All teams just got a 2 million dollar war chest a few months ago so lions and Suns would easily be able to afford him, then trade a contracted player the next year for a profit. They would be insane not to snap him up.
He goes into the PSD with a million dollar one year contract as his demand. You get him, spend a million bucks on a player that never plays for you, and trade him the following year for MAYBE a late first.

Brisbane and Gold Coast are broke. If you think the AFL would let them do that (and all their staff are AFL men), then you're nuts.

Why would he never play?

All the while Lever wastes a year of his career. You think he'd want to risk that?

We actually hold the cards here. We have least to lose.

I don't think he actually gets paid if he refuses to play

Jenkins was recapping on 5AA how Pyke announced Govs re-signing to the players after a team meeting and the players went nuts, imagine how Lever would have been feeling then?
Pyke doesn't strike me as a man who does anything without thinking intently about it.

Love to be a fly on the wall and see lever's face

Also quotes from McGovern, great culture within the club including players, staff, best club in Australia, love being here ... quite pointed really

Yeah exactly. He could half ass it if he wanted to but that'd probably hurt his value to much in the long run. But refusing to play equals a breach of contract.

So you agree offer crap and we send him to the draft

As I said earlier sending him to the PSD is dependent on what we are offered. If we are offered crap then sending him to the PSD means all we lose by not trading is crap. Sure we lose what we would like to get. Some would say two first rounders but in reality we only lose crap.
