Pick 3 and pick 35 for Kelly.

Pick 35 on traded from the crows for our pick 39

Stringer under Bolton would be a superstar.

There is no way we would get Kelly for that, he is worth 2 mid 1st rounders or a 1st and 2 2nds, as a starting point

Love Stringer as a player. the questions I have, what will he cost in terms of a trade and where is he at with his personal life

Watch this and picture a Carlton Guernsey on him

He's since developed hamstring and marital issues.

Gibbs is a premium midfielder who will generate almost as many scoring opportunities; Stringer is a lot of hard work, if he can make it back.

You don't pay that kind of currency for a project player.

You've still got a vanishing pick 35.

I don't rate Stringer anywhere near as highly as Gibbs, and the age gap doesn't make up for it.

Whilst not exactly the same players there are similarities in role IMO. Stringer V D. Menzel
Now the Menzel was dropped for last night match v richmond with their intense pressure on the ball carrier especially in their forward line. That trend was seen last year with the dogs. Stringer was dropped to send a message about his lack of defensive pressure and he was lucky to play in the GF.
my point is that is the way the game is heading- no player can be a passenger in a successful team. You simply cannot have stringer (or a menzel) in your side unless they are prepared to apply as much defensive pressure as everyone else.

Spot on, no matter the structure, everyone needs to apply pressure

I agree, but I don't see how his physical attributes correspond to that in a forward structure.

At a stoppage, I can see it, which is why I think whoever picks him needs to keep developing him as a midfielder, because I think he could be a machine around the clearances. His forward play is great, but in the right setup, he'll just present for the footy bursting away from the stoppage and slot a goal anyway, and can rotate into the forward line to rest.

70/30 midfield/forward split would make him a consistent match winner if he doesn't fall in a heap over his current circumstances.

Informed opinions are closer to the mark. Unfortunately we don't have many of them.

Informed without bias perhaps. Somewhere between our valuation of Gibbs and Dogs supporters valuation of Stringer.

Let me make this point straight off - I don't care if we get Stringer or not. He would be a very good get for us but not at a huge trade or financial cost.

Having said that, I think it's ******* amazing how people can keep attacking the young guy's character after he has endured a marriage breakdown and the loss of his children! How the **** would all of you heroes go if you were faced with the same situation at the same age?

Absolutely marvelously of course - wouldn't miss a beat cos you are SOOOOO unbreakable!!!!!
If he were missing home or had a drug problem everyone would make excuses as to how he came to be there - done it hard as a kid, blah, blah.

No matter where he plays his footy next year, I hope he returns to his best.

The ones taking pot shots at Stringer clearly show that they have been through sfa in their lives.

Get off your high horse and give the young man a break

Informed where some can actually gauge the risk of attaining Stringer.
We think we can (me included) but we simply don't have all the facts at hand.

If it is true that Stringer cracked it for some home-truths being told at his exit meeting, it doesn't make for a great look, nor an easy sell for The Dogs.
Who wants a player that can throw a clubs good-will into a spin?

Yep. Life is more emotional and break ups of families hit a lot harder when you're young too.

It's also sad to see people saying things like he's brought it on himself. Horrid thing to say about someone's personal life, of which they know next to nothing about.

As someone who has gone through broken relationships with kids involved AND suffered with the mental health fallout from that, I'm inclined to agree.

Many of us were down on Yarran, knowing he was grieving a broken relationship, until we found out just how bad his problems were.

Project player? He is a proven weapon.

What we would have to do is work out if we can get the best out of him. If Bolton and co decide yes, then Stringer for Gibbs is a big win.

We're showing interest in Lang from the Cats Devon Smith will be medically checked knee issues are a concern Gibbs will stay unless offer from Crows will benefit us and still looking out for couple of more assistant coaches

Thanks barass70 and perfect timing too as this thread was just heading away from actual footy discussion again .
Club have any interest in Stringer ?
If not we can put it to bed along with discussion of his personal life ...
