Just a plain old tall not a specialist ruckman? We have some of the best talls in key positions in the comp. Petire would just get in the way.
As mentioned earlier we are looking for a forward/ruck that can give us depth if needed. We dont want a proper ruckman. We will get Petrie if we cant find someone else but we are looking at what's out there.

This Petrie nonsense is just that. What about Gault? Surely, we would be a better option as a forward/ruckman - he showed some promise at the pies.

Gault is good size 200cm and only 23yrs old but gets trashed as useless on Magpies board though and now delisted ..

This is the bit I do not get. We should be replacing replacing NN as a backup for Giles and Lycett. I understand rucks should be able to rest forward and kick goals but you usually don't do it the other way around i.e. have a forward pinch hit the ruck if you already have 2 legit rucks who can go forward. We already have Darling and JK, this person would just be wasted spot on the field.

The only reason I can think of is they dont like playing 2 lumbering rucks together like Giles and Lycett. Mcinnes hasnt really come on as that pinchhitting forward so they want someone else.

Yeah could be, would be nice to have a bigman that can ruck a whole game ala Mummy, Goldstein

I've found it very hard to single out any player/deal that we could get done that has little impact on our drafting, yet also meets our list requirements.
Thoughts on a straight swap with the saints between Armitage and Mackenzie? Saints need KPD and we need mids...
Same age, experience, super contribution.
Could be mutually beneficial...

The thing is guys like mcginness havent been given much of a chance he,if he pulled his finger out he could just be the guy they want to fill in

Terrible? I think not. Swans were very happy to have him back, and he would certainly be an upgrade on the old-timer, Petrie.
We are talking about the same Gault, yeah? Nowhere near AFL standard.

So as it stands we still have 35 players on the main list, 2 rookies and 1 cat B rookie

Lamb looks like staying as does butler. Only other uncontracted player is brown who is "exploring his options" and is a strong chance to leave as a FA

If he doesn't then I won't be surprised if we look more seriously at offers for Mckenzie.

No other changes seem to be likely. That would leave up to 6 list spots and 2 rookie spots if we go to a main list of 40

Doesn't look like any trades coming in so -

Pick 12 - best available mid
Pick 33 - best available mid
Pick 51 - Jake waterman
Pick 69 - lucky dip (this could be 52 if we snag a 3rd round compo pick for brown). I'd like this to be Liam Ryan
Pick 87 - lols whoever
DFA - Drew Petrie

Rookies - Tim Goodwin and one other (Bailey Banfield I'd like just cos)

I don't really want to lose Mckenzie but if we want to position ourselves better in the draft he's the best (and possibly only) trading chip we have

While I'm glad we aren't trading in spuds (yet), I also wish we would trade out Mackenzie and Masten. Could have three second rounders in a strong draft.

Hmm
Masten has been put up for trade . So has Schofield Mckenzie and Brown . There have been no takers . Also Sam Mitchell has been talking to Simpson Hawthorn have offered him up .
As good as he is he only had 1 or 2 years at most left in him . I hope we dont waste our 2nd pick on him . Rather wait til next year then get him for nothing . Talks of him becoming a coach at West coast after he finishes

Sam Mitchell coming to West Coast next season.

Just reported on trade radio - WTF?? Didn't see that coming.

Playing next year and then coaching thereafter apparently.

Damo Barrett said this could still change.

Mitchell and Simmo best mates apparently. Seriously, what is going on? If we get him for free (in a trade sense) I'll be good with it.

Sam on SEN now - this is sounding like a go depending on a few other moves
I'm shocked to say the least

Should be very cheaply done as well, maybe upgrading your first rounder to ours?
