The truth is Bucks has been under pressure from the minute he got drafted by Brisbane.

I agree I thought it was a brave move and to me quite inspiring.

But like I have said since the St.Kida defeat talk is cheap.

Looking forward to Sunday let's see if the players back up their coach.

Bucks wouldn't be worried about his position at all. He'd be worried about getting the players up and about to win on Sunday.

If they want to dig in for him Sunday to keep him around or if he's lost the players like some believe, they will go through the motions and get beaten heavily by the demons. I guess we'll find out the answer Sunday afternoon...

No doubt sinclair will play, if so he is the likely match up on Garland ( unless they resurrect tooveys career ) if so he must play goal side on him at all times. Nothing more deflating than a walk in goal plus garland is a bit shaky from a set shot. Rather he earn a goal than get gifted a goal

I would also consider bringing in frost to play on hogan, brown better suited to the stay at home forward, maybe he makes way for him.

I dont want to see any of frost, maynard or sinclair kicking from a behind. A non negotiable.

I haven't heard that Buckley had wanted MM to another year and would not have believed it if I had. The two men thoroughly disliked each other in the end. If MM had stayed, the men would never have harmonious coached together.

Maybe MM secretly believed that Buckley would not make a good coach?. Perhaps Buckley's relationship with the players was not how MM would have interacted, or maybe he saw that Buck's inner self-talk motivation approach was no match for his mix of fire and brimstone and love of the boys?

Surely the difference in their styles was evident in the cultural revolution under Buckley that outed Thomas, Shaw, Didak, Wellingham and others? To suggest that Bucks and Mick could amicably have spent another year together, and that Bucks actually suggested the arrangement to Ed, is ludicrous.

We do have the benefit of a soft draw.

Have you been watching us play Quicky? We could play Essendon, Carlton and Brisbane for the rest of the season and we'd probably still find a way to bugger it up...

On a serious note the best outcome possible is to go 3-1 over the next month to get ahead of the ledger and limit the damage v West Coast. From there you try to build into the season, but it'll be a monumental task to bring the % so we're better off just looking at wins for now anything else is a bonus, IMO.

The evidence is overwhelming that the succession plan has failed. There would need to be a complete turn around for that to change.

No shit Sherlock and we have players like Swan who probably will never play in a GF again because of it.

Just saying that if his position as coach is dependent on making the finals this year then we may as well wait until the end of the year to address his contract. Personally I would give him two years now.

Lots of good points as always.
I support an extension for Bucks on the basis that our young players appear to be buying-in to the program. Of course we will learn more about that as the season rolls on. Should everything turn to total crap this year then I would support a change providing a suitable option was available. Don't think that will happen though.

As for 2010, I thought we had no chance after the 2009 prelim.

I agree with your view that we have been rebuilding. I disagree though on the criteria for a successful year. Whilst the club may have set sights on a finals finish I believe that is premature. We are still some way off having the necessary experience to sustain the level of football needed, and IMO the club should be taking a longer term view by signing Buckley up for another two or three years. Making the finals this year will be very tough and I don't believe we should be expecting that.

It will work with guys who have a professional approach.

Bucks doesn't have a problem with individuals, he is great mates with Swanny. He has a problem with selfish pricks who put their own interests before the team.

I checked your posts in this thread from Jan/Feb and you appear to have significantly abandoned your defence of Buckley, and are now seeking that Bucks remain coach only the remainder of this season rather than being given a 2 year extension. Your posts were attracting Baltimore Jack likes where I doubt they would now. 3 weeks is a long time in a supporter's life.

Not that I have a problem with the Fletcher Christian role you have assumed this year - I'll help you toss him off ship and set him adrift with his mates in a leaky boat, and throw in his wake the zone defence strategy. Let's hope he does not then proves a skillful navigator of the tide of unpopular opinion like Bligh. When he's gone, we don't want him convincing others that he was wronged.
