I know it’s only a practice game in Feb - and these 2 boys only got a glimpse in the last quarter - but I reckon McCabe could have jumped ahead of Ramsden and Scaife as a fill-in tall forward. He showed his class. I didn’t realise he was such a smooth mover.

And my first look at Noah Mraz. Bloody impressive. I can see why the track watchers have been quietly raving about him.
Yeah McCabe has some proper talent.

If he can show a bit early at BH I can see him coming in and playing well like Dear did last year

Like Dear he will get good service which is great for a young fwd.

The “highlights” package that the AFL deliver to the HFC who then subsequently post to their social media is completely underwhelming.

You’d think we could at least cut some of our own players bits an pieces into a 3 min clip rather than just a handful of goals, and most of Geelong’s which none of us care for.

I know right? I was so confused why I saw a Geelong goal as the first highlight then turned it off immediately

Almost as good as the 2018 final v Richmond highlight package where I think we actually got 1 goal or something insane in the entire thing

Chol's role up forward is to bring the ball to ground for the smalls. I thought he did an excellent job of that until he attempted a hanger and landed awkwardly which took the wind out of his sails.

This is fundamentally the problem though. If his role is "bringing to ground" then the oppo plan for that too and will keep numbers on the ground to also sweep up.

Not having a go at chol. He is playing to his capabilities which is fantastic, but it does underly why we need a genuine KPF who is a marking threat. If we have that, oppo will have to send an extra body to contest which opens up the space for wiz and others to get to work.

Where do we see Finn Maginness playing? He's a workhorse but he lacks polish. Wins the ball then turns it over or hands it off to players under the pump. Not sure he has the upside of others and he's not in my best 22.

Ironically he was the one player not providing turnovers in the first quarter

Also, no one has the role of "bring it to the ground." The role is "mark it or bring it to ground."

Chol is very good at making leaping contests and unexpected contests, ie, coming into the picture when he's unexpected. And very pleasantly good at defensive pressure. He's not so good at clunking marks (and frustratingly drops some sitters). He's a great #2 tall. The man you can't ignore or he'll disrupt your plans. He's not the #1 we need, the guy who can clunk a mark despite your best efforts. That can own the drop zone no matter how hard you push him around.

My frustration with Chol is that he isn't what he isn't. A #1. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate he's a great #2. But you need a #1 to make that #2 properly effective.

Anyways, a dead horse has been beaten to death again.

He can play forward, mid or tag. Is a very handy player to have on hand for a number of jobs. Has yet to play 50 games, get him there and we may see him go to another level.

Has ruck skills. If marking in f50 is eluding him, the spill has to be more to our guys advantage

There was a foto in the Sun today of him getting a forearm across his throat, caption remarked: "no free kick".
He was there, he will get his chance to shine, it was a practice match at Handbag Park, for goodness sake!
Be honest he went at half pace the whole time on the park.

Two more promising highlights from McCabe... two marks a bit out of position showing strong hands. I'm excited to watch his growth this year.

Unfortunately on the other side, Cats looks like they've found a very good one in O'Sullivan. One I know we wanted in that draft as well.
If we had got Sullivan, that means no Watson.

I am fine with how it all worked out

We tried to get both.

But it would have meant no Barrass.
