Not sure about that really. I know the recruit is just television, but malthouse was impressive on there imo. He was pretty measured and even philosophical/spiritual at times. Strikes me as a tough love type, but will be sure to explain why he has taken an approach and how he always has the players interest at heart.

Malthouse has notoriously good relationships with his players. It's half the reason the Collingwood list fell apart when he left - they all still wanted Malthouse as coach and weren't going to buy into Buckley for a second.

Well have you heard that Eddie Betts is apparently just about the most popular player of the year. I get that he seems a nice enough bloke off the field but his big me-me-me goal celebrations I find very off putting.

But didn't Malthouse actively ignore drug misuse and bad culture at both Weagles and Collingwood? Maybe that's why they loved him, they could do drugs and keep footballing.

He likely adopted the "don't care so long as you play good football" approach.

It worked with Heath Shaw and Didak for a long time.

THE AFL would have no issue in paying Tom Lynch to remain at Gold Coast as an ambassador on top of his salary, providing he extends his contract beyond 2018.
