Straight FA's attract a huge price unfortunatly, for the fact you loose nothing, can we afford it and remember we arent the only ones getting the increase in salary cap every club gets it so its pointless saying we have extra coin
Not if their current club is happier with the compensation pick than losing the player... which is often the case with a player leaving a lower ranked club. E.g. Dees were fine with Frawley leaving.

And in the case of wooden spooners Brisbane this year. The wont be able to get him out the door fast enough. Picks 1&2 this year are on the cards.

Our first and Smith?

If we are going for Kelly we can't walk into negotiations thinking our best 22 are untouchable or that Mackay will flag interest ( I'd still offer him and pay most his salary). I know they have similar players for that role but a first round pick + an AA player may be enough to get the deal through and leave us with a first for something else if needed
I've had Smith flagged as trade currency for ages but I can't really see it happening at the AFC.

I don't think we even need the Geelong amendment, do we? I'm trying to recall the exact rule, but I think it just says that you have to use 2 1st round picks in a 4 year period, or something like that? Given we've already used 3 in the last 2 years (Gallucci last year, Milera and Doedee the year before), we should be able to trade this year's and next year's first without needing any special permission from the AFL.
My money is on that rule being scrapped on the eve of us lodging the paperwork.

Be patient ... gut feel says we will be right in it for the many years coming up as we play the long game (but any mistakes draft wise or coach wise will have a drastic effect on us).
I'm not against drafting but unless you're gws you wont assemble enough talent in time to win a flag.

My money is on us missing out on all of the star players, but getting a small win by trading a 2nd rounder for some 21 year old dude who hasn't yet quite put things together yet due to a combination of injuries and selection but we think he can come good in our system.

I agree. And it isnt limited to trading a player that GWS needs. It would most likely be a three way trade. If we are talking about Kelly then most of our players should be on the table. Exclude Sloane, Tex, Eddie, Talia and Laird and you would probably be willing to move anyone else. I wouldn't be entertaining Lever if he was willing to stay. But surely 2 firsts (this years and next) would be enough for Kelly. If Kelly nominates us then GWS have shown themselves to be reasonable. Most clubs don't behave like Carlton did. But unlike Gibbs, you would do what you had to do to get Kelly.

Probably more directed at the other 17 clubs all looking at a player with giving nothing away, who has the biggest balls and is prepared to take the biggest risk, not sure if we have that attitude

There's not a whole lot of players that GWS need, and a rebounding defender probably isn't one of them when they have Williams and Wilson.

The thing they probably need most is a small or tall lockdown defender, or a good small forward, but I'm not sure who I'd give up.

Maybe you'd hand over a guy like Charlie Cameron
Think you are right , there one weakness is forward line pressure

Cameron would be someone that makes their team and improves them straight up

Agree that smith is likely surplus with Williams Wilson and Shaw locked up in those roles

Problem is I'd hate to lose Cameron as betts likely to start being on decline soon and Cameron ideal guy coming through

Not many others on our list would make their side or improve them - Lever probably , Lynch plays a role they could help them then the obvious one is Cameron

I'd be pushing for 2 firsts ( as they are likely teen picks ) with Lynch and a 1st personally as next option

Neither of these likely to get it done though

Some of you really overrate Charlie Cameron, I don't think he at all walks into their matchday 22, for them he'd be a depth player that offers something different.

The only players they'd look at on our list and consider to be a definite upgrade and straight into the 22 are Betts and Sloane.

How about a deal with freo for mcgovern ... if mcgovern wants back home... mcgovern for a late first since freo looking to be making top 6... with our later first... for kelly... and they can get mackay for 100% free :)

Depends if they want to keep playing midfielders/half forwards as small forwards like Greene and Smith, or whether they want an actual small forward. He'd easily replace Stevie J once Stevie retires.

Not too long ago they were playing Rhys Palmer who is absolute shit

Except Charlie isn't really that good at being a small forward who kicks goals, and there are cheaper ways to get a pressure forward who isn't a major goal threat.

Talia would be a definite upgrade on every tall defender GWS has.

But beyond this, i'd agree. Their list is unsurprisingly stacked.

I think Sloane, Betts, Talia, Lever, and Laird would all be walk ins. Cameron, Lynch borderline.

Apart from the obvious, I don't see any similarities between Cameron and Betts. Cameron doesn't have his goal kicking, marking, freakish nature.

Yes Cameron gets goals but from using speed and space.

I think BJ is more likely to replace Betts than Cameron, as he's a way off yet.

You're forgetting we beat them by 65 points - they aren't the Harlem Globetrotters . They have weaknesses

It's documented that their forward half pressure especially I50 is poor

Cameron makes them much better in that regard . They also have luxury of playing him forward only and he can focus on his pressure because that's what they mainly need
