I see three good players with our first 3 picks ... id have liked earlier but what we have is what we have. ... CT has us as a probable of drafting Battle
Do you think that he could be a KPF?
He appears a little on the short side for a KPP, unless he has more growth in him.

Id be just be throwing darts in the dark to espouse absolute thoughts on him. Id have to say he looks efficient rather than dynamic from what I have seen.. so it concerns me when guys like that have to step up. To me he is a part of the puzzle but not a player you could build a forwardline around.. so we could draft him and still be looking for that young strong player.Maybe I have seen more I like in Kerr.. although he is slightly taller Im not convinced he is future KPF lock either. His kicking is a little flakey but nothing what id call bad.. and I like that he could at his height play small.

But if im reading our coaches biases correctly ..its all about mobility and running. If thats the case it would not surprise me if we looked at Sproule.

The truth is considering the level of play .. we should consider someone like House. He has shown ability at VFL level. I think with a more profession time application he could be a good option for us. Again hard to judge his running capabilities when he looked a tad off AFL fitness.

I think 17 prospects look more legit KPP's.

Ideally we get better than depth but rucks are a risk high in the draft so lets go late or rookie and see if we can develop one into a good player. I just want real ruck depth at least Blitz is a 2nd ruck not a first and I don't want to go back to the days of West/Walker pinch hitting types if we get injuries. With Kersten Vardy Read Lucey and probably Clark off the list I think we have room to spend one spot on a ruckman.

I have been an advocate of always having a Rookie ruckman on the list for sometime.. although looking at some other clubs , there has been enough success that drafting small guys that are passed over just on their height is a value way to go.
There were a few ruck options if we want an u18 kid , I doubt most of them will be taken early.

Can someone please explain the Father Son rules...

Assume we have a F/S prospect, let's use S Simpson as an example, let's say the following scenario's:

1. 1st Round Bid - Unlikely. Does that mean we must use our next available draft pick in the second round to match, or does it mean we cannot match and that we have lost him in the bid?

2. No bids - Probably likely. Does that mean we can draft him with our last selection at the National Draft? Or can we choose to use a rookie selection (or by pushing him to a rookie selection, then he will be subject to rookie draft - eg no father son rule in the rookie draft)?

The reason I ask this, is the Hawks are after Jarman in the national draft, but their first selection is at pick 88, so if someone chooses to bid in say 2nd/3rd round, then does that mean they cannot obtain him even if he nominates Hawthorn?

If the Hawks can get him with an under-bid, and they really want him, then it was very smart of them to use their draft picks for trades in this case...

Height is overrated in kpfs (unless they need to be 2nd ruck). Tex walker tom lynch (adel) jack riewoldt pavlich gunston jarryd roughead hogan jay schulz etc have all been good key fwds 195cm or below. Ability is more important.

Basically wherever the bid is you have to match that minus 20% discount and it comes from your next pick. If your next pick is worth more points than you need the leftover points give you a pick at the back of the draft. In hawks case they can go into deficit on next years points so if a third round gets bid in him their 3rd round next year gets pushed back equivalent to the points needed.

I agree. I'd be surprised to see Battle fall to 24 unfortunately (should have traded Caddy for.....nevermind). His skills by foot are exceptional. Seems to have a good footy brain too. Thinks quickly. Appears at this stage to have quite a few more strings to his bow than Kerr.

Kerr looks like an old-school power forward, not sure how agile he is, might lack the tricks that Battle might have. I think Kerr could easily slip into the 30-40s range in the draft. Kerr has the potential to develop into a strong frame, just don't know if he has the agility/speed to offer some versatility up the ground.

I'd agree with that. Not sure whether Kerr will fall that far but who knows?

The players that interest me at this stage include Battle, Kerr, Hayward, Witherden, Cox, Powell-Pepper and Ridley. Would love to grab two of them but I thinks that probably a tad unrealistic.

Both seem to be good marks of the footy and read the flight very well from what i have seen. Battles advantage is his endurance which means he could play 2nd or 3rd tall and up the field whereas i think kerr is mainly a close to goal player. As hawkins gets older and less mobile it would be handy for us if the 2nd tall can cover a lot of ground. But either would be fine enough.

I don't mind Sam Walker SA, left foot, intercept marking HBF... We should be able to snare him with a pick over the 40s... But knowing Wellsy, with a pick that late, he'll probably go someone we won't know.

Jarrod korewha really stood out last year, and made the academy. Might have been his pony tail, he just screamed wells type, could play both ends.
Was in the academy but has dropped right off this year.

He and Drew played in the Hampden league grand final after north Ballarat finished for Koroit and the both performed well ( Drew was better). End of last year he was rated top 25-30 for this years draft, but has crashed hard. Would be a good rookie pick for us.

What about Bailey Morrish? Looked ok in that all-Stars game as a long kicking small back prospect too.

There is a 20 % discount though so if say pick 56 is bid on simpson which is 194 points we only need 156 points to match and if our picks move up e.g. if 7
2 and 74 become 65 and 67 on draft night that is 159 points which matches it. We can also go into deficit to match if we need to.

I thought you had said that already , I don't want to hit home the flush nail... the deficit is round relative I believe.

I really think Wells would be a big fan of Luke Strnadica from WA. He's a 199cm key forward/ruckman with brilliant athelticism and agility.

The bonus is that he suits our needs with Vardy heading over to WCE, and that he'll probably be available at one of our later picks due to him being a 'project player.'

I was unimpressed by his competitiveness in the champs games... what did you like about him GHS33

Now with Clark gone... 100% certain we will go the best forward available in the draft with pick 24. Battle Cat has a nice ring to it. But something tells me he will be gone, and we'll end up with Kerr.

Didn't see much of the champs this year but he was good as a KPF bottom age in the 2015 champs.

I think he looked more promising last year.... I think forwards need to be able to make an impact , be influential. He lacked it this year. At his height one would think he is going to be a part time ruck at afl level unless he is specially talented.

Hope we take a kpf. List update with clark gone today down to 33 on senior list. If we want to run at 38 on the senior list then we would now have enough room for 4 draft picks plus sam simpson so we might not delist anyone else.

He appears a little on the short side for a KPP, unless he has more growth in him.
Looks Jack Darling sized. Looks big enough to me, given there'd be room to add bulk.

Based on what I've seen it seems like he doesn't know his way around a football field.
