The Brownlow is so shit.

McGovern got two votes. Two!?

Here are some names who had a better year than McGovern according to the umpires.

Stringer
Picken
Wood
Wallis
Stevens
Dalhaus
Johannisen
Hunter
and Bontempelli...

That's just from the Western Bulldogs. Going through the entire AFL and that list becomes huge!

Silly award. Amazing that it's the most prestigious in our game.

And Alex Rance had a better season than McGovern yet only got 5 votes (3 more than JM)

It's an award that favours excellence. So rather than rewarding those that are consistently good it rewards those that have stellar games.
So based off that I can see why he has less votes than some of those. Also why Merrett got nearly 20 votes. Was constantly Essendon's best and many times in the best couple in the game.

From the games I've seen of the Dogs I have seen Dahlhaus tear games apart. The first 3-4 games this season JJ was BOG. Regardless of the voting system Bont had a better season the McLovin. Period. Hunter had games where he was absolute clear BOG.

I agree with that's how the award is voted on. Which is a silly way. It's actually strange that someone can win the award by being the BOG in say 10 games but if he's utterly dire in the other 13, he can still win it.

I've come to hate the award, more so because it just rewards midfielders. It should be called the Brownlow Midfielders award. Nobody playing any other position can win it and never will.

The key forward who won the Coleman yes, he finished equal second with Priddis and behind Gaff. Two midfielders. He also was real close to winning, just 18 votes behind the midfielder that won it.

Most awards are midfielders awards. They generally are most responsible for winning games.
Last defender to win Ballon D'or was a decade ago.

I just hate the idea that the Brownlow is always won by a midfielder. Why is having 35 disposals better than say Franklin kicking 5 goals and having 14 touches. Or a defender like McGovern having 15 disposals, but he wins all his one on ones, has 12 marks including 7 intercept marks or something like that.

Particularly when mids pad their numbers so hugely nowadays.

for the record. No player averaged either.
So both aren't easy to attain consistently.

when was the last time a scrub like Fasolo got 35 touches... Cos damn he's managed 5 goals. Somehow.

You've again failed to acknowledge that Gawn and Riewoldt topped the votes for their respective clubs and with the way the game is currently played, most clubs' most important players are midfielders.

So no it doesn't need revamping.

It would be nice if a tall, in particular a ruckman or key forward won it again, but I think this years count with Gawn, Riewoldt, JJK and Lynch polling well suggests perhaps a tall may snag one again, something that hasn't looked like happening since McKernan and Grant were suspended 19 and 20 years ago.
