Burton had another good day today looking good for the rising star, out of contract at year end might be a bidding war with the power

Doubt the Hawks will have many issues keeping him $ wise, especially if they lose Hodge, Gibson, Burgoyne etc.

Ins: Dusty or Rocky for our first rounder
Outs: B Crouch for a first rounder

Doesnt have to be a direct swap, but that would also work.

Fair?

Why are we trading Brad Crouch? Give the guy a chance.

I haven't written him off yet, but I am looking at our midfield as the main weakness and something has to be done. He is on $600k/yr. If we want to bring in a Dusty, Rocky or Fyfe we will need to make room and I would sacrifice Brad to give Sloane at least one other player on his level. I wouldnt do it for Gibbs mind you.

Christ. You don't trade Brad Crouch. We want to get BETTER.

Especially to trade in a free agent!

A restricted free agent will still cost a first round pick. You cant have a $1m player without making room for him with big decisions. If you are going to make room for a big RFA then its better to make room in the midfield rather than cannibalizing from the forward line or the back line. Brad is on $600k/yr and, according to some, may have a clause that takes that to $720k/yr. Its not a stretch to find room for a top level player if you take that out of the equation.

The problem with Brad is that he cant play anywhere else. So if you have as your first choice (for example) Sloane, Martin, M. Crouch, where do you play Brad? You cant rotate players purely off the bench anymore.

Our trading history suggests that we can't/won't nail a big target, but will go looking for guys at the fringe of the 22 on teams. If we're looking for cheap depth, guys like Jack Trengove, Tyson Goldsack and Ryan Schoenmakers are available, though none of them really make you get all that excited.

Surely those figures are incorrect. Brad Crouch should be on nowhere near $600kpa

A DESIRE to repay the faith Adelaide has shown in him and the chance to share in premiership success led gun midfielder Brad Crouch to re-sign for the next four years with the Crows.

The 22-year-old ended months of speculation on Friday when he put pen to paper on a contract extension with the Crows that ties him to the club until the end of 2020.

The deal is believed to be worth up to $2.4 million over the four years.

Oh dear.

Cost of doing business unfortunately, especially if Kornes was right about North being interested, with them throwing mass amounts of cash at any decent midfielder.

He should be on no more than $500k. He's probably getting more than Betts at that price!

Probably not, but if you want to keep a guy, sometimes you gotta pay unfortunately. Same as it'll be with Lever and McGovern.

If he can get back to his best it's an OK deal, but we hardly had the midfield depth to be playing tough on him. Was a guy that had to be kept.

This article says $2.2 over 4:

So does this one:

All three interestingly say 'around' 2.2-2.4 so none are 100% accurate, where is the $720k coming from? the extra % from the CBA? Regardless we need to make our midfield better, not sacrifice what we already have. Brad is only 45 games into his career, he is no where near a finished product.

1st, Why are you giving away 1st for a free agent
2nd, you don't trade a 50 game gun just finding his feet for a speculation

You can't?

I would have thought there are plenty of mids that do just that.

And BTW Brad played a lot of absolutely dominant football off half back as a junior.

like Betts cost us a 1st...oh wait. In fact I think the only "free agent" trade to net anything is us for Voldemort.

$550k/yr or $600k/yr. The point still remains the same. Yes, the 20% increase is what some posters here believe. I have no idea on this one.

1st, Why are you giving away 1st for a free agent

They will be restricted free agents. I am pretty sure, all will cost a first, otherwise the holding club may match it. The player is unlikely to want to risk going to the draft and end up anywhere.

2nd - you have to sacrifice something that you dont want to give up if you want to bring in a $1m+ player. The AFL rules make sure that you have to spend a minimum amount of your TPP, so there wont be much available. If you could keep everybody and bring in a Dusty or Rocky, then how are you going to manage that on game day? You have your centre, ruck and ruck rover taken. Brad would be your 4th mid. Where else are you going to play him for the majority of the game when your first choice 3 players are on? He is the obvious player to make way in my opinion because he has a big wage and he doesnt play multiple positions.

You can't?

I would have thought there are plenty of mids that do just that.

Which 4th string mid does that? I am not saying give up Brad and take that pick to the draft. I am saying IF we can bring in a Dusty, Rocky or Fyfe. If that happens Brad would be the 4th string currently occupied by Douglas/Hampton. Douglas can play multiple positions. Hampton is supposed to be able to play half back. Not convinced he can yet.

And BTW Brad played a lot of absolutely dominant football off half back as a junior.

So why isnt he doing that for us. We could have used an extra dominant half back in the last 2 weeks. Brad may be a very good player one day, but IF we can attract Martin, Rockliff or Fyfe to our club then I will accept losing Brad to make that possible.
