Also enlighten me as to the assistance they got making the said Finals, it can't be the fixture because the Hawks have had the hardest draw for years now.

Remember Ryan O'Keefe? Sydney have even more incentive to avoid trading with Hawthorn right now than they did back in 2008. They're not going to trade you one of their best young players and their best finals performer, not in a million years.

I would have thought most Hawthorn supporters would think Breust only was the second best at the club, let alone in the league.

But presumably you've gone on goal tally for 2016. But then if that's how we judge small forwards then we should judge midfielders by total disposals, which has Mitchell sixth best in the comp.

Or if we did average per game Mitchell would be 16th, but then Breust would be down fifth.

And considering most teams have four to six 'midfielders' compared to one dedicated small forward it makes a high ranking even more impressive.

Just to throw in some steak knives, Mitchell's also top ten for tackles.

He's a bit better than 40-50.

If we could get him and Prestia both in I'd be very happy.

Hawks have this years first round draft pick (14) and next years first as well to trade.
Combine that with what we get for Brad Hill.
There is also potential for some other player movement from the Hawks as well.
Mitchell and O'Meara are in my eyes both must gets for the Hawks to replenish our weakest spot the midfield and the contested ball.
O'Meara nominating the Hawks pretty much guarantees he will be a Hawk next year. All the chest beating from GC about sending him to the pre-season draft is just that chest beating. Throwing him to the pre-season draft is totally counter productive for them to do so.
1. They don't get anything in return for him, they can't afford to be losing players for nothing.
2. No player wants to go to GC as they don't treat their players with respect (not that many want to go there anyway in the first place).
3. Interested to know how GC members feel about letting him go for nothing to the PSD. He's gone anyway you look at it so you would want to get something in return and the club cutting it's nose off to despite their face won't endear a poor membership base any further.

Tom Mitchell. For me the signs are that he would be ok in staying but they cannot afford his asking price, as their salary cap is stretched too thin with big contracts to other players. If he was prepared to stay on reduced coin he would have signed by now, so for me he is on the move.
Sydney will want the best deal but a few things to note is, he isn't contracted, and isn't paid as one of their top players. Just because it's Hawthorn they are dealing with means nothing. Sydney didn't want to lose Mummy either but did for the same reason and they didn't really want him to go to their cross town rivals either, but he did.
Mitchell has been linked to a few clubs Hawks, Tigers and Blues.
Blues will trade their first round darft pick for a couple of GWS players.
Richmond will give up its first rounder for Prestia.

Hawks have the salary cap room to make good offers to both players.
So using a combination of pick 14 this year, next years first rounder, what we get for Brad Hill from Freo will allow us to trade acceptably for the 2 players in question. There are many scenarios of other clubs and players/picks being swapped to make deals happen as well. If necessary we might lose an ok player but I think these 2 deals will happen.

Also Vickery we will get for nothing. He has basically walked from Richmond and all the postulating from Richmond supporters about matching offers and stuff. Seriously!!!

Hopefully Roughy is back next year as well and that should put us in what would probably be our last year for the premiership window with all the old guys.

I don't think it will take overs just a fair offer but IMO both are worth 2 late first rounders Minimum. Hawthorn will need to offer at least 1 player worth a first rounder preferably to Gold Coast since they have indicated they want players not draft picks and Swans have a tight salary cap.

If Mitchell nominates the hawks (likely after the hawks coach was at the game probably to watch Mitchell) I can see these trade deals taking the entire trade period.

Pick 5 too valuable for us and Stewart is only an average player, we may as well give Jaksch/ Jones a game before wasting a pick on him. No chance in hell Mayne compo pick will be end of round 1, he would have to be in the top 10% of paid players in the league to get that. Breust and Rioli are both definitely elite at what they do. Breust is more like Eddie (though Breust spends a fair bit more time in the middle), Rioli is not much like Eddie.

I put Mitchell at 40th because I see him behind the top 2 mids at pretty much every club. It wasnt an exact ranking.

I'm only going off what has been reported. It was also reported that you guys have said pick 5 wont be traded at all. So it depends who you hear reporting, Sam McClure on Talking Footy last night said that Stewart would be the steak knives to get the pick 5 deal done. I agree with you guys though but how else do you get Marchbank in?

Based on the size of the RUMORED contract from Collingwood it is suggested that would be band 3 compensation which would give Fremantle a pick after their second round pick. Their second round pick would be 21 so they would get pick 22 on that logic

Just think about it. His value has gone up drastically since being arguably Sydney's best player of the finals; taking that into account, along with his reputation as a junior, there would be clubs willing to make a Treloar-like offer at this point. It would be absolute madness for Sydney to let him go for one of Hawthorn's late first rounders + steak knives, and that's if they even still have their picks after a possible O'Meara trade. It's not even a matter of principle at this point, Sydney could either let him go for far less than he's worth to both a bitter rival and a flag threat or to another Victorian Club for free and Hawthorn wouldn't get their gun midfielder.

This is one of those scenarios where letting him to to the PSD is better than the trade, assuming he refuses to be traded anywhere else (which I find dubious in this case). Bookmark this post, he will not be a Hawthorn player next year, no chance.

Makes you wonder what the Swans were thinking when they told you to **** off in the Ryan O'Keefe trade. That was such poor form on their behalf that he decided to re-sign and won a flag with them.

That was 2008, when Sydney weren't in flag contention and were still a while away. In 2016, they are in flag contention, and they face the prospect of trading one of their best young midfielders, and one of the best young players in the competition, to both a bitter rival and a flag rival that's desperate for midfielders. Never mind 'watching their image', they'd be ****ing themselves over completely, and it would be idiotic for them to take a couple of late first rounders in return.

Once again, your club will not get Tom Mitchell. Not a chance. 0%. They'll send him into the PSD before trading to Hawthorn; something I doubt he'll mind if he leaves because he'll get the contract he wants.

The 1-2% variation isn't the make or break for the Mitchell contract, and ONLY the Mitchell contract mate. What I'm trying to illustrate is clubs as professionally run as yourselves don't have contract negotiations sewn up for everyone bar 1 player then say "Oh shit. Sorry mate. We've organised everyone elses potential contracts within the minimum guidelines the AFL gave us, but we need to find out if we're given the extra 1-2% (100k-200k) they said we might get to be able to do yours. You mind waiting for something that might not even be finalised before your contract is up and trade period begins?" Especially a player the calibre of Tom.

The most comparable trade that has happened recently to Tom Mitchell would be Adam Treloar similar age, similar market value.

Collingwood gave up pick 7, pick 65 and future 1st round.. So 2 top 10 picks + change for Treloar and pick 28.

If Hawks want Mitchell i would think they will need to come up with something similar.. Not sure how that happens whilst getting JOM as well.
