You guys clearly haven't been talking to Sydney fans. He's a downhill skier who would have been pushed out of their side this year anyway. You'll notice he only played well when Kennedy had done the heavy lifting.
Like last year's GF when Tom was the only CoLA mid to fly the flag.

Not a bad call there mate.
If he is a midfield player, let's see.
There are better options in defence IMO.
He has had good games in defence... I had to say that before I got a whack from somewhere:)

Good games as a defender are pretty rare tbh, he can look like he is having a good game because he does desperate things and has courage but the amount of times he loses his opponent in the air, on the ground and in general play is significant. Defensively there's better options, but like I said I feel like he is at the point now where he is like "free me, let me attack".

Whilst you need to have a defensive aspect as a mid, the game allows you more than ever to sag off direct opponents and express yourself a bit. He could be a bit of a weapon.

My thoughts/observations on today's practice match. Intensity was high and many very good tackles laid and JOM was not spared and nor was Roughy. To me the pleasing thing about this was that both played out the whole game indicating both are in pretty good shape. To those who choose to believe what they hear on SEN or elsewhere, goodonya, but I know what I see for myself.

Roughy; played fwd and in the midfield. He was as good as he has ever been. Great hands and superb with the clearances. Great marking and accurate kicking for goal.
Fitzy; Rucked and went forward where he took several really good marks and kicked accurately. Shows what 12 months in the Hawthorn system means.
Sicily; played back and was very very good. Clean by foot and hand and provided great dash.
Gunners; HE played on the wing, not JOM. He was probably BOG.
JOM; played in the midfield. Exciting to witness his work in and around the packs. Exquisite the way he moves, finds a player to advantage and manages to get the ball away even under heavy physical contact. A keeper I reckon.
Langers; better today but a long way to go yet. Cleaner one grabs but still under pressure when he has the ball hence not so good disposal by foot
Billy; not impressive but more direct running. Lots of occasions when teammates were yelling "run Billy run"
Connor Glass; he was very good. Lots of the ball, generally good disposal AND made lots of excellent football decisions. He has really come on in leaps and bounds. Many of the senior players made the effort to applaud him for his good work.
Vickery; very good in patches. Did a lot of rucking but when opposed to BB, BB would give TV a slight bump causing TV to be slightly out of position and give BB the advantage. But TV is really only just learning the ruck craft and based on what I saw today I think he will be useful in the ruck and could develop as did Hale.
BB; very solid game rucking and around the ground

Of the others Doc played as a mid but has a bit to learn (hurt his shoulder just before 3/4 time and didn't play the last). Stratts, Cyril, Hodge, Punky, Frawley, Schoe, TOB (fwd), Burgers etc.....they're old hands and just know what to do and did so easily.

Overall the game was scrappy at times but there were bursts of brilliance too. Some transitions from deep in defense to a fwd in the sweet spot 20 out was great to see. This was the first serious hit out for months so some skill errors and also there were quite a few out there who are learning the way Hawthorn play with the 2017 modifications.

Finally I spoke to Ratten after the game and asked him if he was happy and he replied enthusiastically with a BIG grin "VERY"

I know I've missed a few but it's very difficult to watch 40+ Hawthorn players in different jumpers and no numbers. So tuff T**ty if your favorite player hasn't been mentioned. I can only do my best.

Thanks, Number 24. Fantastic report - lots of exciting excerpts there. Really intrigued and excited to hear about Gunner on the wing.

If you remember, or had the chance to watch him a bit, what role did Kade play and how did go?

Love it mate, thank you for taking the time to write up a report.

He played fwd. At the risk of being yelled at I will state the obvious.....I haven't singled him out for individual mention so he didn't really catch my attention. Maybe when there are only 18 Hawthorn players out on the park and not 36 at a time, I might be able to notice more !!!!

all good, its hard enough working out who is who under all the hats half the time

Conor Glass has some skill, sneaky Mitchell like tunnel ball on the wing.

And he was doing a little Connor McGregor arm wiggle in the training video as well. A bit of hot Irish attitude is always appreciated on the field.

How did they go?

Please give us some uplifting news!

Hartung started on the bench for the red team. When he came on his role was to run with the ball as N24 has already stated. And he did have a few 20m runs and kicked the ball a fairish way forward. It was all straight line stuff with no subtlety unlike a Hill who'd dance around and caress the ball to a target on his better days. But that is Hartung's go currently, he is not an elite passer of the ball but he can roost it a fair way so his best role it having a shot for gola from 40-50m on the run, which he did not do to today. I think he needs to understand his role and develop some confidence in it, and he'll be good but it is a fair learning curve for him. His game was good to serviceable.

Langers for the blue team, won, by my count three clearances in the centre in the first and another early in the second quarter until the red team got a bit better organised at the bounce. He was instrumental in getting blue of to a very good start in the game. It that was all you'd judge him by then he was very good. Unfortunately some of his disposal was rushed or hurried, and that limited his effectiveness. He got picked off by Burton when he tried to square the ball from the wing which was a lack of threat detection. His ability to get to the ball and win it has not deserted him but his disposal and or option selection still lets him down.

If you want uplifting news Roughy was brilliant. His marking was superb as was his kicking. Gunners was pretty good as well. Bruest was excellent up forward as an opportunistic small and may have kicked three or so.

Nice report.

If TOB is a mainstay in our 22 I'd be 1. Surprised and 2. Despondent about our chances. Surely he is 3rd/4th in line on our depth charts for any possible position he could play (does he actually have a said position?).

JOR will play the 2nd JLT match, probably good to go now but being super cautious.

Great to see Ruff and the Jaegar bomb playing, surely JOM getting through these intra club matches will mean a few JLT matches and all things equal a debut in round 1!

thanks very much for the right up.. while its still only a scratch mate diff to play real team.. quick comment from your observation..

sicily- very interesting ala peter knights... im sure he will be used at both ends but imagine him using that leap then dash off half back with his kick.
gunners- i actually see playing alot on a wing depending on teams... our fwd line is packed anyway similiar to matthew richardson, roo role then running into fwd line kick 30-40 a season.

lastly jom, the bloke a jet. one of the most gifited footballers we have had at our club in a long time enough said.
