Oddly enough the 3.20pm Sunday attendance has a history of pretty good crowds (although that could be because the AFL / Channel 7 have effectively used it for high drawing games as a lead in to the news bulletin...)

It should not be confused with the 4.40pm Sunday timeslot which is an all together shit time slot.

The Rich v Haw game is a perfect storm. Richmond probably need a win to make the top 4, if Hawthorn win their odds for the finals go up dramatically. Given it's a member replacement game (the Geelong game a few weeks ago was not) I would be very disappointed if it didn't draw 70,000

I think 60000 is realistic, 70000 is hopeful. You have to remember the highest crowd ever between these too is about 63000 I'm pretty sure, or maybe it got beaten in 2015 with 66000? Either way, these 2 teams don't have a rivalry as such and think 60000 would be a pretty dam good crowd.

Sunday at 3.20 would be my fav time slot, doesn't interfere with anything else on the weekend, I get a sleep in Sunday and am still home at a reasonable time for the week ahead!

We also beat Richmond's turnout to Metricon this year V Gold Coast and we are near the bottom, you guys are top 4 and the weather at our game was atrocious.

Biggest club in the land blah blah blah.

47-50k at Etihad today, you'd think. Standing room will bump it up more than usual.
It will be a sell out.. 46,000. 5 years ago you could get 50,000 into a Bulldogs or Saints home game sellout. Now with membership and annual reserved seat holder growth aligned to these membership packages there are fewer seats available to the public on match day. Even more concerning is Essendon sell outs can only fit 43,000.

How timely the article in the HS today suggesting a bigger stadium is needed... As membership grows in the years ahead the effective capacity will shrink further.

The AFL will be encouraged to slot big games at their venue in future. It will also want to holder bigger concerts, eSports events etc. It can't do so effectively with a working capacity of 42-47,000 capacity. As Carlton move up the ladder and Essendon go ok on field ahead of their next stadium negotiation, the need for a larger stadium at Docklands has come. A stadium that can seat at least 55,000 means basically a 65-70,000 capacity is required.

Great interstate turnout by the Richmond fans tonight at Metricon. Felt like a Richmond home game. Suns do have a solid core of genuine fans though w

So long as the weather is decent it will be a record for Rich v Haw. 66k the current highest for these 2 in 2015

The Suns draw between 8-10,000 of their mob to their home games, the rest are the oppositions fans. Probably close to half the crowd Tigers last night despite the commentators saying it was a Tigers 'home' crowd. Tigers fans have lots to roar about so easy for the crowd to sound one way! Very good crowd there last night.

From the past 15 years, the only two fixtures in the second half of a year with the Blues down the bottom of the ladder:

Round 14 2006, Carlton (15th) v Geelong - 32,096
Round 21 2014, Carlton (13th) v Geelong - 38,812

That's pretty valid. Still I'm surprised their numbers against Geelong have been so low. I remember attending a few Carlton v Hawthorn Ethiad games around that time (specifically 2004 to 2010) where the lower / middling Blues packed out the stadium year after year

That's crazy talk, Hawkk. Why would their attendances improve in conjunction with their on-field performances!

My point was with respect to their attendances and membership. In 2002 / 2007 the Blues home and away attendance numbers were...

(1999 - 830,935 (4th out of 16))*
(2000 - 881,915 (3rd out of 16))*
(2001 - 859,415 (4th out of 16))*

2002 - 740,944 (6th out of 16)*
2003 - 728,963 (6th out of 16)*
2004 - 808,848 (4th out of 16)*
2005 - 821,546 (4th out of 16)
2006 - 813,538 (4th out of 16)
2007 - 864,753 (4th out of 16)

Compared too...

(2011 - 1,090,965 (3rd out of 17))
(2012 - 965,201 (3rd out of 18))
(2013 - 968,065 (4th out of 18))

2014 - 864,946 (4th out of 18)
2015 - 760,046 (6th out of 18)
2016 - 784,844 (6th out of 18)
2017 - 709,801 (4th out of 18)**

**Carlton are currently 5 people ahead of Hawthorn with Hawthorn playing Rich (MCG), NM (Tas), Carl (ES) and the W Bulldogs (ES) in the run home. Carlton playing Ess (MCG), WCE (Subiaco), Haw (ES) and Syd (SCG) in the run home.

*The years the Blues finished outside the top 4 for attendance in the early noughties coincided with Carlton playing 7/8 home games at Princes Park (they were still in the top 3 for membership amongst the Vic clubs).

Today Carlton are a middling club for membership (5 or 6) and play many more games at larger stadiums. Carlton really should be a top 3 club for membership and club support given their historic attendances, memberships and success

Agreed. As I said it would be strange if two Vic clubs (both with member access to the game) drew 52,181 and 58,721 to home games against Sydney (a quasi Vic club) in the same season and then struggled to draw 70,000 to an important game between the two clubs

I was there last night definitely more than half Tigers but that's just splitting hairs for the purpose of this discussion. Agree the Sun's normally have that 8-10K

All this points to a semi successful Suns team actually working.

Looking at 20k for a decent Suns team.

Agree. Weather permitting, it will draw 65k minimum, 70k+ a definite possibility. Both should be out in force. Huge game.

I think I saw dogs/Don's as 48,754 on the screen. Was great to be apart of.

Great crowd at Docklands, a disappointing 33,269 at the G. Really thought it would get around 5k more.

Atmosphere was electric, though. I'm completely drained.

terrible crowd at the g

Shocking turnout

You probably should check out Richmond's record against Adelaide before making that statement. Particularly those games played in almost identical circumstances.

*Cough* less than 20k *Cough*

In fact, today would've been the 4th highest home game against Adelaide ever for the "Biggest Club in the World"*

Boom!

I'm starting to think "Blaisee" is just a multi you've created to score the cheapest of points off

Also our last day game so reckon all junior members will be there (we take zero kids to night games and 4 - 6 for day games). Will easily set a new Tigers/Hawks record.

I was at that game. We got hailed on during the 2nd half. Get much hail at the G today? Apples to apples, and all that.

FWIW I'd be wrapped if the Tiges pulled 33k against Adelaide with little-no chance of finals
