Settle down lads. Sturridge wont be fit to play in the final or any games. Let's be honest.

Klopp did say in his last update that "he's taken a big step forward" and he could return against West Ham. Previously Klopp had dismissed Sturridge returning pretty bluntly.

I remember people being quite excited when we were chasing Moreno haha.

(Not having a go, cos I never know anything about players before we sign them, but the contrast between the pre-signing optimism to the view once reality has set in is pretty funny sometimes)

I think it was in comparison to chasing Bertrand and Ben Davies

Grass is always greener in the foreign leagues

Also none of us know jack

Moreno has regressed as a player since he left Seville. Was far better going forward back then. People would give him more slack if he offered a threat going forward

Still he hasn't been terrible this season, has his bad spells yeah but no different to the other players, but with where Liverpool wants to be, we probably need a better first choice LB

A couple of things

How much Sevilla did you watch when he was playing?
Can you compare the amount of space afforded to attackers in La Liga comapred to the Premier League?

I actually do watch quite a few full matches of our signings by the previous clubs

The spaces around the La Liga and the premier league in most matches aren't that far apart, the pace of the game is different though. However Moreno's problem is he makes bad decisions on the ball, it's not a space issue

It's pretty much captain hindsight to say people got excited about Moreno because he was from a foreign league and all that rubbish though, we were either signing him or Bertrand/Davies, whom I'm sure you must've watched plenty of since they're from a league you presumably watch?

Wasn't an attack on you, genuinely curious because everyone throws out how much they like a signing from a foreign league despite not watching said league.

I also agreed with you with regards to him being a favoured choice to Bertrand. I was pretty annoyed that we looked like missing a good signing because we couldn't pony up a couple of million for the full fee. However, people clearly favour foreign players and there's a stigma on Premier League player signings.

How did you find his defensive positioning at Sevilla compared to this season?

It's alright mate

I think Bertrand would've been utter shit with us and still do, he isn't much chop at Soton this season now

Oh Sevilla fans were just about as gobsmacked at his defensive howlers back then as we do now so he hasn't improved much in that regard. But at least back then he could cross and could score, that has dried out

But I think the stigma with premier league players is kinda deserved particularly with our record in this league. Just in the past decade, Konchesky Joe Cole, Keane, Downing Adam, Enrique, Carroll, Henderson, Allen, Sturridge, Lallana Lovren, Lambert, Benteke Milner etc etc. Far less hits than misses. Even if Moreno doesn't succeed, at least he didn't cost much and would be on around or less than 40k wages. Someone like Enrique's on 65k

Look at what the rest of the comp have at LB. Kolarov / Clichy at City. Shaw didn't exactly set the league on fire for United last season. Monreal had a very similar start to Moreno at Arsenal and has come good. Gibbs is rubbish. Baines was very good for Everton but is declining rapidly. And Rose is a spud at Spurs.

Sure, Moreno's had a few poor performances this season but he's also produced nearly the most chances in the league and has put in some very good performances. I'm quite happy with Moreno at LB with Flanagan and Smith as competition when you look at what the rest of the leauge offers (only Bellerin, Coleman & Azicpuleta are what you would call quality full backs). Some of the stuff written about Moreno has been a reaction to his stupidity against Norwich IMO.

I would like to see where this stat comes from and how it's compiled coz when you watch us then watch him play, you just don't see it

I don't think he's terrible but I think he has been in pretty bad form the last few weeks, almost all the goals against us nowadays are either corners or comes from his side. I'd rather a full back who is solid defensively and doesn't do much going forward than someone who isn't great at either end

Speaking as someone who has never played a game of soccer in his life

Would fullback be one of the hardest positions to play nowadays? There's a lot of expectation to get forward and create as well as defend. Not to heap excuses on him, and I'd rather have someone who defends first and attacks second, but perhaps like WC2022 suggests, we should temper expectations.

It would be good to have more options. Gomez and Ings were most unfortunate injuries looking at our situation at both of their positions in our squad.

I've seen plenty of quality crosses put in by him. Tekkers has butchered many of them.

I just don't see how we could significantly upgrade on Moreno. In the PL alone only Azpi is a significantly better than Moreno. Smith, Flanno & Moreno is pretty good in terms of options IMO and will see Moreno looking over his shoulder

I have rarely seen such crosses, I think Brad Smith has put in more quality crosses in his few games than Moreno has an entire season. I still do not trust that stat whatsoever

Really? I think Luke Shaw's better, Monreal's far better, I think even Danny Rose is better than him

I don't think he's Konchesky, but he is pretty average. I just don't get it when other Liverpool fans tell me he's had a great season

I did say significantly better. Monreal I'll give you. Shaw is nothing special and on huge wages. Rose you have to be kidding, hes an absolute spud. Nobody is claiming Moreno's had a great season. He's done pretty much what every other FB has done. FB is probably the last position I'd be looking at strengthening if I'm Klopp atm.

Shaw is better than Moreno, let's not let Manc bias get in the way

You say that about Rose but people from the outside look at Moreno and say the same, plus Rose has done more in a very solid Spurs defense, despite me not thinking he's great

He really hasn't done what every FB has done ya know, but whatever. Come next season when Enrique goes we'll need a LB if Jurg doesn't fancy Brad Smith so it's not as cut and dry as you think

TBF to Baines he has had a bad run with Injuries.

hi everyone. WE'RE GOING TO WEMBLY!!!! IF ANYone asks from opposition clubs, EVERY CARES about the league cup!

I couldn't give a rats if it's the league cup or not, it'll show under Klopp that silverware is possible if they work hard enough under him. Also the confidence that could be achieved by winning this could be a season changer.

What's the team against West Ham? Can't think it'll be particularly strong line up coming off 120 minutes midweek and Leicester a few days after.

Need to play the depth/kids. Not sure who plays at right back since Flanno played more than he should have + Clyne and Randall are injured. Could possibly be Enrique?

Predicted Team

Benteke
Ojo-Teixiera-Ibe
Allen-Stewart
Smith-Caulker-Lovren-Flanagan
Ward

Subs: Bogdan, Ilori, Enrique, Chirivella, Brannagan, Kent, Sinclair

Man I hope it's Everton. The FA Cup semi final the other year was absolutely thrilling.

On the other hand, we've got a great record against City and in-form Lukaku coming up against our shitty defense is frightening.
