It's absolutely a design flaw that no alert is sent to the bridge/command centre when the shields were taken down.

As for my ship analogy, I wasn't necessarily referring to oscillator. I meant a ship could target the weapon itself, or the bridge. Anything really.

Who says they weren't? As soon as the shield was taken down, the fighters were sent in - 20 seconds. How long do you think it takes for the shields to power up again? Ever been through a blackout? You know why it takes so long for the power to come back on? Because you can't just flip a switch and shunt all the power back through the system - it would cause an overload. You have to bring the power on in sequence - it would probably take at least an hour for the shields to come back on line if you're using any sense of quasi-realism. Hell, even the Death Star had a time required to charge, and that was simply focused energy.

"Black Leader, you are clear to drop into sub-space at your discretion." = 20 seconds. They were already IN hyper-space traveling toward the base, probably signaled by Han as soon as Finn said "I have an idea about that."

Hux saying to Snoke that the fuel cells have ruptured, Snoke telling him to bring Ren to him - the fight between Rey and Ren occurring just outside the oscillator. If Chewbacca can travel the distance back to the Falcon (did you actually see how far away the ship landed from the actual base? It was a good three to five kilometers away) on foot, Hux could easily get in a shuttle, pick up Ren and be gone in the same time.

It's called implied time scale. Who knows how long Rey and Ren were fighting? Or how long it took for her to get back to Finn? It's not like Hux was in much of a hurry when he was talking to Snoke, was it? He sounded calm - a bit agitated, but not fearful for his life.

Hope he does the same with Kylo. The foundation is already there with how delved into the mind of Walter White in Breaking Bad.

Adam Driver made some great comments at SDCC that I recall, along the lines of Kylo not necessarily being a bad guy. Or a villain. But doing what he believes is right. There's a fine line between evil and one believing they are doing the right thing.

It's a line that was walked throughout Breaking Bad. TFA has laid the foundations for a great Star Wars villain, very promising. Looking forward to seeing how Johnson takes this further in the next episode.

That's the vibe l got from the film, which is good for a deeper story, which this episode is developing the premise and new characters. Hux is a good example of this, you could see in his speech, that he passionately believes that the new republic is a corrupt menace that promotes galactic instability and that the first order can provide long term stability, security and justice to the galaxy. Showing emotion and passion in Kylo's and hux's dialogue and actions gives the series some humanity, depth and character.

Even Snoke didn't seem that peeved about losing his bass tbh. Suggests that the imperials were able to evacuate a sizable chunk of their soldiers and officers.

In TFA era, there's only Luke representing the Jedi. All that's left of them. And Kylo and Snoke representing the dark side / sith. All that's left of them.

Sith seem to have a pretty solid idea with the Rule of Two, and the collapse of Jedi culture coincides with its expansion. Why does there need to be more than two?

Volume is half the problem in the PT. Nothing matters when the intensity/power is split across too many. Two Jedi required to maintain peace as neutrals. Heck, volumes half of what I struggled with in TFA (Which I loved). Too much at the end of the day, needed to have more quiet moments. And volume of ANH homage-ness.

Bullshit, people I went to school with still knew who Luke Skywalker is, even if they don't like Star War, and my age group is well after the OT release. It is as cultural as James Bond or King Kong. Luke SKywalker action figures would be even more prominent than the new characters IF Disney weren't so keen (and I do respect them for it) on keeping his role in this film as secretive as possible.

Yeah you do bring up a good point and my word choice was poor. I grew up with the PT and certainly knew who Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader/Anakin were. I do think I had seen all of the OT before TPM came out although I can't remember for sure. Still, not sure how many of the kids would understand the significance of him or know his story outside of the basics, I don't think they'd have the attachment to him that older fans do. Which was kind of what I was trying to say, that I think the new characters will drive the story and Luke will be a part-time player (likely an important one at that though). Just a response to all the theories on Luke over the last couple of pages insinuating that he might be a big part of things going forward (I.e by turning to the dark side) when I don't necessarily think he should be. If Disney are going to back in new characters I hope they go all-in with them and give them the story to tell.

My 7 year old daughter was gutted at little she saw Luke win the movie. She's asked for a revisit to concentrate on the movie, particularly, funny Kylo and his cray cray with his Saber.

Disney are going to back there characters in, but it can't be at the expense of the originals. 2 situations where the original characters were pushed to the side and it made no sense was Chewie and Leia ignoring each other after Han and Leia only having eyes for Rey, and Rey going to get Luke instead of his sister, or a familiar face in Chewie at least walking with here.

I dispute this in a way, Luke was clearly in a deep state of shock, and it is implied it is a long drive to the house from where the group was. He probably had time to process things and knew first priority was leaving the planet.

The grief over Ben was shown literally seconds after he dies.

Whether Luke Skywalker is still interesting or not, the bigger factor may well be just how much Mark Hamill wants to do in the next movies. If he is keen to get in shape and be the hero Jedi again, great. If he just wants to have a few token appearances without too much effort required, don't be surprised to see him be a ghost very early on.

He already lost a fair bit of weight for the force awakens and he was in one scene. I think he will be up for it. He is now 63(?), it'll be his last big moment in his acting career IMO. I'm not expecting Luke to become the main character again in any of the next movie/s, but he'll be in the thick of the action i reckon.

Leia will be the one who will take a back seat role and do nothing in the next ones, Carrie Fisher isn't upto it but she still has to play Leia as she is the original.

Oh and one thing I noticed. Rey's fighting style. Her "stabbing" moves vs Ren. Go back and watch Palpatine use a Lightsaber and see the similarities. Probably coincidental more than anything.

Seeing Ren have his tantrums was funnier the second time, and BB-8 just gets more adorable the more you see him. I'll cry if he ever gets killed.

So that's how you interpret the inside of his head? Imo there was no surprise. He would've felt her coming before they even landed. So he'd be well prepared emotionally for the actual moment she gets close. He had time to gather his thoughts and express a gesture. Imo he was scowling at her, or like boring into her eyes -- not unlike Anakin at Padme but without the sexual intent. Like he wasn't pleased etc. Think about you walking up to someone you know and they turned around so gloriously/deliberately and then gave you that intense look at you, without approaching you etc. How would you read that? You'd almost certainly think...."why is he unhappy to see me" or "what did i do wrong?" It's a confrontational look. You're either projecting disgust, contempt, or sexual desire toward the person.

All I will say is that he has improved his acting since some of the shit work he dished up in RoJ.
