That speech shits all over Mark Neeld's one back when we got demolished in round 2 2013. He is truly inspiring! This guy could've just accepted what was going to happen to him and do nothing about it but he has gone out of his way to raise awareness to help other sufferers and potentially find a cure. What a legend Neale is!

Its an ok speech. What he's done is fantastic, and he's got my respect for sure.

But that speech makes no sense to me. I don't understand how he can compare what he's done with a game of footy and keep a straight face.

Yeah, i get it. Something about it just doesn't sit quite right with me for some reason.

Again, nothing but respect for him, and if doing anything on telly gets him more money for the cause i'll back him in.

I'm just thinking about what a great speaker and footy person he is, and that speech seemed out of character to me.

I don't have any problems with the speech. He's mainly in MND mode for the week, but he's also taken time out for something else he cares about - the MFC. I think his topic was relevant to us - how much do some players think about themselves and their own performance above the team ethic? I think that has been an issue for us over the past 5 years. Just because we are improving as a team, doesn't mean we can't stand to have that message emphasised.

I think he's talking about total buy-in to the cause. Pushing as hard as possible with your teammates to get to your goal. Some players are just career footballers - they aren't all motivated by premierships. A lot of them are pragmatic guys who make a good living from football. Some of them will retire before the club can win a flag. Different people have different levels of buy-in. But if you have too many guys like that in your team, they are essentially robbing the other guys in the team that desperately want that success. I think Neale's speech was speaking to that. Think about how important this is to most of your teammates. Don't be content with playing well yourself and winning the odd game. We have had such a shit club culture for so long, I think we still need reminders about what it's all about.

The analogy with his struggle with MND might have been a little stretched - but not massively so. Selflessness vs selfishness is a battle going on in most people every day. It's something everybody should think about occasionally. And having a goal that you're passionate about and 100% bought into, makes it easier to do the hard yards to get there.

I think it was a lot better than a lot of televised "motivational" speeches. Neeld's speech was inept. That one Sheedy gave where he kept exploding with random loud words was even worse. Neale's was on point, succinct, and married up with our club's association with the Fight-MND campaign. So, Neale's speech sits just fine with me.

I mean military men regularly give speeches that loosely compare war and footy. It's not so much what you say but how you leave the players feeling after it. They need to want to run through a brick wall after it, not necessarily be smarter people.

I don't think it's intended as a motivational speech (those things don't actually work no matter how inspiring the message/parallel is), it's a media production for the purpose of raising awareness for the cause and more funds. It's Neale's campaign and if that's how he wants to play it I don't see anything wrong with it.

Now the dogs are going to be paranoid about sticking up for their mate so if it makes the game physical we will play out our best

The Dogs are certainly focused on helping JJ out. Loving the media attention this is getting. There is going to be a fair bit of niggle on Sunday, that's for sure.

I'm only really replying to you here because I have replaced my iPad with the new 2017 version of the iPad Pro - and it arrived in a little parcel today with his keyboard and an Apple Pencil and everything. I'm super excited and I'm trying out the keyboard right now which is why I'm able to cram in even more random words apropos of nothing in particular.

What's really cool is that the Apple Pencil is really good for drawing and there is some really neat software out that I've started playing with for sketching and drawing random shit. I'm pretty excited. I've had a bit of a play with it. I need some practice and to work out all the stuff you can do with it.

So what are you on about? Macho stuff, getting physical, having a crack etc. Yeah that would be good.
