*where the result didn't benefit your team or you had money riding on it

Today's game felt a bit odd, it was almost like we were playing Melbourne, even if Adelaide probably didn't care if we or Melbourne got top 8. I bet Melbourne fans have seldom barracked so hard, but I'm not so much talking about that. Anyway, it made me think, what match, finals or otherwise, did you barrack for one team that wasn't your own the hardest?

For me it was last year's GF. Living here the Bulldog mania rubbed off on me, I bought into the fairytale, and really wanted them to break their drought. Really don't care for the Swans either. They're one of the Melbourne teams I don't mind so much, partly because I've made the scray my home. The prelim against GWS nearly as much.

Just behind that was the 2010 GF draw. I was aching for the Saints to win for the sake of their supporters and to break the drought. Can't imagine being a Saints supporter, you'd have to be a masochist!

Bulldogs / GWS Prelim last year. Watched the game in a pub with a bunch of mates. None of us are supporters, but the atmosphere of the game was intoxicating! The entire venue was shouting WOOF WOOF WOOF and waving their fists around after every goal, was a silly amount of fun.

Watched the game at home on tv with a mate who was a Bulldogs supporter, spent his whole life in Maidstone. I was cheering more loudly than he was, I think I wanted it more lol.

Agree was having a few beers with a couple mates whilst watching this and there were a few times when we thought it was over yet the Doggies found a way

Sydney v Brisbane Preliminary Final 2003. Really wanted to play the Swans rather than the Lions in the Grand Final that year.

In the end, the Lions dominated the final quarter courtesy of Martin Pike and won by 44 points.

That would count as benefiting your team lol.

The 2010 Grand Final, definitely. Was biting hard on my fingernails and cheering every St.Kilda tackle, mark and disposal.

I'll never forget those last few minutes;

- Goddard's unbelievable mark and goal.
- Macaffer finding space on the boundary, resulting in Cloke's goal to put the Pies in front.
- My heart momentarily sinking when Dawes' shot from 55m initially looked like it'd go through.
- To this day, I remain convinced that Milne pulled in short on that awkward-bouncing Hayes kick. Not surprising he left it to dribble through, though. He's the most gutless footballer of all time.
- Koschitzke should've marked that ball 30m out, directly in front with 20 odd seconds left. If he held onto it for just a split second more, it may have been paid.
- The final throw in > piece of play on the members' wing resulting in a stoppage, the siren blaring followed by a collective gasp ringing around the MCG.
- An unforgettable sense of emptiness washing over my body after the countdown clock on the scoreboard went back to 7 days. And what a strange week it was that followed.
- My sheer disappointment the following Saturday... Not just because Collingwood won the premiership, but the fact that St.Kilda really should have won that first Grand Final. They blew it, big time.

Haha you got me. I didn't read the OP :p

In answering the actual question, I think barracking for the Dogs against the Swans in last year's grand final mainly because of my brother who is a Doggies supporter.

I also remember going nuts when Malceski kicked the winner against the Hawks in the 2012 grand final.

Honestly, while I do rather some teams to win over others I generally don't support or cheer hard when it doesn't effect us. Relaxing casually watching what unfolds and have a laugh either way.

Geelong v Hawthorn PF in 2013. I still hold Varcoe responsible.
That would have got us extra time, not a win, and we were stuffed, hence the Hawks catching us.
Would have prolonged the agony.
