Think people need to put the PSD argument aside. It will never happen.

I think it's enough of an incentive for both clubs such that a deal almost always gets done, but yeah, it's rarely required. At the end of the day, it's not a good look as a club looking to attract players if you can't get the deal done, players don't want to risk the PSD. At the same time, clubs losing half decent players would rather something than nothing.

Interesting that a lot on this board think Doedee will be a good replacement. That being the case why don't Dees grab him? Quarter of the price and probs only cost late firstish. Just a thought.
I don't know really. I have just heard he's good, and he's in that position in the SANFL.
It would be pretty disappointing if he had yet another year he can't crack the team if he's supposedly a young gun.

Menzel looking good is a bit of a stretch apart from a few glimpses.
He's been pretty good in the last say, 5 games. Might be a bit optimistic...

While Lever, 21, wants to move to be home in Melbourne and to take advantage of his currency given his stellar season, it is understood the Crows initial "low-ball" offer to the no.14 pick in the 2014 draft did not do his chances of staying at Adelaide any good.

Whoops
Why whoops?

Probably the one true fact in that whole bunch of crap written by some no name Victorian journo is "when discussions with the star defender commenced earlier in 2017". There was an offer tabled "reportedly" lower than what Jakey boi and his "advisers" wanted, nothing unusual there, there has to be a starting point in all negotiations. I can't remember the last time I actually paid the "ticket" price on any large purchase and some of the discount for cash etc I've been able to wangle has been very, very considerable. Jakey boi is a very fine footballer of that there is absolutely no doubt but I also get the vibe he is far from the "humble" type of character.

There would be a second going back if it was two firsts.
And he is worth it. There is no KPD in this draft halfway as good as him.
Oscar Claravino has really stepped up late in the season with his intercept marking coming on in leaps and bounds which I can vouch for having seen him play live recently, SA kid Harrison Petty also highly impressive at the Championships and Noah Balta could be anything with his physique, athleticism and untapped potential. Brander another likely prospect and WA's Naughton also has plenty of interest.

the "whoops" is in case we pissed him off and he wanted to stay with us

it's looking less and less likely

I wouldn't drink the next year is awesome koolaid that the draft bunnies peddle most years too soon.

it's a way of talking about their great knowledge of draftees, without the scrutiny. always next year.
Hamish Ogilvie a draft bunny peddling Koolaid?

This from Jon Anderson's article in the Hun today quoting Hamish.
“We then started to think he could be in the mini-draft mix for the best four players in the country aged 17, of which Jaeger O’Meara was going to be one. “It was a little bit scary because Brad did break his leg twice in his 18-year-old year, but his best games in his 17-year-old year were outstanding and the jets all do that at that age.
“At one of the TAC Cup finals, Matty and I noticed Brad, who wasn’t playing, doing his extra running at the breaks in the game.
“It was pretty smart by his coach Phil Partington to say, ‘Hey, look at this kid, look how hard he works’.
“We just thought it showed his desire, so it was another clincher. If we couldn’t get Brad, we were out. We weren’t going to go for anybody else because the cost was pretty big.”

He wanted to stay with us until the Melbourne offer came along. Whether we pissed him off with our opening bid is irrelevant, he was off as soon as that offer came through.

Salem is a lovely kick and has pace but I still question his hardness. Where would he play in our team though Bicks? I just not sure he's too different from players we already have like Atkins.
You've got that around the wrong way.

There's nothing wrong with Salem's hardness, but he doesn't have pace.

If he doesn't has pace where do you play him?
Christian's schoolmate, football teammate and best mate growing up was Josh Kelly,, get Christian and then in 2 years time.......

“It’s fine. I’m not too fussed about it,” Salem told foxfooty.com.au.

“We’re best mates, we speak quite a bit, catch up whenever he’s in town and to be honest, we’ve never really brought it up.

“We don’t really care at all — we’re just here to play footy and enjoy ourselves and win games.

“So that’s what we both care about.”

Despite their closeness, Kelly and Salem have taken very different paths since their names were called out on draft night.

Also from that Salem article...

Salem’s delightful left foot has become a feature of Melbourne’s more refined game this year.
While the Demons have a collection of hard-nosed midfield bulls — and have so for some years now — Salem, along with recruits Michael Hibberd and Jordan Lewis, has provided a touch of class.
As a half back, Champion Data rates him above average — in the top 35 per cent for his position in the league — with the Demon averaging 22.1 disposals, 15.2 uncontested possessions and 350 metres gained per game this year.
But it’s Salem’s kicking that’s really stood out.
The defender has the second-highest kick rating (+8.1%) of the top 100 players for kicks this year — with only Scott Pendlebury (+11.3%) rated higher.

It’s a quality that’s made him a valuable asset to Simon Goodwin’s team — whether he’s playing as part of a back six or through the midfield mix.

He's played his best footy across half-back, but if he built up his tank he could also play an outside mid role in the Gaff mould. Gaff isn't quick, but his running patterns are very good and his ball use usually good. Salem wins contested footy far better than Gaff.

Salem reminds me a bit of Adem Yze in that he's silky, but he's harder than Yze.

The worst game he's ever played was against GWS late in the year, but I suspect it was an aberration on the back of an interrupted year.

I don't think Melbourne will trade him, as I know he's highly rated internally.

Is it that he doesnt have pace at all, or he doesnt have the tank so doesn't really attempt that many runs. I liked his season early, but I did see at least one game where he didn't turn up. It wasn't the GWS game it was about mid season.

Plenty of smoke out there that they will, Lever isn't just going to walk into your club. You want Lever you need to pony up.

Salem played 16 times for the Demons in 2017, averaging 21.4 disposals, 4.6 marks and 3.8 rebound 50s a game.

Wallace says the Crows could be part of the reason Salem’s name has popped up in the past 24 hours, believing they could be targeting the Demon as ready-made replacement for Brodie Smith, who will miss the majority of the 2018 season after rupturing his ACL last week.

“Sometimes you need to give something to get something,” the former coach said.

“Doesn’t he fit with Brodie Smith? I just think it’s bang, he goes straight into the structure of their side.

Nobody's ever claimed he had elite pace but he's not slow and plenty quick enough, would leave Lever in his dust. ;)
