Won $600 betting on the election, called it months ago. Was absolutely shocked this morning seeing his odds at $6 right as Florida was swinging so threw a bit more on, glad I did. People are sick and tired and the anti-establishment movement is a global one, watch right wing leaders begin to get elected all over the world. Those bewildered or shocked by the result have been walking around with your eyes closed, speak to real people there are reasons parties like One Nation are gaining traction, there is a reason Brexit happened and now Trump, whom as I have said before won't even be that bad (See how much he's toned it down this week) greatest use of media manipulation I have ever seen. We live in a world were any publicity is good publicity, these scandals and outrageous things he said were all a ploy to get his name out there against the Clinton money machines advertising campaign. I am so stoked I have so many but hurt friends around me who have all finally admitted how right I was about the whole thing. Unless we get serious here and start discussing issues instead of belittling and lecturing those with legitimate fears and concerns we will end up with hard line right wing politicians in charge. By the way Trump won't build the wall I'm calling it now.

Would you have to be crazily cynical to think that much of the Trump vs RNC antagonism was calculated theatre? Allowed Trump to keep courting the anti-establishment vote while allowing the RNC to soothe their base and protect their down-ticket candidates? Kudos on the play of that was it.

I'm not so bothered by four years of Trump. The biggest disaster is Supreme Court. Scalia's spot straight off the bat... and a few other aging justices on the bench. Hang in there Ruth B-G.

The only real hope in that department is if Trump has the self-respect to drop the pretence he is a real conservative and nominate centrist judges. The RNC house and senate would not cop that without a big fight though.

I think you're spot on there mate. The Trump camp has been much better strategically then Clinton was.

Very important to analyse why Trump got the absurd amount of support he did. A lot of disgruntled non college educated white males in rust belt states swung to Trump for fear of their jobs and their way of life to foreigners, Trump got Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania for this reason, nobody thought he could do that, the RNC couldn't believe he even bothered going to Wisconsin, these are blue collar democrat bread and butter. College educated males under 30 swung to republican in record numbers, why?? Alt-right movement and anti-feminist movement? Young men graduating college in America have 2-1 disadvantage at getting a job as equally qualified females as companies look to rectify gender disparities, That's driving a big anti-feminism push from young males.

Why any women, hispanics and blacks voted Trump I have no idea, but it's very interesting to note the massive discrepancy between exit polls and actual votes from females. The female exit polls were massively towards Clinton yet the actual votes didn't follow. So a lot of women weren't comfortable telling exit pollers that they voted for Trump - very interesting and very telling

Democrats lost the unloseable. Hopefully it will be the wake up call the party needs.

I'm surprised it wasn't higher. From my experiences no one dislikes illegal immigrants more than legal ones - source my family are all legal immigrants and all extremely anti boat people. Christ they'd give Pauline a run for her money, some of the shit I've heard them say.

History suggests it was going to be difficult for Hillary to win today. Since 1951, when the two term limit for Presidents was ratified, only once has a party been elected for a 3rd successive term - and that was Bush Snr who rode the wave of Reagan's popularity all the way to the top job. But other than that it's been almost entirely two terms for a party, not just the candidate, and then they're voted out.

Yeah. Those living in the US legally are sick of being lumped in with the 'illegals'. Also I reckon you get a bit of 'old immigrants resisting newcomers'. They have the most to lose.

Apparently Trump did better than Romney with the Hispanic vote in a few states. Democrats would have thought Trump receiving 1/3 of the vote impossible going into the election.

It's not just the way they went after Sanders (it really was deranged), it's the fact that they went to such lengths to discourage anyone else from having a real crack at the nomination. Clinton was given the nomination on a platter, and she still couldn't beat an old socialist who had been an independent for most of his career. Sanders or a generic democrat would've won that election for sure.

I don't think there was ever any real attempt to actually give people a reason to vote for Clinton. No attempt to discuss policy at all, no lessons learned from the issues Sanders pushed her on. Slay kween, khaleesi, celebrities, Trump is bad, Trump is really bad- great campaign, 10/10.

Trump isn't a true Republican other than notionally. Let's see what his congressional colleagues think about his policies on trade, protectionism and outsourcing. And that's just on the economic side. I really don't believe he is as socially conservative as he professed to be in the campaign either.

You do wonder how much of what he has said will be wiped away by his own party as election rhetoric and subsequently binned. So many of his policies are completely against what the republican party actually stand for and the Australian notion of you follow your leader in politics doesn't really apply the same way in the USA given the president isnt a part of any of the houses. Not to mention in complete contradiction of each other. I mean here's a guy who's saying that he will introduce tariffs to get manufacturing back in the USA, yet at the same time wants to give people access to drugs produced outside of the USA to lower costs for people. ummmmmm.........

Already they've said they won't be forming the illegal immigrant squads he talked about and of course there's never going to be a wall built.

Overall the american people will soon find out that they've largely voted for a sham campaign that won't actually deliver on most of its promises. They'll be angry and looking to blame someone, and will only find themselves to blame. Trump of course will blame the republican party for not letting him do the things he's promised and won't care because at the end of the day he's got nothing more than a very loose affiliation with them in any real terms.
