I dont know why SA born players think that anytime they want to come home to finish their careers and retire that the SA clubs will bend over backwards to accomodate them. Gibbs has had plenty of opportunity to come home when he was younger ( and out of contract ) but chose not to. Enjoy the mediocrity of the CFC for the next 4 years Bryce, we'll keep out picks.

At Carlton though, he's one of their best, so you can understand them wanting decent currency for a contracted player, and Crows supporters want to give up as little as possible, so i've tried to look at what most neutrals say, and 13 for Gibbs seems about right, plus a little bit of cream (2nd rounder).

I think supporters in general place to much importance in "he's contracted" or "his missus wants to go home". The clubs don't give a shit.

Footy clubs are still businesses, and players are still human beings for 160 odd hours they are not on tv each week. If the Gibbs move is being discussed by each club (which we know it is) they will just be thinking of what they give up and what they get and do they see value in something different to the other guy.

There's very little dick measuring going on between List Managers. They leave that to us.

One thing that will help Adelaide is that he plays pretty well in finals and has played in winning finals, something you couldn't really say for most of your mob.

Well that's your opinion. We traded Yarran for pick 19 and Tom Bell for pick 21 last year. Gibbs is a far superior player to both of them so I can understand why the club feels that pick 13 is insufficient for him

One of these players is a 3 times B&F winner.
One of these players is a captain.
One of these players won an afl poty.
One of these players has been AA.
One of these players will soon be announced as a rightful brownlow medalist.

Cool, so instead of pick 23, you can have pick 13. I'm sure we can agree that looking at their careers not much separates them (half an mark and an extra tackle per game), so paying a ten pick premium for Bryce as he's contracted to sweeten the deal is more than fair.

Adelaide made the decision to trade Bernie Vince, you could have probably got more for him if you really wanted. He never wanted to leave the Crows

Gibbs has said he wants to go to Adelaide, as far as Carlton are concerned, he is contracted until the end of 2019 and is a required player, if Adelaide want him then they will have to pay overs for him.

If a suitable trade that satisfies Carlton can't be reached, Gibbs will be back at Carlton next year or he can sit at home playing Xbox

No, Bernie Vince has had one or two A-Grade seasons but has mostly been a 4th or 5th midfielder.

Gibbs has been a consistent A-Grader over his career.

Carlton have had depth issues the entire time he has been at the club. Chris Judd was our most prolific player the time he was there and naturally Gibbs and Murphy have been our 2nd and 3rd mids.

Perhaps there have been examples for uncontracted players or free agents but Gibbs is a contracted player, who is very much required by the club.

You can think it is crazy all you want, your club was overzealous in announcing Gibbs wanted to come home before having preliminary discussions with Carlton; gauging how realistic a trade would be. You've backed yourself into a corner.

We're not just evaluating the trade on emotion, we're looking at other intangible factors, many of which have already been discussed

1. Contracted until 2019. We've reiterated we're happy to retain him should a trade not eventuate.
2. Provides leadership and experience in a midfield group bereft of it. Is required not just for his footballing ability but also his mentorship and guidance.
3. Crows need to inject a player of his calibre right away before GWS, The Bulldogs and Sydney get too far ahead. They know the opportunity is now.
4. The Crows back out and they've let their supporters and members down. Rarely do they get a gun asking to come home and if they cannot organise a trade there will understandably be some dissent.

I agree, given in previous drafts we have picked up Talia at 13 and Jake Lever at 14. Hell, we even drafted Dangerfield with pick 10. Its not the size of the pick, its the way you use it
