Johnson is on minimum wage and we couldn't risk another club grabbing him prior to our pick in the rookie draft. Rohan had a good season and is a required player.
Exactly, I know Rohan has gone missing in two big games but the hate for him astounds me sometimes. A gun 80% of the time.

Culture only lasts so long. Players like Hodge, Burgoyne, Lewis, Mitchell etc define that era, and unless you manage to do incredibly well recruiting wise, every dynasty falls eventually.

I'll be stunned in 2-3 years if the Hawks are still in the midst of the top four. Getting Mitchell and O'Meara and them being massive players for the Hawks would have to be the case, but I just can't see both ending up there.
Carlton is currently trying to import the Hawthorn culture itself via Bolton. No one is saying our grass will remain green forever, but at the moment there is no denying we would be seen in the top few clubs culture-wise, if not the top. That has allowed us to consistently get players in for less than they could get elsewhere, just like Geelong, and that allows us to stay high on the ladder.

I guess we Hawks fans get crappie when someone like you who knows nothing about our list wants to tell us we are on the way out ....just a hunch .
I know plenty about your list.

It remains to be seen if there's anyone there worthy of being capable replacements for Hodge etc. Right now it doesn't appear that way.

Question, why do hawthorn need a replacement for Hodge ect. Before they have retired and moved on?

Seems illogical, because how would we pay a Hodge ect. Replacement under the tpp if said player is the same quality.

Seriously think about it.

99% of the competition won't. Those are 3 of the best players to ever play the game.

This is where the Hawks will fall of the perch in a hurry. This is why Tom Mitchell would be on a hiding to nothing at the Hawks because if he is the head of their midfield when inevitably, they come down a few pegs & start missing finals, then being an ex Swan, Tom will become the scapegoat!

Clarko has been blessed to have these blokes as playing coaches for the last 6 years or so. They have been brilliant but are now irreplaceable!

Hawks won't offer 600, there is no chance they can afford JOM as well at that rate. Probably in the 500 range, with Sydney being in the 440k range. There will still be a gap, around $80-120,000, and it is up to Tom whether he wants the money or to stay with Sydney.

hahahaha love the way you put that - "up to Tom" hahaha I guess when he looks at Buddy on 1.6 mill and tippet on 1 mill he'll go - yeah I'll knock back 550 to play for 400 hahahahaha

Neither of those players are on the amounts you quoted.

Meanwhile, your players have banged on about "taking unders to keep the squad together" for years. I'm sure they'll be thrilled that Jaeger and Tom are going to come in as two of your highest paid players. If it's true that Jaeger will get 700, then he'd be close to your highest paid, right?

Really? I would probably say the reverse, a gun 20% of the time. The best ever game he played was against us at the SCG this year...

I love Hodgey as much as the next person. But the gentleman is right. We do need to find a replacement for Hodge. And Gibson, and Birchall and Burgoyne and even Lewis. I have stated many times in these threads, if in round 23 all of these guys are in our best 22 it means we will finish about where we did this year. For Hawthorn to improve we really need some of the younger guys to keep or legends out of the 22...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, stop spit-balling about what shape teams' salary caps are in. Nobody knows, you can't work it out from hearsay about player contracts.

I don't think there's any doubt Hawthorn would be offering more than Sydney. Mitchell would be Hawthorn's second best on-baller (behind Mitchell), he's Sydney's 4th/5th best.

But being second best will come with a lot of responsibility. He could be the type of player that loves the responsibility or he might decide he'd rather be the smaller fish in a more successful team.

Money will be a factor but so will many other things. I still wouldn't be surprised if he went for Carlton on much bigger coin than Hawthorn or Sydney are offering.

If I was a Hawthorn supporter, I wouldn't want Mitchell to be too money hungry, because he'll get more at places other than Hawthorn. Which is why I think it will be difficult for them to land him.

You tell others to stop spitballing, then you do a heap of it yourself.

Mitchell will either be a Hawk or stay a Swan. Swans know what they have to do to keep him, it's just whether they can.

Even if that was true (and that's a big if) he would still be on less than half of what buddy is on (...and 7 years younger to boot)

hahahahahaha
