Is the Stringer situation beyond repair?

  • The club clearly want him out the door.

  • This was just a shot across Jakes bow as a means of motivating him.

  • The club is clearly a rabble. Sack Macca!

  • This is just the first play in massive trade that we are not yet privy to.

  • This is a game of blink and Jake and Conners just blinked.

  • Its time to move on a negotiate the best deal we can.

  • I felt sad for Jake on that stage today.

  • We've warned you about creating polls Norm!

  • The Jack 'Armageddon option' Watts option

No...but he plays more like one than he does a key forward.

An inside mid encased in plaster and on mega doses of Valium.

I'm not sure about that, but Big Red plays more like Little Red. Is no threat when the ball is above shoulder height and doesn't intimidate defenders with his physical presence at all. Just for once I'd like to see Red get reported for something that's worth getting reported for. Red wouldn't intimidate my Grandmother.

If he could get to the odd contest that would be superb. But then again watching him waddle around aimlessly under a high ball before inevitabably getting outmarked is tough viewing.

Going on that, we should have kept Ayce and Minson because we are short on rucks
In fairness, we replaced them with Tim English, NMM and we tried rookie-ing Goetz so it's close to one for one.

I do think we could use another genuine KPF on the list or two - one mature ager, one kid if we can find one of each.

Agreed. Redpath looks like Tarzan, but plays like Jane.

Now that the AFL has said it's ok to kick people in the head, not softly push them. There's no excuse for him not to get the knees up, studs out and start cannoning into opponents. I wanna see him start hurting people.

This should be compulsory training for the entire list. Precedent has been set.... time to dish the pain. IF afl don't like it, players can always site this incident and cop a fine.

If you think Red is not intimidating I'd hate to see l what you think Boyd is. Boyd makes Red look like Plugger when it comes to crashing packs/defenders etc

Boyd is much more capable at halving contests in the air. Redpath struggles in contested situations and basically it's either hit him on the tit with a pass or he's going to be beaten.

A few Swannies still waking up with night terrors about Tommy 'big game monster' Boyd.

I'm convinced there are some people in here who have never seen redpath play.

He doesn't crash packs. He doesn't strike fear into defenders in terms of his size. He's Tory Dickson in a bigger body with less smarts.

Really like Schaz, if we don't get Lever reckon we should make a play with Webb and something, could come cheap.

Some of this discussion is extremely puzzling...

Despite his obvious foibles, Red averages the most marks per game in our team by quite a way and averages more contested marks per game than both our ruckmen and loses out to only Bont, Woody, and Grizz in this category. Roughead just last week was labelled an "elite contested mark" on here. Either we're setting the bar extremely low for Roughead or picking and choosing where to assess players harshly. Redpath literally almost doubles up our next best guy for marks i50 average.

I agree that in contests Redpath sometimes doesn't pass the eye test, but some seem to be sinking the boot in rather hard in here for a guy who is clearly quite useful as a 3rd forward in a good football side.

I would've thought the more obvious problem is our second forward in Stringer has fallen off a cliff, and we don't have a first forward. Given Redpath's two strengths (getting on the end of it inside 50, and kicking it straight from a set shot) are two of our biggest overall weaknesses, I'm not exactly keen to boot him out the door. If he had given us a token 15 or 16 games this year, he'd be our leading goalkicker.

I'm starting to think the term "rose coloured glasses" isn't big enough to explain peoples view of Redpath.

Yeah he can get on the end of a kick, and he's a reasonable straight line forward, but like someone said above he's a taller less skilled Tory Dickson.

He has limited scope for improvement, can only play one position, and is one knee injury away from retirement.

I'd say the club feel the same and hopefully have someone to step in, otherwise we'd give him 2 years.

In other news, I think I'm one of the few who would grab Matera for our 3rd if we think his attitude is passable

He plays full forward, opposition KPD's play on him, he is the size of a key forward, he takes marks inside 50, he is leading option around the ground, he takes contested marks (little down this year) - I'm seriously trying to figure out your logic on this one.
A key forward is more than height. They use their size to advantage, Redpath doesn't. He could be the size of Caleb Daniel and his game wouldn't change much (yes a bit hyperbolic).
I don't consider him a proper key forward for this reason.

Almost Impressive that Red has more contested marks than our rucks until you realise Red averages less than one contested mark per game (0.9 - lol)

You also neglected to mention Red's non existent defensive game.

Red's way of playing - lead, mark and kick and that's it - is diametrically opposed to our game style - fwd pressure and sloppy inside 50 delivery that misses leading targets and high balls.

I'm not saying kick him out the door. But I also wouldn't offer him anything beyond a one year contract. If that results in him leaving so be it.

Yeah we watch two different games every weekend. I've literally never seen Redpath crash a pack. Tom did it every week consistently.

Mark Jackson is still available, and I'm sure even at his age (and size) can kick straighter than anyone in our current side
More mobile than Red too

You mean like Tom Boyd ?

^^ this ^^

I love Red's story and having never met him, he seems like a legend of a bloke. BUT a pack crashing power forward Jack is not. Unless it's **** out on a lead he ain't catching it.

I see Boyd do one or two of those twice a year and get excited. Thank god he chose the prelim and GC as his cameos for 2016. I just think the camps on this forum re Red fall into those who blame Redpath and those who blame our a absolutely ****ing horrible delivery from anyone except bontempelli. If he goes to Carlton or Hawthorn and kicks a bag every week (or not) one of the camps will feel justified. If he stays I suspect we will never know
