Also @ Saints; told Tony Elshaug was privately talking up Tom Lee's 5 goal VFL game.
May have saved himself from next round of delistings.

#whispers expect Will Hoskin Elliott to be offloaded be years' end too. Lions are very keen, though my read is he'd prefer to be in Victoria

Assuming he came with a steak knives pricetag i wouldn't be upset with getting WHE.
A few times over the years I've seen some gws dude do something that makes you go pwoar!!!

Each time it was WHE.

Of course I'm sure those moments aren't a regular occurance, hence the steak knives pricetag....
But we could do with a bit more pwoar!!! I think.

Junktime Jack is 28, and would behind Paddy, Josh Bruce and Skunk.
Wait, the two-time AA (including just last year- which put him in the top 2 out of 40+ tall forwards in the comp) and dual-Coleman Medalist, who hasn't kicked less than 48 goals in any year since he was 20yo (despite being played further up the ground for so much of that time) would be behind all 3 of our tall options up forward, including the young pup who has so far struggled to play more than a few games on the trot? :D

He would be behind the Josh Bruce who played the same number of games as him this year, yet had 100 less kicks (127 to 227), 41 less marks (100 to 141), 10 less goals (38 to 48), less than half the inside-50's (28 to 59), less than half the goal-assists (8 to 18), half the free kicks (when taking into account the frees he received v gave away), 83 less disposals, 42 less contested possessions, 26 less marks inside-50 (42 to 68) and averaged just 55 Supercoach points to Jack's 85?

Wow, they are some very rose coloured glasses right there!!

Richmond are a shambles, with poor leadership and have IMO been mismanaging Jack for years now, as he has the ability to kick 70+ goals and he would likely walk in as our no.1 up forward and would allow Bruce to be moved down back, where we do have a need- hence Jack would indirectly fill a need, and likely make us a considerably better side immediately and give us a better shot at a flag in coming years.

If we could get him (and front-end his contract) and Steele and hit up "mids" in trades and FA next year we could be in serious business going forward.

I get that Jack isn't perfect from an attitude POV and so-on, but he seemed to mature a hell of a lot after Maddie died last year and it reflected in his game. He then deservedly got named CHF in the AA side on the back of it and I reckon with better coaching and culture around him he would become better than he has been for much of his time at Richmond.

I have a feeling he'd be like Eddie Betts. Very good and consistent at one club, but then even better and more damaging with a fresh start and hopefully better coaching and culture at another. Especially if you really put your foot down from the start and made it clear that any of petulant or similar behaviour wouldn't be tolerated.

A forward line of him, Paddy, Membrey and co. going forward? Yowza!

Really good post and although it makes 100% sense and I found myself completely agreeing with you....I still don't want Jack Riewoldt anywhere near our club.

He just seems petulant, rumours are that a lot of his team mates don't like him (yes rumours), he has been one of the best performers for the club up top but has never been voted into a leadership group.

I feel any enhancement he can bring to us on field would be offset by causing disharmony off it. We seem to have a good group of guys that are quite closely knit. Wouldn't want to jeoparise that for junk-time Jack.

Fair enough. He certainly does seem to divide opinion! Would love to see how he'd go at a club with better leadership and culture though.

Totally agree how you rate him but we obviously different ideas of what we should spend high picks on. Jack would cost a hell of a lot and I don't think we can pay that for a player we already have good players in similar positions. We need to look for mids and not worry about improving a position of good strength. Let's face it we are getting him anyway

Well of course if Jack was to cost too much I wouldn't do it. The most I would pay would be our first this year and a young fringe type (in a position we have well covered) with potential (but not too much of it) and if Richmond for whatever reason were keen to offload him and that was enough to get it done I'd almost certainly do it, but it probably wouldn't, so in that case I wouldn't do it.

If the only other one we'd be getting in a trade this year was looking like being Steele, then getting Jack and front-ending his contract wouldn't necessarily prevent us from getting more "mids" through trades or FA next year (and this year's draft), so that wouldn't concern me all that much. I think our midfield already has a heap of potential and adding Steele (and whoever else we get in the draft this year) to it would make it even stronger and then next year we could get even more.

Well I don't have my crystal ball on me, so while I think that's very highly likely, I don't know that for certain, so I won't agree with it. I bet there weren't too many that saw Griffen leaving WB and GWS trading the ultra-hyped Tom Boyd for him, for example and there's certainly talk going around that Richmond aren't opposed to letting Jack or Delidio go, so given that we seem to be having a crack at everyone, I wouldn't discount too much at all at this stage.

He's worth more to the Hawks, or Freo, or Bulldogs ( or even Collingwood if they are still delusional enough to think they are inside some sort of window ) than he is to StKilda. Therefore he's more likely to end up at one of those.

My concern is that we make the same mistakes from the early 2000s and spend too many picks and resources on untried and developed players that are then not around for an era, but probably just to help you get to top 4, then retire. We were probably OK on the older guys by getting value out of those, but squandered picks on the likes of Watts and Brooks. But should still be a lesson, particularly given we don't have nearly the same top 5 picks.

So you would take our first rounder, with potentially a talented footballer with 12-14 years ahead of him, for Jack who we don't "need" with a few years ahead if that?
But you admit its unlikely?

So why are we talking about it then?
