Great crowd at Spotless, helps when the big Vic clubs go their with their fans giving a leg up. I think it comfortably exceeds their recent crowds at the same time slot against the Tiges and Pies so that surely passes as a terrific crowd.

Not a great crowd at Ethihad.

The Collingwood game at Spotless was notable for its lack of Collingwood fans according to many.

As a Sandgroper ( adopted) who visits Melbourne once or twice a year i love Etihad, better than the MCG for mine, whats weird is that i found many from WA agree with me.

A bit disappointing seemed but to a lot of Tiger still big sections vacant Maybe the Medalion Club?

prices for reserved seats were getting a very bad wrap pregame. my twitter feed was full of complaints about $60 pricing, and i suspect some assumed GA would be maxed so it wasn't worth risking getting slugged

agree with you! the majority of the people who complain about Etihad seem to be the locals, as its not the same as the MCG

Docklands just gets a bad wrap full stop.

Crowds of over 40k at Docklands seems to be getting rarer and rarer, even with two Melbourne teams playing OK.

'Away' crowds appear notably much smaller than at the MCG. This is probably due to pricing, perceived inability to access a decent seat, and no MCC?

It really is a fan unfriendly venue. Last year I went to an away game their against the Saints and had to pay $60 for a level 2 seat.. This was for a match between a reserves side and a side battling for a finals birth.. Still, supply and demand. If the GA was full tonight you'd be ropable. Just reinforces the Barriers many footy fans have for the venue.

Gone are the days when a reasonably mouth watering clash like tonight would draw 45,000 odd fans like in years past. 36,100 is a pretty poor crowd and you'd have to wonder about the stadiums brand, expensive seats and sense of exclusivity. Most crowds their these days are underwhelming when compared to years past.

What tonight shows is the AFL have some work to do to reinvigorate the image, inside of the stadium, brighten it up, make it more accessible inside and out, more cost effective and less restrictive for the fans.

Right now you sense there are too many barriers to entry for this venue. Given its location and it's proposition it should be working much better for everyone concerned.

Yep, Etihad is a good viewing ground even from the top level and the difference in view between levels 2 and 3 isn't worth the $40 extra that they charge.

its nuts. TBH I didnt go today (sick), but I admit I was wondering "what if...". My membership and my dads get us away GA entry, and I was planning on using it to take my 6 yo nephew to the game. have to admit i was wondering if i could get in with GA yesterday, because I can tell you right now I wasnt paying $120 to take my Dees supporting nephew to the footy :P

Same as MCG. Essendon were charging $75 for average seats Rnd 1.

$64 on level 1 and up to $80 on level 2, absolute joke!

Terrible crowd at Docklands, pretty flat all night too.
Tiges fans didn't come out in previous away etihad numbers and the North turn out wouldn't of been much other their 15000 that rocked up to the GC game earlier this year.
For what ever reason Both supporter bases were well down.

Those prices for a H&A match are just plain stupid
If the clubs and the AFL want to turn people off our game this is the quickest way to do it esp with wages stalled and the economy struggling.
Much easier to stay at home on the couch on a bitterly cold night and save your money.
Once fans stop going to matches they tend to not come back.
This will be a massive problem for the AFL if it keeps up and we dont want end up like the NRL and become just a TV game..

What should it be priced at?

What should it be priced at?

Thats the million dollar question

If (for example) north make more net profit selling one $80 level two ticket than they do two at $60, then the higher prices sacrificing attendance make sense. Norths job is to maximize revenue from the game, not fill the stadium so afl do a ripping trade on food and drink.

Clubs have to be smart about this however, because punters will only pay so much a premium

So what happened to the wonderful deals talked up once the AFL took it over???

36,000 for North Melbourne last night was decent, I thought. If it was against Collingwood or Essendon, 40-45k would've been a reasonable prediction. But it's not fair to expect Richmond to bring the same amount of away support as those clubs.
