MRP / Trib. Tom Hawkins "made an example of" - accepts 1 match suspension

You said it yourself......everyone was in notice, and I reject the idea he was some kind of bunny.

He was just the next to digress
Problem is this won't last. The MRP will eventually regress back to fines and insufficient force. As such he'll be the example and no one else will go for it.

Inconsistent adjudications annoy people more than soft suspensions.

As soon as it happened my first thought was 'he's gone'.
What happens after this really doesn't bother me, as long as those in charge are clear in their message
They couldn't have been any clearer here, now Hawk has to do the time
This is 100% on him

Hawkins is the only player to get done for it......must be a technique problem. More likely he has the wrong jumper on.....

Point missed.

Fremantle at Geelong the week after the Eagles.

We must challenge.

Will be interesting to see Scott's response on AFL360 tonight, given how strongly he felt about the incident post-match.

Yep, we'll beat Freo without Hawkins. The only risk is that he may not play for 4 weeks with the bye and we need him in good shape for the away game against GWS.

How stupid do you have to be to go out and jumper punch someone after the AFL said they were going to come down hard on jumper punches, and how stupid do you have to be to think Hawkins has been hard done by for getting a week for doing exactly that.

Point not missed at all.
Hawkins digressed, what happens after this is irrelavent.
If you're incapable of being unbiased that's your problem...,..there's plenty of people here who agree he got his fair whack.

Yawn. Who said he didn't. Said on page 1 it'd be a week on their chart.

So you can drop the unbiased shit champ. Some can see it was going to get a week but simultaneously comment he'll be the only one singled out.

So yeah, point missed pal.

But he wasn't the next to digress was he? Wouldn't that have been Cotchin?
Cotchin was the tipping point IMO, even the AFL boss wasn't happy he got off that so the next person to do it was always going to cop it

I have no issue with the week, but notice was given 2 weeks ago so that Sydney player should go and buy a Tattslotto ticket.

Champ, pal? Pretty hard words from a kid who is obsessed with Pokemon

Is there any other game in the world where the rules are allowed to change during the season?
Surely just showing footage of the Cotchin one would be enough to get him off.
Yeah but the MRP have mentioned before that they don't use precedence, which in itself is nonsense as surely it is a way of creating a uniform set of outcomes..

I like mid season rule changes. It's a long season. No need to wait 6 months if it can be implemented in a few days.

It's not like the change was " you can now throw the ball over someone's head, go catch it, and take a bounce".
I'd be completely fine if the afl came out and said. "Hey, you know that chopping of the arms thing? Well yeah, we are scrapping it because it's stupid". Defenders would adjust before a dog ate it's breakfast.

I don't have a problem with Hawk being suspended. It's just the fact that other players do the same thing, it's a fine. He does it and they make an example of him with a suspension. Then it reverts back to fines. Oh and this is a story from last year.

If other players are suspended from now on, which isn't what happened last year, then his suspension will be much easier to swallow this time. But right now, I doubt they will be. And that's more than a little frustrating.

That they don't take precedence into account is absolutely baffling.
