:) Sorry but i just can't see it. A few years ago I was hopeful but he hasn't improved. Has actually gone backwards. People get excited by the odd "highlight" but he has NEVER dominated a game or even played some consistent football. We have some really exciting talent that now needs the same opportunities he had
Understand and agree. Still think he has a role to play as a forward and second ruck. Still draws the best defender which helps the kids get into the game.

Not necessarily the best option next year, absolutely the best option for this season.

Hoping Jack, Harry and one of Charlie or Marchbank/Weiters or whoever they throw forward make him redundant if he can't fix his kicking woes. Until then, he is still an option as no one has gone past him.

I'm really looking forward to a modern day forward line of McKay as the big target. Maybe supported at times by 2nd ruck (Rowe or Gorringe) Silvagni & Charlie and then a small like Wright or Le Bois and the mids of Gibbs Cripps Fisher Murphy SPS Polson Cuningham Kerridge all pushing through there. Possibly Weitering Macreadie & Marhcbank having a go at times. Real flexibility, talent and excitement that could make us a tough side to play against

We will just have to disagree. ;) Never seen it actually play that way. Can't ruck at all and has no engine. As for best defender I watched him closely live this year and when one on one they push a tall back on him and then use others to run off him. It was too easy and a reason we were the worst at kicking goals from entries inside 50. There was a reason he took a one year deal on very low money this year. No one wanted him and there is a clear reason why

I don't think they have to go past him. I just think they need to be played for the experience and the potential for the future. We are rebuilding

I'm going to say silvagni. The big brute forwards seem to be a thing of the past to an extent. If you're a tall forward you have to be able to either work high up the ground (Riewoldt for example) or play second ruck (Boyd), not just play in the forward 50.
Look at the likes of stringer, Tory Dickson, picken. A mobile forward these days can do a lot of damage and I think next year silvagni will have maybe one or two games next year where he will kick a mini bag. Yes casboult takes the main defender but his contribution on the scoreboard is embarrassing.

Gotta be McKay. If he can play 15 games and develop without issue, solves a lot of our problems.

Agree with this.

If Harry develops as hoped we will not only be able to move past having to play Casboult, but we may also see the end to the 2 ruck experiment.

Any developing tall forward is equally important.

serious question. is it that important these days?

look at the last decade of premiers. games I went to this year it was very interesting to see how they lined up. sides were definitely going with more mobile forward lines and lots of rotations. sides were just pushing up into different quarters of the ground. bulldogs & gws seemed to do it the best.

just a hypothetical but i believe its one key reason sides like the swans, geelong, west coast, north & the crows fell away in the finals. these sides have taller forward lines and less flexibility especially through the midfield. how many big key forwards had a real impact in september? i'm not an expert but watching a lot of games live this year it's very much how it looked to me.

I went against the majority and picked Liam Sumner.

I am very confident in big Harry and also believe that Patrick Kerr might surprise a few. So we seem on track to at least improve our big man stocks.

The medium mobile forward division of, Jack, Charlie, Billy, Matty, etc also seems on track to improve significantly.

However we are still desperate for small forwards to kick a couple a game, provide more options for the transition game, and scare the willies out of any back-man who thinks about playing on. Our forward line pressure simply MUST improve if we are to improve as a side, If either of Jed, Liam or both can provide this for us I think that we will be very competitive next year.

Anyway that's my reasoning.

As for Levi, the only reason that he attracts a good defender, is so that defender can rebound all day long. Levi has simply NO hurt factor at all. In my opinion the only role that Levi should have in the team next year, is languishing in the 2's as an example to the young guys, that if you can hit certain standards with regard to application and skills that you will not play.

Hell, I'd rather play Jones, at least I've seen him chase and shepherd a few times.

I don't rate Lamb as a forward but I think a fit Sumner could do well. We have Matty Wright who's more than handy. I have confidence that LeBois Fisher Polson SPS Kerridge Palmer Pickett will be able to fill that role at times. No one is a lock yet but nice to now have options. With the improved midfield maybe Murphy can play up forward as well. Underrated as a goal sneak.

I can see Harry missing out on the first half a dozen games of this coming season... getting a bit more development work in the VFL before coming into the side around round 7 or 8. Regardless of, Casboult is always going to have a place in the side as the main attraction for the opposition's best defender.

Later on in the year as Harry gets more experience in the senior squad, I can see opposition clubs trying to work out which one they want to play their best defender on.

I think that the only way that Casboult will be on our list next year is if he has a stellar year and kicks 40+ goals. And even then, he might exercise his FA rights and move to another club chasing a big contract so he still might not be on the list next year!

if that is such an issue as many think (i don't) would Rowe be a better option as that big forward? no star but certainly a better kick, better 2nd ruck, better defensively and smarter reader of the play, good mark as well. with the defence having so many options we can afford him to go forward. came to us as a forward and adds to our flexibility as well. can go back (swapping with marchbank or weitering) forward or ruck. casboult can only really play forward

The midfield will always be a big reason why teams win but good tall forwards can make it much easier.

Hopefully in time McKay-Curnow-Silvagni can be our Boyd-Stringer-Dickson/Crameri
