if we could merge VB and Mackay we might get somewhere
We would still get half a player.....

Teague will need to get out soon and I doubt Campo will, he was openly rebuked by Roo. Teague was the only guy to have spoken openly about an experienced plodder not being in best 22 form. Oddly, not long after Noble's classic 'non-statistical' statement. I think Campo creates a bit of a problem for aspiring coaches at our club. Either not interested in senior coaching due to his love and commitment to a construction company or not prepared to compete for the role. Either way, if you want to be a senior coach, Adelaide's not the club because there's a permanent senior assistant whose very comfortable where he is with no plans to go anywhere else, upwardly or accrossedly (new word?).
There is a reason Campo didn't get the senior gig.
I've never had the impression he'd make a good senior coach, and his stint in charge did nothing to change that.
Builds a bloody nice house though.
VB was our captain for 66 games
McKay was a highly skilled and rated player.
And Reilly was a very good player also.

And? What's your point? We weren't the ones who picked him to be captain, many of us never wanted him in that role to begin with. Are you suggesting we need to like or respect him more than others on our list because of it? Trigg was our top man for many years, didn't make him any better in my eyes.
Highly rated internally perhaps, but that's about it, and the B&F voting even puts that into question these days. I suspect he's been very lucky thanks to our squad's lack of outside options these last few years.
With the exception of 2012, no he wasn't.
Is harper still guarding the bee?My gut feel is that the business and kids thing was just an excuse because he was told he wouldn't get the gig or would have to present to get it on merit. I think we'd built a culture of expectation that you do the time, you get the next gig up, no external applicants required. I'd like us to shed the footy dept staff who've been around and ascended during the Trigg era. I expect to see these numbers thinned out over the next 2 off-seasons.
If that happens pencil him in for the next 15 seasonsIf he has 25 touches and 500m gained, nobody will be saying he shouldn't get a game in round 2.
West AdelaideMackay started the season off well under Walsh in the role Walsh had for him ......almost meets your criteria for a 15 year contractIf that happens pencil him in for the next 15 seasons

We'll never know if he'd get shat on or not.
On his 4 most recent games, 2 of which were finals, were terrible. Do you think he'll be in AA contention this year?

Are you saying the data is stupid because (1) it's stupid we kept selecting him even though he was rubbish or (2) that the data doesn't actually mean anything and is therefore stupid to use in an argument about whether he's good?
Simply you twisted what I said and went off on a rant using data to try and justify your POV.
Ha. Should've have just watched his game v Hawthorn then.

As soon as Jeansch went down.....that defensive role saw the end of him .....and after Walsh it was all downhill from there to the famous final series ........but give credit where it's due

West AdelaideEveryone has a personal opinion on how a player plays ......one poster says player x is quiet, another says same player played well ......that's the nature of AFL with so many players on the field & us supporters not knowing the roles of playersHe was terrible in 4 of these 8 games and mediocre against Port.
West AdelaideHey hang on ......you see this is where people don't actually read posts ......they dissect the part they want to respond too and forget the restWW you know I'm in favour of a less histrionic view of Mackay as a a player viewed across his entire career, but it doesn't help when you make excuses for some pretty ordinary performances from him. He may have hit 'acceptable' a few times last year, but on the whole, he was rubbish.

Most of the team struggled. Mackay embarrassed himself. Do you remember the incident in the goalsquare? I refuse to call it a contest.FGS what has that got to do with anything. Most of the team had a bad game. The team got beaten badly. SMH.

So what you say is simply your opinion .......the coaching group has the final say ....and despite what some of the negative nellies say .....they have more experience, more knowledge, and know the team structures/roles better than us
huludicidal or some one else who isn't on WW's ignore list please point out to him that the coaches who have the final say only and know the team structures and roles better than us, actually agreed with us and only gave him votes in 3 of those 8 games he mentioned. He was terrible in 4 of these 8 games and mediocre against Port.

Now I will put money on the fact he moves onYou're right.
Your old mate Elite Crow wanted to let you know that the coaches gave him votes in his 3 good games out of those 8 (all 3 were against bottom 8 opponents).
The other 5 performances (including 5 of the first 6 games of the season) netted him a grand total of 0 votes.
Hardly a good start to the year I wouldn't have thought.
But honestly, who cares what his start to 2015 was like? It's been blatant for 4 years now that Mackay is not a difference maker at AFL level. He's a solid depth outside player who wouldn't be in any competitive side's best 22 in 2016. He won't be in our side either if all of Knight, Cameron, Menzel, Seedsman, Hampton, Smith etc are fit to start the year. The return of Henderson and Jaensch to calculations by Round 5-10 will make his path to senior footy even harder, and it's pretty easy to see Milera going past him by the bye (if he hasn't already).
Mackay has been kissed on the dick in the past by our club's lack of viable alternative outside options. That issue has now been rectified, and I wouldn't mind betting that D-Mac gets traded for a bag of chips this offseason (pick 40-50) to a struggling Victorian club like Essendon, Melbourne or Carlton.
