Ok so he is exciting, we are all raving about him etc ... so why wouldn't we minimise the risk and take him first pick in Rookie draft or at least take him with one of our pass picks on Friday? Are we so sure no one will bid and risk us using Cat B for nothing - hopefully you get my point

I doubt he will be selected tomorrow.
Doesn't appear to on anyone's radar.
Hence we can take him as Cat B after the draft.
The only point I'm not clear on...if he isn't drafted tomorrow, then are we 100% committed to drafting him as Cat B or could we still decide to pass?
The fact that we have nominated him, leads me to believe we have to take him??

Although Richmond nominated 5 players (3 were drafted on Friday).
If the 5 players were not drafted, then they would only have room for 3 Cat B rookies.
Hence couldn't fit all 5 into their list.
Time will tell.
I have the answer...even though clubs nominate their next generation academy players (by end August this year), the club is not obliged to add that player to their list after the rookie draft.
If we wish, we lodge paperwork straight after the rookie Draft to secure as Cat B rookie OR we can simply do nothing & pass on the player.
We can also add any AFL nominated next generation academy players after the rookie draft, by gaining the players consent & lodging the paperwork with the AFL.
Clubs can also decide to add other club nominated players, if the original nominating club decides to pass on them.
So we can possibly add 2 Cat B rookies this year (total 3 is max, we already have Cox).
Perhaps we Cat B rookie another indigenous player, so we bring in 2 to assist with settling in/negating some of the home sickness & culture shock.
Roll the dice on another? I like the name Jamaine Jones. List below:

AFL nominations
Mading Atem (Multicultural),
James El Moussalli (Multicultural), Kenny Ong (Multicultural),
 Jai Rout (Indigenous),
 Darren Allen (Indigenous),
 Jamaine Jones (Indigenous),
 Thomas Jok (Multicultural),
Goy Lok (Multicultural),
 Cedric Cox (Indigenous),
 Francis Watson (Indigenous)

Overlooked I think. TD decided to start a new thread for some odd reason.

Well I thought we Nominated as Cat-N Rookie as he was not Picked he goes Straight on the Cat B List

Club has to actually lodge paperwork and confirm they're taking him mate. He doesn't actually go straight on our list, we just have the option of taking him if we want to.

I guess so, unless something dramatically changed in the past 2 months.
I assume we will lodge paperwork & confirm him soon.

Maybe the way the draft fell by taking 3 small forward types in Brown, Daicos and Kirby makes him being added excess to needs now.

It's a bit puzzling that we're not hearing anything about players being snapped up as Category B Rookies, now that the Rookie Draft has been completed. This suggests it should have happened by now, though Final List Lodgement is Wednesday 30 November at 2pm (according to the 2016 AFL Draft Booklet):-

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-09-05/tigers-eyeing-off-kayle-kirby-as-a-category-b-rookie

The AFL has approved the full list of 33 players and circulated it to clubs last week. Under the newly formed rules, clubs will be able to list the players as category B rookies if the prospects are overlooked at the national and rookie drafts.

The club will need to lodge relevant paperwork immediately after the rookie draft on November 28 to secure the multicultural or indigenous talent.

If the relevant club does not choose to take the player as a category B rookie, or if they are an AFL nomination and are not selected in the rookie or national drafts, then any club can list the player as a category B pick.

However, the player has to give his consent before it is confirmed in that case.

Guess we will find out in the Next 24 Hours.

Something Bad must happen IF we did not take Him

As another poster pointed out, we weren't committed to taking him, we just gave ourselves the option to pick him up as a Category B Rookie, and it might still happen. Essendon nominated 6 such players (one was taken by Sydney), and they pretty obviously weren't going to take all of them as Cat. B Rookies even if no-one else drafted them.

True but with us just picking Him makes me think we seriously wanted him

Hope it still happens. It would be a good way to show the people in the Barkly region that we're prepared to give them a chance. At the very least he could help our VFL side and he just might turn into a player.

I reckon if we took him we would've heard by now, but the club isn't going to put a tweet out saying they aren't taking him, so I think you're right and we passed.

Well it's 4:30 when it finished so might of been to late to do anything and be announced.

Find out Tomorrow
