Why is that 10 year old girl given more news coverage than all the other people who died on Friday? I get that it's a kid but I don't really see it as more important than any of the others who were killed they are equally as unable to avoid the situation.

The media work by attempting to trigger as much emotion out of stories as possible...thats why whenever any tragedy is reported on, the always highlight if a woman/child/elderly person was involved to gauge emotional response.. Happens all the time.

e.g how often do you hear "10 people were killed in the disaster, including an 80 year old woman and a 2 year old boy" yet never "including a 35 year old man" etc
