Terror in Manchester

The Right/Left mount sterile arguments if you read Samuel Huntington who wrote in the early/mid 90s that a challenge to the west from radical Islam would be the result of a looming unstoppable demographic explosion of young, fit, muscular Muslim youths of cannon fodder age - 16 to 30. From my memory, Huntington said the bulge would peak in the early 2030s and would abate thereafter.

It was instructive to remember this when observing the boatloads of young, fit, muscular Muslim youths arriving at Christmas Island at the invitation of Kevin Rudd and Labor back in 2009-13, and later the boatloads of same demographic arriving still today in Europe.

The thing is, I don't think there is much more that can be done that isn't being done already. It's a matter of resolve and continuous attrition until the jihadis supply of testosterone fodder fades 'away into history.

good to have you back GJ - the issue Wilson highlights is that Panahi offers no solutions

So are you saying the moderates and the terrorists have both important roles to play in the trauma based mind control we are receiving?
Among other things, yes.
The main point being that rather than mindless insanity, the leadership behind it know exactly what they're doing... and more importantly, know how to use who we are.

Still, it was a bit rambly...that's what happens when you don't sleep for 44 hours straight and decide it would be a good idea to post something on a forum.

23000 suspected/potential jihadis and authorities only have the manpower to monitor 3000 at a time.

security situation in UK/Europe is messed up :/

The scale of the jihadist challenge facing the police and security services was disclosed by Whitehall sources at the end of the week after criticism that multiple opportunities to stop the Manchester bomber had been missed.

About 3000 people from the total group are judged to pose a threat and are under investigation or active monitoring in 500 operations being run by police and intelligence services. The 20,000 others have featured in previous inquiries and are categorised as posing a “residual risk”.

The two terrorists who have struck in Britain this year — Salman Abedi, the Manchester bomber, and Khalid Masood, the Westminster killer — were in the pool of “former subjects of interest” and not now subject to any surveillance.

Anti-terrorism efforts came under renewed scrutiny when it emerged that Abedi, who murdered 22 people when he detonated a suicide bomb among crowds leaving a pop concert at Manchester Arena on Monday, had been a “former subject of interest” to the UK’s domestic intelligence agency MI5.

MI5’s capacity to investigate is limited to about 3,000 individuals at any one time. People are added to and removed from the group of “live” suspects depending on assessments of who poses the greatest risk.

When an investigation is closed, the people identified drop into a growing group whose risk is seen as reduced. Sources say that the pool of “former subjects of interest” has swollen to 20,000 during the years of Islamist threat since 2001.

There is concern that the intelligence agencies have been poor at detecting former subjects of interest who return to extremism.

The two men who murdered Fusilier Lee Rigby in 2013 had been known to the agencies but had dropped down the priority list and their continued adherence to violent extremism was missed.

That's worrying. Need to spend more time, effort and resources into boosting their capabilities instead of wasting them discussing blanket immigration bans and non-targeted retaliations.

The problem is that with so many suspects its inevitable that they'll fail. You basically need a team to monitor each person so they can only minimise the risk of attacks.

Its pretty much a repeat of the IRA or ETA without any hope of a political solution and those conflicts lasted decades.

“In early 2017 the FBI told MI5 that Abedi belonged to a North African terror gang based in Manchester, which was looking for a political target in this country," a security source told The Mail on Sunday.

“The information came from the interception of his communications by US federal agents, who had been investigating Abedi since the middle of 2016, and from information unearthed in Libya, where his family was linked to terrorist groups.

“Following this US tip-off, Abedi and other members of the gang were scrutinised by MI5. It was thought at the time that Abedi was planning to assassinate a political figure. But nothing came of this investigation and, tragically, he slipped down the pecking order of targets.”

Gold Blimey when I was in the trenches we didn't bloody cover our faces when we had to square up with the enemy.

Even I would scare the s**t out of this bloke if he put the dukes up at the local watering hole.
