Toby Greene has to be the luckiest player getting around. Earlier in the year becomes the only player to have a punch to a players nose downgraded from a strike to misconduct, now delivers action that saw SJ miss games a few times classed as not enough force.

After watching a few games it looks like this to me. GWS and Richmond have been selected for the big dance this year. Richmond are being looked after by the umps, can't believe how many time Martin gets away with incorrect disposal. The AFL has been going down a very dark hole the last few years. They may want Adelaide because of the investment they put in there but they need GWS now with Sydney dropping off and some sort of deal has been done with Richmond. It is all business promotion, francises and tv rights. Our game has become like any product to be sold.

If geelong get anywhere this year it will be against the wishes of the AFL. It will be a massive effort. Well that is my rant but if you look back you will find that I predicted in the later half of the year that the Bulldogs would win due to the need to show that equalisation works. For me the AFL is damaging our game and are using the umps and MRP to help with equalisation.

The umpire in most cases has a split second to interpret if there was prior opportunity and then incorrect disposal. Not saying it's right by any stretch but may explain why they let play to go on.

The interpretation seems much more lax this year is all

That could be where they're umpiring under direction to let the game flow. Looked as though they were interpreting the Saints players had no prior opportunity on Sunday.

Don't mind them letting the game flow, but it's frustrating when they suddenly decide to pick one at random

An example was when the ball was 40 mtrs from Rich goal and the ump just let the scramble for the ball go on and on until he gave a free to Rich. Number 3 ump must be a Richmond supporter, he also would not penalise Martin for incorrect disposal.

I blame the AFL. They have been seduced by the dollars and have forgotten the supporters. If they continue to help the interstae clubs it will kill the supporter base in Melb which is what the whole comp is built on.

I was flabbergasted last night when a Tiger initiated front on contact, with his back to the ball, as a Demon attempted the mark. Not only was it high, but the ump awarded a free kick to the Tiger. Wtf??

It's funny though. Everyone presumed Selwood received a free kick for Smith whacking into him (3rd head high free in 1/4). Watching the replay, he was clearly taken high by the Saints player. Crowd started booing Selwood thereafter.

Sometimes it comes back to interpretation even watching it on telly.

I agree. I also understand and support the notion that a business should do what it can to grow and be strong but this more than a business, it is built on loyalty, support and passion.

The AFL have made supporters pay more for less over the last 10 years and if they continue the next generation will see Footy as just another entertainment like a movie. They won't pay to watch every game or follow a team, they will just take what is available because it will all end up being the same....equalised.
