Fair enough. i knew he was a free agent. I guess they just skipped the formalities of making an offer and adelaide matching.

I know it sounds stupid to turn down Dangerfield, even at the cheap price of 2x top 30 picks and a kid. And it wouldnt have been had they not pursued so many other costly targets.

They bradbury'd that PF and 2nd spot in the end.
And 2017 will see a harsh reality set in. They dont have depth. And 2 players arent going to carry them to success.
2016 they nailed ... no getting around that. But if we are talking about 2017 - it will definitely give the Cats new challenges, most probably because they have lost so much talent and experience from retirements of Bartell and Enright. I don't think the choices made in the trade period of 2015 will influence 2017. The other factor is the fixture, how tough will it turn out after a really good run in 2016? Time will tell.

Even Caddy. He may not be a star, but he was their 3rd best mid.

They do get the advantage of playing in Geelong, and playing a lot of interstate teams there.
thats worth some wins.

But given you have GWS, Adelaide & Sydney as the top 3 lists in the comp, West Coast getting better, Freo set to rebound, Dons with an easy draw and a lot of class returning, the Dees and Saints knocking on the door, Port building their depth and reigning Premier full of confidence, top 8 will be hard to get into unless you are on all season.

The 8 is always hard to get into ... but some of those sweeping statements above will look strange when you look back at them in 12 months - guaranteed.

I reckon the Bulldogs might get into the "top list in the comp" discussion ... and calling out Freo / Essendon / Power as the teams that will bounce up the ladder is also a mighty tough one to see happening. Dees and Saints are improving, but so are so many other teams.

It's a fun exercise - but I would not be getting to hung up on November predictions for next year :-)

Obviously im a Richmond supporter and may be accused of being biased, but i don't understand why you would trade our possibly your 3rd best mid in caddy to then draft a small 179 midfielder and a mature vfl player with there other high pick. Odd imo

He wasn't in our best half a dozen mids hence why he didn't play through the midfield on a regular basis.

And I'd back Emma Quayle's opinion of Parfitt over a mugs on an Internet forum, where he was ranked as the 10th best player in this draft and considered a steal.

Parfitt Can play im not saying thats a bad selection, however some of the other mature age picks are odd considering the fantastic depth of the draft and the amount of inside mids on offer the cats could have picked.

If anyone is hurting from Prelim losses Griffen trumps Danger.

Eventually the probability of playing in a Grand Final comes Ryan Griffen's way ( you would think/hope for GWS fans)

We don't specifically need inside mids, that's our strength.

We needed a couple of tall forwards, a backup ruckman and some speed. We drafted for needs.

Caddy, whilst a goodish footballer, and a player I would have preferred to keep, was far from our 3rd best mid. That was most evident from the fact he rarely played as a mid. Ahead of him were Danger, Selwood, Guthrie, Blicavs with Menagola and S.Selwood coming into the middle late in the year in preference to Caddy. That is a fact.
Now, that could be partially because he was a crafty goal kicker (averaging about one per game with 20 touches), or alternately it could be because in close his body movements are a bit slow. He lacks elusiveness and agility in packs etc. Whilst time stands still for Pendleberry, it speeds up for Caddy. Its always been my knock on him. Watch him closely next year, you'll see. He'll be better served as a forward flank with a small amount of mid time.

There's nothing surprising about the types of player we brought in, just the quantity of them that were mature age and from our VFL side. We absolutely needed another ruckmen, Abbott while unknown makes sense, we needed KPF depth losing three mature fringe players in Clark, Kersten and Vardy. House might be expected to play some AFL this season with Ratugolea more of a project. We were also abysmal running the ball out of the backline, both Stewart and Touhy address that.

Caddy was a luxury, all season out of position as a forward and it only got worse as the season progressed. It makes sense to replace him with more natural small/medium forwards in Narkle/Parfitt even if it temporarily hurts us a bit short term. I wanted Deledio but it made sense not to replace Caddy with inside mids considering Scott Selwood only played his first game round 20 and Menegola didn't play til round 18. An injury free pre-season from these two pushes Caddy further down the pecking order and he wasn't really in the mix to begin with.

Our midfield last season was:
1. Dangerfield
2. J.Selwood
3. Menegola
4. Guthrie
5. Bartel
6. Caddy

You could also argue Scott Selwood and Blicavs were ahead of him in midfield as taggers and that the club will be looking for Cockatoo to take over his role next season.

He'll have more hurt in 2017. The clear top tier are GWS, Bulldogs, Swans (that order). Geelong a significant step below with the likes of Adelaide and Hawthorn.

Everyone has been plotting our downfall for 10 years. Maybe we are better at this football thing than you numbskulls give us credit for.

Caddy was easily replaceable, we wouldn't even play him in the midfield, and Bartel was cooked. Enright was the big loss and he has been replaced with 3 guys who can play that position, Tuohy, Thurlow back from injury and Stewart, who was well above VFL level last year and is capable of slotting straight in.

Cats the only team we didn't beat this year. No surprises he is spewing

If it wasn't for injuries at Cat Park I reckon you might have got that one. You nearly did anyway in the end. As for 'the pain' unless it hurts the players who didn't turn up that night then there is more on the way.

Duncan and blicavs played more midfield then bartel or caddy.

Geelong get to play interstate sides at their home sometimes. Wow what an advantage. Only every other side in the comp have the same advantage. Pity we rarely get to play melbourne sides at our home and almost always play them at their home.
