I have only seen snippets but wondering what the consensus on Seamus Mitchell was in the end? The match day thread suggested he was horrible yet the Herald Sun match report said he was one of our best, particularly his run out of defence and his kicking.

I’ve only watched the first half, he and Finn contributed to a few turnovers leading to Cats goals.

Difficult to find the silver lining from my lounge chair for Shammy.

Finn on the other hand crumbed beautifully when up forward.

Ginni looking like he is in for a dog of a day, seems to be racking up the km’s but not getting the reward.

Shammy had a poor game.
Ginni did not get a touch.

1st sim game of the year. As said before good hitout with the mifldfield being the standout for the day.

Will Day set to explode to top 10 player in the comp... was elite today.

Finn and Morrison both are solid players now. Important to depth and providing options for the side.

Many to come back prior to playing the Swine in Round 0.

Generally he was fine but his poor moments were obvious as they were direct turnovers and goals against.

He’s shown he can play much better and without those types of mistakes. Seems a bit down on confidence at the moment but he can work through it.

I must have missed Finn’s turnovers, might rewatch.
Shammy skills were lacking / rusty early on, but the positive is that he had a lot of it and got better as the game went on.
It’s only a practice match after all.

Were only short ATM because Lewis and Dear aren't in the Forward line. Full strength best 22 we have all bases covered. Lewis should play further up the ground which will allow him to create the contest down the line every week. Even someone like Battle or Weddle can push up to a wing too. We couldn't do that today because Barrass wasn't there to anchor and goal keep 30m out from goal.

Spot on those issues are only temporary but we need to win without both in the first part of the season and set-up our run.

TB will be a massive help and set it all up. We have a pleathea of options it just looked like a few guys blowing out the cobwebs today.

When Chol goes into the ruck it would be the time to move one forward. We will be super dangerous.

Really didn’t think the game was that bad ?

Was like 2 point margin with 6 mins to go and 4 or so best 22 missing. Felt like the mids are ready to go, Newk looks so good at the moment.

Saw a few things from Mraz, McCabe, B.McDonald, Hustwaite at times. Serong early was good too. Our development seems in good areas at the moment, there’s really not many on the list we aren’t getting something out of.

Today was a really good hit out for the boys against quality opposition. Reckon there was a crowd of about 3k there to watch the proceedings. We started slowly but really worked into our gears before resting players and experimenting with different set ups, which is what a match practice is for.
  • Really liked the way Blake Hardwick threw his body around up forward today - had some really good moments and helped set up scoring opportunities.
  • Day was absolutely scintillating - with a full preseason under his belt for the first time in his career, he looks ready to dominate.
  • Mackenzie just oozes class - makes the difficult look easy and will only get better.
  • Newcombe and Worpel were both excellent in the middle and look primed for a big 2025.
  • Chol attacked the contests and scored his two goals - wasn’t easy with him with the lack of tall support in the first half, especially when Geelong played a spare back.
  • Battle complements the backline so well - reads the play and knows where to be, while his kicking off both feet is terrific.
  • Harry Morrison worked well on his wing and was often playing on Jeremy Cameron - H looked assured with the ball in hand and kicked a goal.
  • Gunners picking the ball off the ground at full speed showed that his back is cherry ripe and his directing of the forward line was definitely beneficial.
  • Loved seeing Frosty back out there - he attacked every contest with purpose and determination and was safe with the ball in hand. During the first quarter he was having a chat with Weddle about positioning and you can see how valuable he is to the team.
  • Nash’s kicking inside 50 was to dangerous areas and he tried to give the forwards the best opportunity to mark or create a contest.
Will be fascinating to see who we roll out next week against the Bulldogs. UTAS will suit the game plan better and we will get a real good look at the coaching groups thinking for round one.
So many positives to come out of the game, especially when you consider our last few trips to the Cattery have been thumpings. All looks to be on the right track for us this year.

Yea i gotta say all the depth players offered something when they come on.

I liked B-Mac and McCabe.
HH was super quick and clean as well.

Well he wasn’t getting that from me.

I, and some others, haven’t accused you though. You happened to post a more eloquent point in the region of someone saying ‘oh Chol can’t even kick them from easy positions’ - yeah he missed a shot - he’s not Crusoe on that one.

Again, there’s no need to defend yourself - I’m talking about a persistent theme from some posters over Chol’s time on the list.

Like the rest of the team, Mitchell got better as the game went on. By the end of the game I seen flashes of his best from 2023.

That’s great to hear. It’ll be a tough backline to break into this year, but if he can give us a bit of that 23 form and build from there, I’d love to see him push selection.

That 2 point margin was in our favour.

The work experience geelong supporting waterboy running the televisions scoreline kept forgetting Hawthorn behinds (3 of them) and gave a geelong kick (called out on the full ) a behind. Apparently the score at the ground itself was accurate.

Some takeaways, Jeremy Cameron is an idiot. He squashes the ball to flatten out the points on the end to make sure drop punts have a larger margin for error. And then kicks it around the corner.

The commentator Ben whatshisface thinks receiving a handball is crumbing.

Nash does so much off the ball that benefits hawthorn.

Bringing in half the outs would have resulted in a 5 goal swing our way.

Looked a good hit out to me

Very good opponant away , some breathtaking passages of play, some very good personal coming back in and some experimentation.
Oh and looks like no injuries .

Reckon both sides will be pretty happy how it played out .

At least 7 best 22 out: Lewis Dear Barass Amon Impey Dambrosio Watson.

It was noticeable how much size we have added this year, I know it will come down as the season starts but it’s good to see we aren’t losing on conditioning.

Ginny may have been slightly top heavy compared to previous years but it will pay huge dividends as we go late into September.
