Melbourne are getting an easy run.

Tanking and draft rorting caused them to get some good picks which either ended up well for them or gave them some good trading assets.
I still can't believe they rorted the FA compensation pick system so that a solid but unspectacular player in James Frawley could gather them pick 3 (when Buddy, the best player in the comp and on a $9 million contract only gets the Hawks pick 19 and look where they are now...) and you combine that with the fact that Viney was a probable top 5 pick that resulted in Melbourne taking him in the 20'd they've effectively had two top 5 picks in recent years that they don't "deserve" which has resulted in two of their inside mids (Tyson and Viney).

It's just the way of the draft before they implemented the better points system - Heeney going pick 18 and allowing Sydney to keep the rest of their picks, and Daniher who would have been pick 2 or 3 going pick 10 to Essendon are just two examples - under the bidding system both clubs would have lost 2nd and 3rd round picks which didn't happen.

...but we're the problem. Where was Damo when we lost the free kicks were 22/13 vs Sydney? It's almost like the free kicks don't have to be even.

Maybe if the AFL didn't change the rules everytime someone breaks a leg or milks the clock we'd have a better standard of umpiring.

But there are a couple of differences between those other two games and ours:

1. Those other two games have got big home crowd advantages and so it's just taken that they'll get more free kicks
2. Those other two teams didn't win the premiership last year.
3. Those other 2 teams didn't win.

Bullshit reasons I know, but those are the main ones why they're not being discussed.

Number 2 is basically the one that matters. None of this free kick crap surfaced until after we won the flag. Go figure hey.

Damo hates us as a club. I'd be surprised if he genuinely believed what he was saying, the more realistic scenario here is that he's finding a way to attack us that he can reasonably defend as a form of being a journalist rather than just the vendetta he has.

And none of the commentators on Saturday noticed a problem until the free kick count was mentioned. Cos it's all about the numbers, people!!

Norf's (and Barrett's) reaction to the umpiring and Saturday night show all you need to know about them, and why they should be despised and held in contempt.

It's always - and I mean always - someone else's fault with Norf. They blame literally everyone and anyone else for whatever woes come their way.

Norf have been giving up match winning leads and failing in close games under that whiner Brad Scott for a good five years now and still they're doing it.

The free kick differential from Saturday is a result of their own players not being disciplined enough.

It's as simple as that. There is no umpiring conspiracy where they all meet in dark rooms and discuss ways in which they can favour the Western Bulldogs and screw over other teams.

I absolutely and utterly loathe Norf and their supporters for years and the past couple of days have just shown why.

Always the victim, always complaining, it's always someone else's fault.

The way they are getting behind Archer is quite Essendon/Hird like.

This umpire talk is ridiculous. The exact same thing happens here after a loss.

Glass houses and stones.

Hopefully this means I don't have to read all the stupid, ridiculous posts and down right sooking about umpires after our next loss.
Hang on, we don't do that.

No it doesn't. We've never used it as an outright reason for losing. The was some umpire talk about the 4th qtr against Geelong(justified), and Bont's treatment against Sydney was a joke. 3 free paid against him were blatantly incorrect. But neither of those were used as blanket reasons for losing.

Yes, yes we do.

Prove it. The way we handled the Freo, Melbourne and GWS losses in particular were better than a few other boards would have.
I don't have the time to go through all threads but I can tag you in posts from now on. The defending of umpiring I've done on this board over the last few weeks has been pretty strong.

Every supporter group has sooks that blame umpires. We are no better or worse than any other.

Fair enough. I just think our comments on umpires are at such a different level to other boards like Richmond, North or St kilda, that it's not even comparable. We don't go on the main board spouting conspiracy theories, or anything close to that.

Remember this is a dude who writes a column based entirely on hypotheticals every week ('if' your Aunty had bollocks 'then' she/he would be your uncle' and so on).

You would get more sense out of the crazy cat lady from The Simpsons than that piece of garbage.

Sydney, the 2016 flag is ours, we won it, you choked. So, in the immortal words of Daryl Kerrigan "Suffer in your jocks" and keep feasting on those sour grapes.

The Sydney and Geelong umpiring was an absolute farce which imo no doubt contributed to our defeats, but no issues with the other games we lost
