Have to disagree based on his age and the AFL decisions of late. I think and end-of-second-round is the best case scenario, with a third-round being more likely.

They don't take age into consideration any more.

Last years compos:

Suckling netted the Hawks a 2nd round pick. He was unrestricted.

Selwood netted the Eagles a 2nd round pick. He was a RFA.

Leuenberger netted the Lions an end of 2nd round pick. He was a RFA.

And not one of them would be close to 500k.

Yep, legend of the club is way over the top.

I'll miss Spud more than i will Wells, even knowing their vast difference in talent.
Gonna miss spud. When he went straight at breust in round 13 before the ball was even bounced and he crapped his dacks :(

Only going to leave us with 550k to spend on hopefully someone younger and less injury prone

Not angry about him wanting to leave. He is probably personally pissed off on all the retirements and feels insecure or just wants the money etc going to miss his clean, incredible skills and decision making. I feel like he lost all that motivation after he was injured so maybe there is also something internal going on

The reason doesn't matter, but does show there is no such thing as 100% loyalty for your club. Have to keep remembering that this is not only a passion to play footy but also a job. If the pies think that are in a final tilt like we did then good luck to them. Top up all you can to save your job Buckley

I get the feeling they are as deluded as we were 3 years ago

Interesting that a 2 time Syd Barker winner (plus 1 runner up) doesn't even get close to being called a legend.

57 different winners, 17 of which have won it more than once. 17, that's WAY over the top.

I guess its only those 9 that have won it 3 or more times that we could even considered (not grant as, but just consider) as legends. BUT, not wanting to go over the top (not to mention WAY over the top) I think that only guys with 4 or more Syds can be given the title of Club Legend. That leaves us with 4 Legends since 1929, that's pretty cool. (or is it over the top?)

This cannot be the only metric for deciding club legends.

Far to narrow and not all that reflective of what some brought.

Brady Rawlings won it 3 times, Barry Cable once, who is closer to club legend?

I completely agree, but if I added other metrics, such as like-ablity, coach-ability, or attitude at Wacky Wednesday I was worried I might be promoting guys into consideration of Legendary Status that just don't deserve to be there, and I'd hate to be accused of going over the top in my suggestions.

If its just playing days then playing less than 150 games makes it hard to warrant legend status, in my opinion. Cable was a legend of the game, and a very good player for us, but was he a legend of the club (as a player)? Winning the Syd suggests yes.

The Snoz however is Legendary, not matter which angle you stared at it from.

Turn it up. Syd medal is one measure of many which you've overlooked.

Wells has been an excellent player for us, no question about that - awesome to watch too when switched on.

However would you consider Wayne Schass a "legend" of the club? Because I wouldn't, and I have Schwatta in front of Wells as players.

as a player
Why does it have the stipulation of as a player on it.

Laurie Dwyer won it twice and is most certainly a legend of the club.

FWIW I don't consider Brady Rawlings a legend of the club.

Yeah I'd probably have Schwatta ahead of Wells too.

I still remember a massive bump in the '95 prelim (Peter Dean?) and another one that put Stephen Alessio in hospital, so on that basis I'd have him as a legend. :)

Just some more information on the compensation:

HAWTHORN will receive a second round draft pick for unrestricted free agent Matt Suckling.

Dual premiership player Suckling, 27, has signed a three-year deal with Western Bulldogs.

Based on Suckling’s age and the Bulldogs’ contract offer, the AFL has deemed the Hawks’ compensation as a second round pick, which currently stands at pick 39.
---------------------
"(The) AFL has advised West Coast that based on Selwood's age and Geelong's contract offer, (the) club will receive a round two compensation pick – currently pick 37," AFL spokesman Patrick Keane tweeted.

However, clubs with a net loss of free agents will only receive final confirmation of their compensation picks when the free agency window closes.
------------------
Leuenberger, 27, nominated the Bombers as his club of preference on Monday, and has now got there on a three-year deal.

After the Lions were told they would receive an end-of-second-round compensation pick (provisionally No.39) for the big man, they flirted with matching the Bombers' offer to force a trade negotiation, but ultimately declined.

Yep. Loved Schwatta - skillful and tough. Used his number in my (brief) footy days :thumbsu:

Peter Dean it was.

But we lost

Were we deluded? We did make 2 prelims in those 3 years.
I think we were. Was great to make those prelims and we all know its pretty hard to win a flag but i think the footy department overestimated our list and we fell pretty far short for mine. If the Pies take Mayne, Wells, Dal Santo i think they are doing exactly the same thing
