Jungle drums getting louder Lever to Melbourne - we need to ask for two first rounders given Melbourne's high position on the table. This would be my main preference.
Either that or one first round pick next year or one player. Do not want any more spuds like Gore.

I would not mind the hyphen Neal Bullen as one of the first choice players. He has some pace, is a SA boy and can kick a good goal. Would be a good addition to our side. Salem could be a possibility but Lebanese boy out of Melbourne does not sound good to me. Do not want Frost - too many brain fades. Happy to look at Brayshaw provided medically he is OK or Weideman - some Adelaide connection there.

Reasonable logic, but I couldn't see us going that far.

We will likely offer pick 10 + Sam Frost, who we traded pick 23 for three years ago. He would be a decent Lever replacement for you guys, and it would allow you to pick up a pretty high quality mid with pick 10.

Anyway, we'll see how it pans out. Good luck for September - rooting for you guys.

May as well give us a 2nd round pick instead of Frost

The assumption is that we need a Lever replacement however at present we are stacked for Defenders Talia, Hartigan, Doedee, Keath, Otten, Cheney and Himmelberg, not to mention Dear has played back this year in the sanfl

No to Neal-Bullen. Wouldn't be a lock to make our best 22.

The issue is we don't need Sam Frost.

Unless you are throwing a decent midfielder our way, we will take picks.

2x 1st rounders & we send a 2nd or 3rd rounder back with Lever.

Excellent ball-winner, tackles hard and is good in close. But yes, his kicking has regressed substantially which is disappointing. Was a silky left footer and kicked quite a few goals as a junior and in his first year with us, but doesn't hit targets with regularity now. Seems as his inside game improved, his outside game suffered dramatically.

Interesting. Based on that information I'd be interested in getting Dom Tyson in the deal for Lever. I'd far prefer him to Sam Frost, who has no value to us.

Pick 10 + Dom Tyson → Adelaide
Lever + Adelaide 2017 2nd round pick → Melbourne

It's only an empty threat if we don't mean it
Fair point. I guess rather than "empty" what I mean is:

- Of course the PSD is on the table right from the outset. Everyone around the trade table knows that is the nuclear option.
- I wouldn't pull the trigger on that "threat" unless and until the negotiations have stalled at an unreasonably low level. Which I don't think will happen.
- What might happen is that negotiations stall at an "OK, but not great" level (for us), at which time we have to decide whether to pull the PSD trigger - and as you say, it's an empty threat unless we mean it - unless we stand up from the table and don't blink.
- And if that trigger is pulled - I guess that's where my comments come in: How seriously would Collingwood, for example, take such a threat? Would they genuinely be concerned that Brisbane / Gold Coast / Freo would take him? Yes, they might be concerned about North or Carlton.

I just don't think the "if this trade doesn't work you're off to Brisbane, Jake" is something that makes sense as a "threat". IMO "if this trade doesn't work" he will end up at a Melbourne club, and on the $ that he wants.

I think the club is on a hiding to nothing here from the supporters, because - IMO - it is unlikely that we'll be able to do a deal that is a clear "Win" with a capital "W" for us. Just won't happen. And I don't think the club should go "stuff it, it's PSD for you" when there is a decent, if not outstanding, deal on offer. But a lot of supporters might think that.

Not a huge Don Tyson fan myself.

Tyson has been very disappointing this year

Melb, Dogs even Saints would be Ideal, as they will have to make a deal more so with Carlton, North and Collingwood all willing to pay the money he wants below them.
Melb, Dogs and Saints all equal 2 x 1st round picks. Even Collingwood heads that way. North, Hawks and Carlton and the bargaining power slightly decreases.

Oh I agree, but I think he has talent and would be better utilized in our system.

I also think we'll struggle massively to get more than a first round pick for Lever. I'd be happy to offload some (apparently in this draft) worthless second round picks to get Tyson here in addition to a first round pick, rather than accepting a 1st + 2nd for Lever.

Better yet, we'd avoid getting a typical selection of garbage steak knives like Sam Frost, Alex Neal-Bullen, Billy Stretch, Jack Trengove, etc.

If it's Hawthorn, they give up Burton. Pure and simple. Nothing comes free.

Unless you're Geelong.

We had the choice to draft Burton and chose not to at the back of medical advise.

He is doing brilliantly now but his talent has never been in question when ot comes to our club's evaluation of him. It has always been about longevity in the game. Will he be able to play 12 years of AFL football or will he be done by 26/27.

Salem is Greek?

EDIT: He's Lebanese according to Wikipedia.

I would rather get games into Pohoke

No, he can't walk to another club because he is not a UFA.

The only way he can get to another club is:

1. Via a trade - Adelaide and the club Lever have to agree to the terms of the trade and Lever have to agree to go to that club.
2. Via the draft - Lever can nominate for the ND or PSD (with a contract term and price on his head). Adelaide get nothing, but Lever runs the risk of ending up at Brisbane or GC.
3. As a delisting - If Adelaide were to delist Lever he becomes a UFA and can walk to free to another club. There is no chance of this happening.
So we should threaten 2 unless 1 is VERY good
