I can imagine Shooter being asked if he wanted to play for Carlton and the words 'get stuffed' being said

Justin Reid wouldn't have even asked him.

Same as Charlie, no need to ask him as we are not trading him.

I imagine we have a deal in front of Carlton sometyhing like this "Pick 14 and a second round pick somewhere between 20 and 30 with something coming back our way depending on the second pick"

They now have tro accept it or convince Gibbs to stay.

Does anyone know if Lyons has done a medical at NM or GC yet? The Gibbs deal will hinge on the deal and then they will move 13 to GWS for a player or 2.

They will drop like dominoes

Im not getting this Cameron thing.

He looks like a pretty run of the mill small forward who hasnt exactly set the world on fire. Low disposal, fast, a few tricks.

Why the angst at the request? For what its worth, I'd rather a second rounder.
Cause he's going to move from being a small forward to in the midfield and he's the only bloke in our 22 who can actually outrun another player.

Top 10 B&F. Electric speed. Excellent tackler. Performed well even when the team didn't. Will push to midfield. Keeping.

So Carlton want cameron - http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-ne...on-for-bryce-gibbs-trade-20161011-grzunv.html

Honestly not sure I can see this deal getting done. Carlton aren't backing down

Not sure you understand how a negotiation works. Carlton ask for the moon knowing they won't get it but hoping that we'll offer more than they would've gotten if they hadn't asked for the moon. We say no and the trade period drags on and then as its getting near to having to get it done we offer a sweetener and Carlton desperate to finalise their other trades that hinge on using our pick 13, they agree. It's all making noises and huff and puff right now.

If all these suggestions are really coming from Carlton they are settling themselves up to really disappoint they're supporters.

I get going high and negotiation to something more reasonable, but they are going ridiculously high, and when the reasonable deal is struck it will look like they settled way too low.

We've seen how posters here freak out when any slight rumour if a player connected to us doesn't come off.
Pick 13 and Charlie cameron done deal

ahahahahaha. I would rather trade Jenkins (kicked 60 goals this year broooo he must be awesomeeee) than Cameron or McGovern. Why? Because what they'll produce in the future will be better than what Jerka has served up (IMO). Footy isn't about stats mate, if you watch them play you can tell Charlie is a big time player (steps up under pressure) and will be a star Jerka is not. Another reason is the fact that he's the only half decent player on in our best 22 with some genuine leg speed.

Yep. Totally agree.

We're not going to sell the farm for Gibbs. If Carlton plays hard ball they can keep him. I'm sure having a senior player on their list who doesn't want to be there will work wonders for their culture.
Problem as I see it is what's the alternative for the Crows? It seems pretty clear that the Crows are 1 A-grade midfielder short of being flag contenders. Getting a player like Gibbs in this trade period solves that issue for the next 4 years at least, since I think he has that much of his best football left and will continue to play on after that too.

Who else can the Crows get this trade period? Would you rather your club pay overs to get a contracted player across who fills a big need now or just hope for the best again in 2017?

If the Crows don't want to hand over their first pick and a quality player that fits a need Carlton has, then so be it. It would seem Carlton aren't interested in accepting a pittance just because Gibbs has requested the trade and rightly so. I doubt he will sit out a year of football in order to break his contract if no trade happens - he's too old to be risking this, plus there's no guarantee he will end up where he wants if he has to enter a draft again.

Hes our fastest player, our best tackler and stands up big time in finals. He is probably more suited to a midfield/wing role but hasnt yet acquired the tank to play there but by next year most people here believe he will and even our forward coach suggested he has lost him to the midfield group. Hes still a bit raw (coming to footy late from rugby/baseball) so its safe to assume hes still on an upward development trajectory.

We're probably 2 A graders short, so just chuck in Cripps and we'll buckle.

if carlton are just going to pass our pick onto GWS for marchbank, then why does it matter if its pick 9 or 13 or 20 or whatever we manage to turn picks/players into. as long as GWS accept it for marchbank then who cares what it is.

This could be post of the day. The post of the thread arguably after the breaking news.

Don't really see the point of having 8 more days where the next 7 will be very similiar to this.

Plenty of talk and no action.

Could cut it down to 7 days - not 10
Make it 3 and you have yourself a deal.

He'd be our only key forward after Casboult (instead of behind Walker and Betts) for a start.

That would make sense if he was playing SANFL. But he did play 23 out of our 24 games, he was rested for the other 1. So he's not really struggling for opportunity here, he's essentially doing on the job training in one of the most potent forward lines in the comp.

Now I'm not necessarily against trading Shooter. He's certainly not on our list of untouchables like a Lever or Crouch. But if Carlton wanted him I'd be suggesting that they probably need him to demand a trade himself. Because I doubt that we're going to put him on the table voluntarily.

We're short a midfielder, but we also aren't going to rob Peter to pay Paul and weaken other areas of our first 22 by sending out Lever/McGovern/Cameron.

Sending out a 1st rounder doesn't weaken our side now. Even sending out Lyons may not as they want to mix up the sameness of our midfield, which means Lyons will potentially be moved on. The picks will be there, but I don't see the Crows being super eager to accommodate any requests for those sorts of young players.

And if we don't get him? Then we move on and maybe go for Rockliff. Or make an offer to someone else, Gibbs isn't the only fish in the ocean.
