If Geelong V GWS occurs there will be another MCG game that weekend - so no pressure to move that (potential) matchup for the sake of having an MCG final.

But of course Geelong-Richmond will be at MCG. Sure Geelong have been making a lot of noise publicly about all games in Geelong, but a lot of that is for media coverage/agenda setting. Their argument to AFL house has been essentially interstate opponents = Kardinia, Melbourne opponents = MCG.

Yeah makes sense to have 60k miss out on seats to play at a shit heap when the best stadium in the world is just sitting there with nothing on.

Geelong should play finals at there home ground against teams who don't draw well

Scenario:
Round 23. Geelong and Richmond battling for second spot, with loser coming third. No matter what happens, the first final will be at the G. What's the actual point of the round 23 game then? What's Geelongs motivation for winning a game where only Richmond would benefit from either outcome?
Geelong fans prefer a home final at their home ground, if they spend the whole year finishing in a spot higher than their opponent, then they should not have to cater to their opponents fans. It's up to their opponent to finish in a higher position and cater to their own fans.

Speaking of shit, 60k have been turning up to watch your festering turd of a side for the last 37 years so what's the difference if they miss out

Don't the Cowboys have a preseason game on?
How would both teams get to Dallas to play?

Sooky Geelong fans, they play home games at the G.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

#wereallyareeveryonesgrandfinal
We play home games at the G because Melbourne and Hawthorn sell home games. It's not because we want to. And after our last game, I'd say we're your grand final

Spotless has a capacity of at least 10,000 less than Kardinia Park yet GWS get to host finals there.

Spotless is considerably closer to the SCG than Kardinia Park is to the MCG.

The AFL have no integrity at all and the fact of the matter is if someone at our club even says a word about it out of line they'll be charged a minimum of $20,000

**** off AFL

GWS would probably have no chance to fill the SCG, so there's no particular financial loss to play finals away from Spotless unless they draw Sydney.

Geelong would probably fill the MCG if they're playing a Victorian team like Essendon or Richmond. If Richmond somehow lose today and they're due to play GWS, they should probably be given the final at KP.

MCG won't be filled v Richmond considering they barely get 45k crowds versus us in H&A. Unless the match gets a minimum 90k it's a dog move

Why do people act like Geelong is a suburb of Melbourne?

A final in Geelong would be worth millions to local businesses there. Why shouldn't the community that supports the team get to benefit from that team's success?

It effectively is these days.

Geelong wouldn't agree.

Football issues aside, we should support regional centers being developed rather than making everything Melb/Syd/Bris/Adel/Perth centric.

As per the rules, if you finish 1-2/5-6 you earn a home STATE final. It makes no sense to deny 65,000 people access to the game.
I am sorry - can you please quote these rules you are referring to? It makes a lot of sense if you are the team that earned the right to a home final, it only makes no sense to supporters of teams who haven't earned the right and who want a free leg up for their underachieving club.

Couldn't care less about your fans, I want my team to have the best possible advantage in their attempt to take a flag this year. Simple fact of the matter is that your team didn't earn its fans the right to seats, so you have to plead for handouts from the AFL instead. Good job.

They might not but the likes of Geelong Seymour. Baccush Marsh. Warragul and Drouin have effectly become satellite suburbs because the housing is cheap and access to the Melbourne is a simple V/Line train ride away.
Geelong to Melbourne is an hour on a train. Takes me just as long to get from Narre to the city.

Same for Etihad tenants? North or the Dogs wouldn't have heaps of 'motivation' under your hypothetical if they had Collingwood or Richmond as their opponents as it'd be MCG no matter what.

So?

I'm sure the people in Barwon Heads, Torquay, etc don't feel like they live in a suburb of Melbourne.

Nobody is arguing it is difficult for people to get to the MCG. So I'm not sure why you're debating that.

The MCG is a neutral ground, no one has it as their training base, its not like the game, if it occurs, will be forced to be played at Punt Road.

The game will definetly get 90k, It will be the only game in Melbourne and you get an extra week to sell tickets these days.

If you didn't play home games at the g already I would actually agree with Geelong supporters it should be at your home ground as it would be against any other interstate sides and bad luck for our supporters. But you do play home games at the g so that gives the afl the choice and it's going to be the g everytime it's just unlucky you play another team that has that as there home ground AS WELL.
