If we don't do any other big trades I would probably not want to downgrade a first rounder for just Steele. More like our 3rd this year and 2nd next year for him.

I wouldn't get upset if we went for a player such as Scrimshaw with our first rounder and maybe a key forward ( project player ) late in the draft.
It doesn't strike me as a good year to be without that second pick.

I reckon they are a bit lighter on for KP talent myself. We have excellent forward structure with multiple prongs. we are light on down back though. There has been talk the Hawks are taking Mc donald and if Hogan gets snatched they are in trouble. Dawes and Pederson will be lucky to play anything but VFL. Garland and Dunn seem to be playing VFL too, Hullett looks okay.

They are okay but their mid filed squad runs very very deep so a couple of utility types and KP talent and they should have a pretty solid squad all round with plenty of depth and continued development. It will be really interesting to see what they do post Paul Roos. I haven't been the biggest Roos fan at Melbourne but he's instilled a bit of work ethic and he's leaving them with a very strong list. If the handover works they should be in a good place to have some sustained success.

FWIW, both McDonalds have just re-signed.

I like Jack Steele and think he develops into a high production (but not star) AFL mid but a trade of Pick 9 for Steele and 16 is WAY over on our end. I'd be looking at basing something around next years second with some change their way if we were trading just for Steele.
Top 10 picks are worth their weight in gold.
Without a second this year it will be interesting to see what happens if he chose to move to Moorabbin.

Scrimshaw is firmly in the first-round mix for this year's national draft, with his damaging kicking, intercept marking, evasiveness, height and production by position making him arguably the most appealing general backman in this year's draft class.

Scrimshaw should look to gain further strength in one-on-one contests. This will allow him to hold his own against stronger opponents and take more contested marks, which with his ability to read the flight, is an element of his game that can grow further and translate well to AFL level.

He could also look to take the game on more with his run and carry, as with the ease with which he sidesteps players, has the scope to have more of an impact with his run.

I don't agree with that at all.

We have Roberton (194cm) for one, and in terms of kids, Payne (193cm) - who Richo is apparently big on - and White (188cm) for starters, plus Webster (188cm). McKenzie also plays much taller than his listed 184cm due to his massive leap.

Add to that, as much as I like him, Scrimshaw has a poor injury history at this point and I'd be wary of taking him when looking at our genuine needs.

Taranto (I'm converted Roadto2018) ticks a lot of boxes. He's bigger than most of our kids at 186cm-plus, has lovely skills and is a goal threat. He's versatile too; often plays out of the goal square at school when Pat Kerr is on the move or having a rest.

Someone to consider later is Sandy's Corey Lyons. Brother of Adelaide's Jarryd, he's a 182cm 78kg midfielder.



Averages 24 touches (66.2% eff.), 4.3 marks (0.3 con.), 2.3 tackles and just less than a goal a game.

He's a good solid citizen, who definitely resembles his brother in style. Knock on him is his efficiency by foot (59.5%), though he goes at 77.5% by hand.
