It was a free agent drafting wasn't it? Melbourne chose not to match it because potato

He was just the most recent potato to come to mind at the time of posting :)

Then there was the Jack Anthony drafting? Gumbleton? D Pearce? to name a few more

You did have an epic win getting rid of Mayne for a stupidly high pick before this season though... something definitely dodgy about that one!
yes... I still wonder how we got pick 23 as a mayne compo pick. Personally that was a stroke of genius. Would of been happy to get pick 85 for him. Happy to get brad hill for mayne.

Danyle pearce is serviceable. Unlike Jack Anthony and Gumbleton

So pretty much, we've been trying and having not much luck. In other words, you're ******ed to think Fremantle haven't been trying.

you were gifted both mcgoverns. you had ex players pleading with chris bond to take them, especially with jeremy

what happened there?

Yeah but then they blew it in recruiting Bradley Hill who can be hidden in an all-time great side but will be cruelly exposed as the fraud he is in a sub-par team.....as we saw yesterday.

Your team was done in by the previous wooden spooners. :$

I'm loving the Saints fans continual obsession with Ross Lyon....actually highly amuses me but given the Saints efforts on the weekend, how long before they sack Richardson?

Freo fans are actually starting to sound bitter about Ross much like Saints fans

Maybe you should hug and join together

Freo don't have any significant injuries this year (apart from Bennell with his calf*) and they still played like shit yesterday.

Freo supporters just need to get used to the fact that their team isn't very good anymore and is being coached by a bloke with an out of date gameplan.
Irony of ironies, Ross Lyon's gameplan has been rendered obsolete by congestion. I'll explain.

Once upon a time St.Kilda & Freo in his heydey would outwork their opponents to create congestion around the ball which their opposition, especially shit teams, were incapable of dealing with.
Now that level of congestion has become the norm thanks to teams rotating more players through the midfield & players covering more km/s in general - so every team is drilled to expect it, and every team's gameplan factors it into account. Put simply, Ross is a one-trick-pony who's teams have won games through manic pressure that every team now brings.

To turn his fortunes around he would need to re-invent himself, an unlikely prospect given he never had many original ideas to begin with and doesn't seem terribly adaptable. Unfortunately like Malthouse I can see him coaching Freo and probably another club for years yet thanks to the reputation he's cultivated. People are easily fooled.

I'm glad that we can help prevent you from becoming horribly depressed this season.

Saints desperately want Ross back after losing to Melbin. 64% win ratio!

Nah we still looked better than Freo did against Geelong, well for the first quarter anyway.

Concerning, definitely wanting Ross back for sure for the 2nd to 4th quarters.

he was open about the need the change to adapt to modern football at the end of 2015. he highlighted that he needed to release some control to his assistants and to become a more "managerial coach" like those who are successful now. he highlighted he had to abandon his defensive game plan, built on stoppages, tagging etc. and that he had to deliver a game plan built more on attack, quick short disposal that cuts through zones. he highlighted he had to develop the kids and bring through the next generation.

that lasted less than 12 months. by the 3/4 mark of last season he conceded it did not work. he blamed himself saying he did not get the football dept right. he said he would be reverting back to what "worked". he would be taking more control. he would be going back to the defencive game plan. he would not be "gifting" games to the kids. he would be harder on the players.

i am surprised this wasnt a bigger talking point than it was. it was absolutely damning. essentially he confirmed that he was not able to adapt to the modern game. he could not change.

i cant see this season being much better than last tbh. i think freo fans will start to realise the situation they are in with him by the mid way mark of this season. but action will not happen until next season when it finally becomes too much. he will not see out his contract that is till the end of 2020. i think he will be sacked in 2018, they will pay out the last 2 years of his contract. freo will replace him with a coach that can see through a full rebuild of the list. a coach who can develop the players AND assistant coaches

the worrying thing for me if i was a freo fan is that the two biggest issues they have are confidence in its players and their overall skill/disposal. i think you would be hard pressed to find a freo fan that does not raise their skill and disposal are one of the major issues. yet after the round 1 loss ross states that skill is not something theyre working on and its a non issue. then you have pav during the game day commentary stating its not something they work on

i mean how in the hell is that escaping scrutiny by their supporters? there would not be another team in the land that does not work on their disposal and skill. its literally one of the most important aspects of modern football. hawthorn literally won 3 flags in a row from superior disposal that allowed them to cut through the zones that were developed between 2008-2012

ross just cant see past the game plan he was given by leigh tudor in the offseason of 2009 that was a new and improved version of clarkos cluster in 2008

blah blah souless franchise.....blah blah culture blah blah. You clowns just keep trotting out the same crap.... and it's still boring.

Of course St Kilda have never in it's history changed anything. The logo, branding, jumper, etc is all completely identical to the formation teams.

In fact you clowns have had no less than 10 jumper changes, have changed your logo, and only adopted your song in the 60s after your players could no longer bear the embarrassment of singing " we do like to be beside the sea side" any longer.

As for stealing a coach....St Kilda are so poorly managed they couldn't get a deal done in months that Freo got done in days. Perhaps if your management wasn't completely incompetent then your coach wouldn't have had to walk out.

Some random Saint Kilda flog pontificating about culture is truly lolsworthy.....We've got a long way to go before we are in the same galaxy of shitfullness as the Saints........you know, one Premiership every 115 odd years.

Face it, your post shows how little you know about the pathetic, embarrassing history of your own club....Might be an idea to get a clue before you come out to play with the big boys. ;)

The funniest thing about this post is that you allude to the fact that Freo are a "big boy"

Hahahaha

A big boy with an empty trophy cabinet, the shittest Most expensive coach in the AFL and a history of spudding up drafts and trades that sees them unparalleled in that deptartment.

Sunday showed us that if relegation existed, Freo would be a wafl club by round 17.

I love that you effectively swapped Mayne for Kersten!

Lollollollollol

That's almost as bad as the Whorks swapping a genius Mitchell for a slow shit one that couldn't get a game at the swans 2 years ago.
