. Glad to have mathews back. Hopefully he can stay healthy for the rest of the season. Him and Murray should swap contracts.

On a team with a mediocre WR core, Miles Austin got cut. Still can't believe he did not drag his toe, WRs practice that shit all the time.

Huff's an interesting case. He actually made a play against the Bucs. Then didn't get another target. Whilst Austin got bombarded. If we leave aside Chip's failings as a GM, the coaching hasn't been great.

One thing that astounds me with Huff, and also with Sproles is just how ineffectual our screen game is. With Andy we were consistently one of the best screen teams in the league. That's no more. I really thought the bubble screen would be a big play for Chip. We just cannot get it to work.

Sproles, who was previously the leagues premier pass catching back has been non existent as a receiver. We saw what Brees did with him. Look at what Brady did with Dion Lewis this year (a far inferior player). Why can't we get production from Sproles? There's been a few miscues this year on drops/overthrows etc with him, but that doesn't explain the entire phenomina.

We can't get Huff consistently involved on offense. It's his second year, he should know the offense. Why don't we get the ball in his hands more? He should be taking a number of short dump passes at the least per week, with a view towards seeing what he can get as YAC. Treat it as effectively a run. Why doesn't he ever take end arounds? Have him take some snaps out of the back field.

We're not at all creative in our formations any more. Remember that two TE split out formation that Chip used to use? Where is it? Why doesn't it exist any more, when our TE talent is our biggest offensive strength? Why not have a four receiver set with Huff/Celek and Ertz/Sproles grouped up. What do you do as a defending team? We could run, call screens, or exploit TEs down the field.

That's the sort of match up difficulty that Chip's reputation promised, and yet we don't see it. Where is the innovative offense? There's got to be more to it than fast snap counts and the same few plays over and over.

Actually, seriously, it is a great analysis.

I'd only add that once one overlays a salary cap/time based financial commitments analysis over the top of the practical issues that Kemsi identifies, it becomes really clear that the total waste of money on Maxwell and Murray will hurt us far more than the mere failure of the coaching schemes. Were it not for shitful play from 3 of our opponents we'd have only 1 win this year.

Re: Maxwell, I feel better about that than I do about Murray still. We probably overpaid, but it was a forced and permissible overpaying in my opinion. Still better than what we had. Our secondary is struggling to match bigger receivers, yet it's still far improved than last year.

Big problems in Lions / Bucs games were compounded by absence of pass rush. Barwins's reduction in production was probably foreseeable, but is still a bit suprising.

Graham's been our best pass rusher still. Could still get 10+ sacks. No coincidence that our better games come when he's had multiple sacks.

He's not getting a great deal of support on the pass rush. Far reduced numbers from Curry, and Barwin.

He has 4 forced fumbles, and the olbs in this defense are asked to drop into coverage alot, have a look at barwin's numbers, besides last year he has had pretty mediocre sack numbers for us, but he is very good overall in terms of setting the edge, getting deflections and pressuring the qb.

If he is not getting targetted, maybe he is not getting open vs man coverage.

You can shit on his coaching all you want, but the biggest problem has been the lack of receiver talent. Donovan Mcnabb put up some pretty average numbers with James Thrash, Pinkston and Mitchell. You can blame Chip as a GM for this, but if you are going to shit on him for Demarco, Maclin and Desean (who has been very average this year) then you also have to applaud him for dumping foles, not resigning cole or herremans, signing Thurmond and Mathews and drafting hicks. Also if the Bradford experiment pays off, meaning he is a top 10 qb in the league, he is GM of the year.

There is a reason the redskins gave up the farm for rg3. Elite qbs or top qb talents don't get given away, ever.

Objective data shows less snaps than worse prospects. All 22 footage review will almost always reveal open receivers who do not get targeted on any particular play (for whatever reason).

In any event, if receivers are consistently failing to get open, it may also demonstrate a failing in play calling- are the routes too predictable?

As much as it seems like a ridiculous statement, I actually think you're right. if Bradford were a franchise QB, it would vindicate chip despite the bad year. Unfortunately, I still don't think he is. We fall apart the next four games and I doubt he's even on our roster next year. Bye bye second round pick.

If the failing is our horrible talent at WR, then it's more than a failing on the GM for who he let go. He's also failed to bring in anyone of talent.

The decisions re:

Huff (third round pick). According to you can't ever get open.
Agholor (first round pick).
M Smith III (first round pick, look at the talent taken in that round, or afterwards re WR)
Austin (paid millions above market value)

All highly questionable.

Dumping Foles for Bradford is not forced to be a success, and indeed one could be critical of it. We'd be at least where we are this year with Foles. And we'd have a lot more money. If Bradford doesn't work out, we gave up a second round pick for nothing. Indeed, one would question whether the deal could have been done without the pick to start with (noting that the rams were obviously cap dumping). The trade reeks of inexperienced GM.

Re: Mathews, he's been good when on the field, but continually injured. Which was the knock on signing him. No master stroke yet.

Not resigning Cole was a pretty straight forward decision.

I don't think any, even the most manically unwilling to consider criticism could in good faith suggest that we should be praising chip for his handling of the offensive line. We cut both Herremans and Mathis with no replacement plan other than deep depth back ups. That's your praise point? Seriously?

I got no idea either, time will tell, I think he sticks around as long as he does not regress. I think he will work out, he has the pedigree, and he also had brian shottenheimer as his OC in St Louis (he is really bad).

I agree, but he has also cut and traded offensive talent for defensive talent. When chip got here, we had 3 good defensive players, Ryans, Cox and Kendricks. We may now have an elite defense (assuming the lions and buccs game were outliers).

Doubt it, I think the rumours of the Browns offering a 1st rounder for bradford before the draft were confirmed.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells Profootballtalk there’s a "lot of truth" to the idea that DeMarco Murray would like to return to Dallas.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reported something similar on Thursday. A disastrous fit for Chip Kelly's offense, Murray would love to resume going north and south for the team he broke out for last season, but his contract makes him all but un-tradable. He's due $7 million guaranteed in 2016. Both sides are going to want to move on, but they'll have to be willing to get creative.
